i like the smooth slick and simple design of the macintosh but the programming is garbage, however windows is quite stable/customizable but the physical computers that run windows are ugly compared to mac

If you want a stable platform, you can`t beat this:

64K RAM
2 190K single-sided floppies
9" monochrome monitor
Best keyboard I`ve ever had
CP/M operating system
Included Wordstar, Calcstar, Datastar, and games

I used this for YEARS and it NEVER crashed. Not even once. It booted in 10 seconds, and to shut it down all you had to do was turn it off. It took less than 30 seconds to pack it up and you could carry off it like a suitcase.

"Oh - and Julesss? Learn something about programs like Adobe CS4, especially since it`s largest market are Mac users:

CS4 sticks it`s header line in everything you save after editing a file - even if you just crop it or drop the resolution to be internet friendly. Most programs that have editing features do this, such as all of MS-Office, Internet Webpage editors, etc.

I know all about the tagging: my point wasn`t that this image was worked on in Photoshop, but that it originated from a windows machine.

So *poof* to you...

Bleh my parents are "Mac" people for no reason. Their arguements for why Mac is so great make absolutely no sense, and they didn`t even know how to "right click" on a Mac until I had to show them. Plus, their computers don`t even work properly...sometimes you have to restart the mac 5 times before safari decides to actually open when you click on it. Rawr.

I heard it often enough (this was in 2002, not sure what kind of Mac) that I asked about it, and was told it did that when it crashed. I just searched for it and couldn`t find a reference online, maybe somebody else knows.

Also, @Lionheart2 (apologies for the double post)

I agree with you on so many levels. The only reason to choose one over the other is down to personal preference of the OS.

I am personally more comfortable doing my work in OS X so I got a Mac Pro to work on. I can see any number of reasons to buy a PC instead and to those who love their PCs, good for you guys!

"The fact is nearly all computer crashes are because the user mucked about with the system."

I`m tired of hearing this. It implies that the idiotic user has been fiddling around with things that they shouldn`t have been.

All computer crashes are caused because of human error, sure, computers just do what they are told and do it perfectly every time. But the human error is nearly always on the end of the person who wrote the software, that software being either the OS or some application installed onto the computer. I personally would classify installing software as "using my computer as intended" rather than "mucking about".

@DFWBrysco:

So someone took a screenshot on their Mac and transferred it over to Windows to crop it and post it online? :P

I actually think that this is genuine, myself, but I just like pointing out flaws in people`s arguments. XD

My `oh God not another one` reaction kicked in without really reading what you said as you intended it. Let me explain a bit further.

There`s nothing I hate more than a PC user knocking Macs without knowing the slightest thing about them, OR an Apple Fanboy singing the praises of his idol. I started on a PDP11/34, then personally had a ZX80, VIC20, C64, Microbee, PCXT, TRS80/3, numerous Macs and PCS.

I`m a 25 year graphic designer, programmer, teacher, and a pooload of other things. I currently have 4 computers on the main desk, 2 Macs and 2 PC`s, with a custom-built KVM. I work my comps hard, and I know, like any advanced user should, that there is absolutely NO difference between them. The software, including OS`s, is just a shell for the underlying ASL. When I see people say this one is better than that, it frustrates me like nothing else, because its like saying one banana is better than another.

My apologies.

Maybe you shouldn`t get so defensive, and make sure what you type is also correct.

The X in OSX is primarily due to its being the 10th iteration of the OS. OSX isn`t unix, it`s in the unix family. It`s closer to UNIX than any other standard, but it`s certainly not UNIX. The OS, OSX, as it sits, is not as customizable as windows or linux. I`d love to see evidence proving me wrong, but I never have.

Also, I never said that Apple computers can`t run windows; why you assumed I meant that, I have no idea. I`m saying I hate OSX`s gui. I dislike how OSX is so locked-down. I also stated that we shouldn`t bandwagon on which OS is best, speaking that they all have their pros and cons.

And lol at a moderator insulting a poster. I`m an ignorant "dick," yet you assume I`ve insulted Apple products by noting how they are not flawless.
I also said that no OS is flawless. Such is the internet.

It is a simple fact of life - there are some things that a Mac is better than a Windows PC at AND vice-versa.

Because of the relatively low overhead and advanced graphics engine of Mac, it is wonderful for graphics related applications (graphic design, digital video, etc.) and processor intensive needs, such as subjugating gas chromatography instruments. Specialized needs, sure - but then that`s what Apple has built it`s reputation and niche on.

Windows on the other hand, have a tendency to be infinitely superior in more generalized aspects or the business applications that life runs on. Database crunching and management? Mac sucks - Windows PC`s rule, regardless of the flavor (MySQL, MS-SQL, Oracle, etc.).

For my needs and applications, Windows 7 Enterprise has been flawless - after all, my gas chromotography machine got broken in the last move to my new apartment... :-D

I have used both a mac and a pc. My mac crashes programs all the time, it is annoying. Not only games as someone suggested but documents, browsers and music applications. Is it a good system? yes its okay. Will I buy a mac again? No. I own an ipod, an iphone and a mac but I am perfectly aware of the flaws of apple and my next computer will be a pc. If I am going to buy a computer that will only last 3-4 years it is going to cost less than a thousand dollars and run regular programs (also have better help for when there is a real error)

Or to put it another way, "I`m an ignorant dick who doesn`t know what I`m talking about".

For starters, the X is OSX stands for, yes thats right, UNIX. OSX is a full Unix OS and is as customizable as anything Unix is. Sure most users are content NOT to, just like most PC users don`t either. But you can, and pretty easily.

Secondly, you say `Windows` as if Macs don`t run it. They do. They have for almost 10 years now. I`m in Windows on Mac right now. Not emulated. Native OS.

Learn about something before you open your mouth to knock it.

I just facepalm at people who think Apple products are flawless.

Even if it were true that Apple products never crashed (far from accurate), they`re still flawed in different ways. For instance, good luck customizing your UI as you see fit. That`s extremely limited. Windows opens that up a bit, and linux is completely open to ui changes.

No OS is flawless, they all suck in different ways.
I despise the UI on OSX; we`re very incompatible.
I like Windows xp/vista/7 (especially vista/7) for various reasons.
I also use Arch Linux so I can basically build my OS the way I want it.

Lets not bandwagon.

I think it`s funny how some people are like yea this happens like once ever on a mac while a PC this happens everyday. I have a crappy little emachines desktop that I paid $300 for 6 years ago and it still works great. Just accept that if you switched to a mac b/c "windows kept crashing" instead of "I`m an idiot and kept crashing my computer" then you are an idiot.

The fact is nearly all computer crashes are because the user mucked about with the system. If you try telling that to a fanboy (apple or windows, although apple fanboys tend to be more vocal) they deny it and claim that the OS just sucks.

`What do they call it again? `Planned Obsoletion`? They do it with cars, make sure they don`t last a lifetime so the consumer buys another one down the line.`

is that why guns, knifes, various tools and everything else w/o moving parts dont last forever? cars have a crap ton of moving parts that wear out and i still have computers from 10 years that still work as advertised, but everything else has evolved around it to make it obsolete. so unless every person that has ever created something for a computer is in on something that i dont know about, then you`re wrong.
