Sad that the commenter got this completely correct:

"Clearly they don`t live in the US. Here they would have needed their winnings to pay the bills from the treatment for cancer."

If only others that had commented had even realized this before putting their own lives` problems and chastise them for even playing the lotto if "they didn`t need the money" (I`m talking about yahoo comments, not IAB).

What would I do if I had the money or if I saw them giving out?

If I had the money, I would first pay back everyone who I feel I owe something. Then I would get a decent sized house and invest wisely to make sure the money would last me (and hopefully a family in the future) for as long as possible.

If I saw them giving the money away, I would think "How nice of them."... then wish I had the money to go with plan A.

If I were one of their kids I`d still be pissed.

Why the hell would you be pissed if you were one of their kids? They got some money from them! More than what the parents kept for themselves.
I would be damn proud if those were MY parents.

To those who say they would be pissed if you were their kid: you would be an incredibly ungrateful child.

If these were MY parents, I`d be beyond proud of them. Why should *I* expect money from them when they`ve raised me, and supported me during my childhood? They owe me NOTHING.

@Gerry1of1: No. If you had read the article, which apparently you did not, you would have seen that it clearly stated "They took care of family first...".

In any case, It`s nice to see that not all people are selfish and greedy :)

why would their kids be pissed? it says they gave money to their family first, would you be pissed if a $500,000 mortgage just vanished over night and you now actually own your house?

If I had won this, and for some ungodly reason I just didn`t want it, I would split it evenly between my children before I would give it away.

Who`s gonna take care of me when I can`t take care of myself?

Altruism is a decidedly left-wing construct. Some call it socialism. Sorry Auburn, under your right-wing government, you and your kids would have been left to dissicate.

If I had won this. The first thing I`d do would be to put $52,000 on deposit in 20 separate banks. That would be $1,000 a week for the next 20 years using the interest for cost of living increase . Then I`d start to give it away.

@ Raiin-interesting pic, did u get the sh*t kicked out of you?

As for why they played, they played not expecting to win just out of habit...really though, it is very noble of them because I can imagine the headaches that come with winning that much money, family, friends, hanger ons etc.

I would give a lot away, but drat if I wouldn`t keep at least 100K for myself.

@Why did they play for it if they didn`t want it?

Maybe it was before her cancer? that`s all I can think of that makes sense, then if you survive cancer, well $1mill just doesn`t seem as valuable as your life, ya know? but it`s just speculation :)

I think it`s a great thing they did, and I wish more people were like that. Honestly but sadly, I admit that I would not be that charitable. I would give some money to things like a reputable cancer charity and the Salvation Army, but I would not be near as generous as that sweet old couple. So, more power to them and may God bless them. Now I am gonna go pray for her cancer to disapear.

Well I guess they are going to die so give it away. Shame it`s not going to help with the government and companies stealing it.
