Slmmhmmr161: Yeah, Because you believe there is no sin right ? She decided to change her life for the better and you ridicule her for it, Isn`t that what you liberals claim that Christians do ? Way to be `open minded` there.

Face it, The only reason you hate people like her is because it shows that sexuality is a lifestyle choice, No one is born gay.

Ok so the list she says:
    Abusing alcohol daily
Doing drugs (can only fathom what) on the weekend
Sexually assaulted at a young age.
    Emotional cutter
    Overweight
And in her own words, "Life was becoming more and more unmanageable"
    Not healthy
Violent outbreaks of were she screams and breaks things.

My two cents on all of this is that we have a lot more problems going on here, than anything brought on by homosexuality.

Well Crakrjak I don`t agree with your last line. Because, like everything in biology (reproduction, hormones, etc. all involved in this) there is no one definitive answer or source, but a combination.

Genetically I can`t tell you I don`t know her family history nor did I see her fingers. (digit ratio theory, look it up) We do know that genes are very complex and very little behavior is controlled by a single gene, but mostly controlled by the sum of many different genes.

Psychosexual development (Freud) assuming the assault occurred in the latency phase (6-puberty) you could a problem in sexual development due to a traumatic incident.

Now the jist of my argument is Nature vs. Nuture viewed from the scope of Ecology. I say the scope of Ecology because to truly understand something you must look at possible factors contributing. Sometimes there is a traumatic reason for it, and sometimes they grow up in homes nicer than yours or mine.

The most idiotic thing to say in the "homosexuality is wrong/natural" debate is that no one is born gay. If we took a child and raised it in a controlled enviorment with no contact with the outside world and society do you think that if we suddenly shove that kid into the outside worl that he/she will be attracted to the opposite sex? Do you even think that he/she will understand what gender is and why its so important in this new world?

There are homosexual animals. You think that they "want attention"? Obviously this lady has had some traumatizing experiences which could have caused her to turn to homosexuality, but are you really suggesting that EVERY SINGLE gay person out there has been psycologically damaged in some way for them to be gay?

The "lifestyle choice" idea is such ludicrous babble that it`s boggling that anyone believes it.

At times, homosexuality has *carried a death sentence*. There were still some people who were homosexual. Why on earth would they have chosen that?

    The argument is nonsense.

The only people who try to choose to be homosexual are a few really way-out sexist bigots who do so out of hatred for the other sex, not attraction to the same sex, or severely mentally damaged victims who do the same out of fear. It`s heterophobia, not homosexuality.

Lifestyle? A lifestyle? What the hell are these people talking about? Homosexuality is no more a single lifestyle than heterosexuality is.

`lifestyle` is nonsense. `choice` is nonsense. More than that, they are both obviously nonsensical. Put them together and it`s just more nonsensical.

Wow.. and christians wonder why the rest of the world seems to have a flame war against them.. This poor woman. She should just be happy in herself. Thats the only real way of finding happiness. Not just burying it under a book with lock and key. Some people are just so blind. Also id like to point out that this girl had wayyy more going on than just being a lesbian like being abused, depressed and self harming herself but no real talk of how they helped her with that. They just `cured` her and presto! Happy christian lady..... I am not convinced.

The people who site this as evidence of conversion therapy have little understanding of human sexuality, self-identity, or most importantly, how these videos make young people feel like they are bad people for being born the way they are. The irony of this woman`s story is that she converted to the very group that made her hate her life to begin with. A little self-actualization would have taken this woman a long way to happiness.

First off, let`s remember tolerance is permitting others to live AND believe differently from yourself. Even if you "know" they are wrong.

Scientifically, I think studies up to this point are inconclusive on the "gay gene". Perhaps a slight correlation? But I don`t believe there`s any basis for saying "no one is born gay" (scientifically or biblically).

There are obviously some people who would rather die than try to not be gay. This woman is obviously not one of them. If you think it`s a good thing to stop pretending you`re straight and live a homosexual lifestyle, then consider it a good thing that this women who was confused about her sexuality has "come out" in her own way to be straight.

