Submitted by: fancylad 6 years ago Sports

Hmmm, we don"t know -- is this play cheap or brilliant? Your call, I-A-B.

@ OldOllie. it might be looked at as being to decieving, and thus rulled as an illegal play. i agree with you that it should be legal. i just know that when my brothers team tried a version of the "call your reciever to the sideline and then run" play, it was rulled to decieving and apparently it was a rule (they even looked it up after the game).

sweet play though, hopefully the TD counted

@patridiot

So you`re comparing a very basic form of defrauding and exploitation of an elderly person to middle school kids running an "out of the box" play. You might want to rethink your logic on this one.

Seems you would think it`s just as bad to upstage someone as it would be to commit a felony.

And if you want your kids to grow up in their own boxy world, be my guest, make room for the kids that are willing to push the envelope.

@patridiot: who said sports have to be ethical? Win at any cost is the name of the game...of life!

And that play was awesome.

I wouldn`t want my kid coached that way. Legal doesn`t make it ethical. It`s legal for a mechanic to charge an elderly person an extra $200 for $20 part, but it`s not ethical. Maybe it doesn`t bother you, but it bothers me.
nobody on IAB watches football? Illegal Formation, too many players on the line of scrimmage.
There is no such rule. There is a MINIMUM of 7 men on the offensive line, but you can have as many as 10 if you want. Only the 2 ends are eligible to catch a pass, though. There are no rules at all for how many men the defense can or must put on the line.
Well played, but totally illegal. If they got away with it, it`s only because youth refs might not know how to deal with it. It`s an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
So, what rule did it break? Fact is, that play is TOTALLY legal. As a matter of fact, that`s how they snapped the ball originally. The between-the-legs hike was invented later, but the rule never changed.

How was it illegal bridog6996? The snap was good and the "run" was good. Nothing was wrong with that unless he scored in the other teams zone.

Verrrrrry risky I`ll say.
If I was on the other team I wouldn`t tackle them, but block them from running. If they try to push past then you know there`s no problem with the play (plus the ref didn`t blow his whistle).

Tricking your opponent is a pretty major aspect in any playbook. I`m gonna say this play would work one time, but that might be all that`s needed.

Football version of the "barking dog" play in basketball.
I got no problem with it.

Cheap play in my opinion, tricking opposition into thinking there`s a problem goes against the spirit of competition.

Its called the "wrong ball" play and its totally legal to do!

that was clever, well executed, and it took steady nerves on the entire team to pull it off. All it would of taken is one guy on the opposing team to realize: "Hey there was no whistle" and the ploy is dead.

Wowowowow!!! That was soooooo awesome! Props to whoever came up with that idea and I gotta give the kid props on pulling it off so well!

He could have easily lost the football by holding it so loosely. Very nice :)

Brilliant. It can only work once, but still brilliant.

Brilliant. Reminds of the one where the quarterback just took the ball, walked to the side of the field and then ran. Whilst the other team looked on in horror. Middle School coaches must have so much free time

Sorry but they should have put his ass on the ground instead of standing there wondering why he was walking so calmly.

Fair game, doesn`t break any rules. Kid`s a superstar.
Very cheap, and not nice to take advantage of young kids (both tricking the defense and manipulating the offense)
Why is outperforming young kids intellectually (through a clever play) unacceptable but outperforming young kids physically (through the standard sporting measure of strongest/fastest wins) perfectly OK?

I saw an NFL play kind of like that. The QB was looking at the sidelines like he was having problems. He started walking that way and they snapped the ball directly to the running back, who ran it in. I love those sneaky plays like that.

Yes, that`s a legal snap. The center delivered the ball to the QB. The play is legal, and so funny that I watched it a couple of times.

@jakes230

The center handed the ball to the quarterback.
The quarterback carried it across the line of scrimmage.
It`s a live ball play.

Just because the offense was totally nonchalant doesn`t make the play illegal.