From re-listening to it, I don`t believe she was saying homosexuality was the cause of all her problems. More like finding a safe place and knowing it`s okay to be feminine and finding God helped her get through many things which i

"Bible says that homosexuality is an ambomination to the nation. "

No, it does not. Hatefilled people intepret a handful of verses in that way, but it only reflects their heart, not God`s.

As for this woman, many people have claimed to change from homosexual to heterosexual, only to be later caught lying about it. Even Exodus International, the leading ex-gay ministries, admits that people do not change their sexual orienation, they change what they allow themselves to do.

CrakrJak is just lying about millions of people because that makes him feel better about his own life.

There is no one who has demonstrably changed from homosexual to heterosexual. There are millions who have tried without success, and people who claim to have changed, make money off their story, and eventually get caught seeking sex with someone of their own gender.

This woman suffered a great trauma and, after much hardship, is happy. I`m happy for her. I`m also a little pissed at her for claiming she was a lesbian when she wasn`t. She was scared off of men, found a sexual outlet and now she thinks everyone else who is gay is just suffering from the same delusion she was.

She needs to realize that she wasn`t really gay to begin with, and that, while there may be other cases of similarly deluded people, the vast majority of gay people do NOT need the same help she did.

I`m happy that she is happy. But the thing is, she had a bad childhood and a traumatic experience. But what caused her messed up 20`s wasn`t the absence of faith, but of structure. She was unruly and angry. The nice thing about Christianity is, that it is a loving, yet stern, organization. That structure helped her be more mature in her life.

As for sexual preference, I am a bit upset that she feels it is a sin and something to be frowned upon. But as long as she keeps her feelings between her and her friends, then that`s her choice.

There`s a fundamental problem in the whole "Is it a choice" issue. It`s called determinism. Everything you "choose" is a result of your specific brain chemistry which is derived from a combination of it`s initial state (birth) and the interactions it has had over the course of your lifetime (your experiences).
From the perspective of the ignorant Christian, who sees choices as originating in some sort of agency (a soul), they can fool themselves into making a moral judgment on those choices based on a flawed, archaic moral absolute.
The scientific determinist understands that by saying it`s "not a choice", they must also concede that murder and rape are not choices either. It being a choice or not has no bearing on its morality. Morality is a measure of whether an action helps or harms the society. Homosexuality has no victims and is therefore not immoral. Rape and murder are punished so as to remove the offending members from the populace, circumv

Philosophaster - I mean Volsunga - what a ridiculous piece of argument. So, Mr. "Scientific Determinist" how is it possible to have morality if there is no agency? A fundamental assumption of any system of morality is that people can choose to make the most moral choice. BTW, it is utter nonsense to say that one must believe in a soul in order to believe in agency.

Volsunga: Your `scientific determinism` is just a verbose way of saying that you don`t believe that sin exists and that anyone`s behavior can be chalked up to just `chemical reactions` in their brains. Thus no behavior is moral or amoral, There is no right or wrong. So, In the attempt to prevent total anarchy, Secular Humanism was invented to replace religious morality.

That is just the atheist bullsh|t way of trying to rid the world of religion without causing anarchy.

Don`t post on the internet if you`re going to get butthurt by people criticizing your arguments. Fallacies are in no way related to opinion. If someone is calling you out on your fallacy, they are making a claim of fact. They may be incorrect, but it is still a factual claim, not an opinion.
If someone is openly criticizing and "ridiculing" your beliefs, that means that they are perfectly open to you doing the same to them. You don`t need to give them a warning.

If you can`t defend your beliefs, then why do you hold them?

actually, you DO need something akin to a "soul" if you want to have a concept of agency. If you want agency, then you have to invent something that`s somehow exempt from the laws that govern causality in the universe, otherwise it reduces to determinism anyway.
I was making an epistemological point, so your claim of the meaning of morality is not relevant to what I was saying. However, I guess it does need some clarification. Scientific determinism does not preclude "free will", it merely explains the mechanisms behind it. It`s really only a difference of looking at it from the bottom up versus from the top down. It`s much easier to assume free will and choice when making ethical judgments because trying to calculate all determining factors is impossible by Heisenburg`s principle.
What I was trying to say is that it is wrong to say "It`s ok because it`s not a choice". That`s mixing disciplines and illogical.

CrakrJak: Arguing with such venom isn`t going to hammer the point home. It just makes others think you`re aguing for the sake of arguing without even considering opposing views. As for homosexuality being a choice instead of being born that way...One - who cares? Two - Do you recall when you chose to be straight? Kinda cuts to the heart of it don`t you think?

#Crackrjack you never answered my question. Why does it matter if a person is born gay or choses to be gay? It still isn`t hurting you or anyone else. It`s still their choice not yours.

Are you just against it because the bible says it is a sin? The bible says a lot of things, it contradicts itself, and I have news for you it was written (AND EDITED) by men not by god. Which is why we have the texts that are in the bible today and not others that were popular during their time because people picked and chose the texts that they wanted to be in there.

Saying that being gay is a choice implies that sexual attraction can be changed at anytime, and gay people can be straight anytime, and likewise, straight people can be gay anytime.

Sexual orientation is NOT a choice, it`s a preference of one gender over the other that one cannot change. You can`t change what you`re attracted too; for example, straight women don`t wake up and say "Hmm.. I could like boobs today, but I`ll like muscles and facial hair instead."

Tell me why anyone would CHOOSE to be outcasted and ostracized from society.

Cause people are hermaphordites and cannot help this u know.

Can you explain what you mean by that? Hermaphroditism is rather rare in humans unless you stretch the definition far beyond anything reasonable.

Bible says that homosexuality is an ambomination to the nation.

A very inaccurate English version might, but it would be wrong. That is not what Jews wrote in the bronze age.

Besides, why does it make sense for a Christian to ignore nearly all of the 613 rules in the old testament and cling so strongly to just that one? Especially as the English translations are usually very inaccurate anyway.

NotTHATbored: being gay is a choice, Since it is choice it can`t be claimed legally as a `minority`.

If you choose to get a `Jersey` style spray on tan, And someone called you names over it, You can`t then claim you are `minority` and file suit for discrimination.

That is what the essence of `choice` boils down to. If you go into a job interview with tattoos on your face and piercings all over, And you didn`t get hired, You can`t sue that company because they didn`t choose to hire you.

In those cases, You also can`t claim `minority` status in applying for college loans or other government programs.

    Fun quote from the APA

Recent studies of participants in Sexual Orientation Change Efforts (SOCE) identify a population of individuals who experience serious distress related to same sex sexual attractions. Most of these participants are Caucasian males who report that their religion is extremely important to them...
Scientifically rigorous older work in this area (e.g., Birk, Huddleston, Miller, & Cohler, 1971; James, 1978; McConaghy, 1969, 1976; McConaghy, Proctor, & Barr, 1972; Tanner, 1974, 1975) found that s exual orientation (i.e., erotic attractions and sexual arousal oriented to one sex or the other, or both) was unlikely to change due to efforts designed for this purpose.

Although there is insufficient evidence to support the use of psychological interventions to change sexual orientation, some individuals modified their sexual orientation identity (i.e., group membership and affiliation), behavior, and values (Nicolosi, Byrd, & Potts, 2000). They did so in a variety of ways and with varied and unpredictable outcomes, some of which were temporary (Beckstead & Morrow, 2004; Shidlo & Schroeder, 2002). Based on the available data, additional claims about the meaning of those outcomes are scientifically unsupported.

First off I don`t think that it`s actually possible for anyone to sue someone for calling them a name. Unless you can somehow prove that it defamed your character, caused you damages, and that what was said was false. Maybe harassment if you followed them around all day calling them a name?

Second off, are you proposing that people should be allowed to not hire someone because they are gay? That is ridiculous. If someone has peircings all over their face, then they bring that to work, and it`s understandable that an employer wouldn`t want to hire them. Also you keep saying that it is a choice and I do agree that in some cases it is, but how do you know that it is always a choice? Some people are just drawn to the same sex that is how they are born. I myself could swing either way and if I chose to be with a woman instead of my fiance then I would choose be a lesbian I guess? So what? That`s my choice and it has to do with my private life not my public one. I`ve known men like this too. They could go either way, but some guys just don`t like women. Period. @Crakrjack that is terrible and disgusting. You should have made a complaint with a government agency or sued. There are laws to protect you too. However just because one gay person sexually harrassed you doesn`t mean that every gay person would behave like that. You can`t say that because one gay person was bad that all gay people should be punished. That would be like me running a company and saying that I wasn`t going to hire any men because someone I know was raped or sexually harrassed by one!

@Crakr there still should have been something that you could do. Especially if more than one person experienced the harrassment. It shouldn`t matter if you are an indipendant contractor or not... you should look into your state laws and anti-discrimination policies and agencies.

@Cajun that doesn`t surprise me considering that people HIV/AIDs have access to better medications and are living longer. Doesn`t make the disease any less scary. I`ve seen the Tv specials and what those meds do to you.

@Cajun Yes this is true I suppose... I don`t know it`s such a conflicting issue. I feel like I have the right not to hire someone with a contagious disease but I also feel that I should not have to pay for them contracting a disease from having unprotected sex or using needles illegally.

NotTHATbored: Nope, I don`t think it`s anyone`s business during the hiring process to know what race, religion, sexual orientation, etc.. you are. People should be judged by the content of their character and experience.

What I`m opposed to is the use of lawsuits by those that claim `minority` status that are not actual minorities. Our legal system is clogged enough as it is.

    @CrakrJak

"People who are Nurses, Doctors, Police, etc.. Have been exposed to AIDS through direct contact with patients bodily fluids"

They were exposed to HIV. AIDS is the syndrome that develops due to infection by HIV.

Small mistakes like that demonstrate a likely lack of knowledge on the larger issue in general.

"Yes, AIDS can be present in any bodily fluid including sputum (spit)."

Again, your lack of understanding shows. HIV is the virus that may be present in the spit. AIDS is the effect of the virus.

    HIV = Human immunodeficiency virus.
AIDS = Acquired immune deficiency syndrome.

    Key points of this video:
Lesbians back in the early 90`s dressed so oddly that two old crones can pick them out of a church crowd.
Homosexuals need hope (to turn straight)
This woman strides to assert that she was assaulted by someone "outside her family".
All "informative" church videos share the same piano soundtrack.

Jesus loves everybody but humans can`t love the opposed sex -.- he loves you no matter what but if you love the opposed sex he will make you suffer in hell -.- and Christians says that it`s not healthy for a child to have two fathers but Jesus had two and he turned somehow OK, except for the dead part

I`d love to say this is crazy but I knew I was gay from age 11 and always struggled with accepting it, something didn`t sit right. Now at the age of 21 I`ve had this same experience. I never ever thought I would ever want a relationship with a man or find them attractive but I must say I feel like a completely different person now I have allowed God to help me.

You can never understand this until it happens to you or someone very close to you. I`m so happy God changed me, I could have never been happy as I was and never have pleased God enough. Now I`m following his plans for me and I can live the truly fulfilling, purposeful and productive life he wants for me.

Oh wait, I didn`t need to rephrase it. You said exactly that:

There are so many things I could rant about. I think I will just settle with saying that it`s great she got her life together, BUT PLEASE, YOU DID NOT MAGICALLY TURN STRAIGHT. actually, that`s impossible... so many studies have shown it`s impossible. Hence why psychologist and psychiatrists don`t treat homosexuality as a disease.

also, she said "jesus will you come in me"... whicch is just... too easy >_o

God didn`t "fix" anything with her. Everything that changed about her was from her own doing. She just believe that it was possible for her to change and so she did. I just wish people could see how much they can accomplish if they would just believe in themselves.
