In Canadian football, a missed field goal will earn a single point if the defending team cannot catch the ball in bounds (in the end zone) and get the ball out of the end zone. Usually it is run out but this was the last play of the game and the defending team just wanted to get it out period.

"rewarding a team for being unable to get the ball out of their end zone"

I consider it being rewarded if a team chooses not to get the ball out of the end zone so they can get an automatic placement on the 20. In the cFL there is no option to do that, you run it out or you give up a point.

Nihilism, NFL doesn`t reward players unable to get it out of the endzone. Look up a "safety" and you`ll understand.
In a way it makes more sense than the US version of rewarding a team for being unable to get the ball out of their end zone.
But in the NFL they aren`t "rewarded" for not getting it out of the endzone. I rarely see them kneel down because they can`t get out of the endzone. They just don`t think they can get to, or past, the 20 yard line. If they take a knee it goes to the 20. They could easily get it out of the endzone but they may get stopped at the 5 or 10 yard line. So they take it to the 20 to have more room to work. It`s a different situation.

messy, messy sport. Even if this doesn`t happen often, you NEVER get something this ridiculous resulting in point scoring/ victory in rugby.

@AustinJay - If that wasn`t a terrible attempt at trolling, I don`t know what is.

Anyways, Nihilism and boeingguyu787 explained it perfectly, it very rare this happens as people are often able to run it out of the end zone and avoid the single point.
Also, I find the CFL extremely popular where I am, we even often fill up other peoples stadiums.

I`m going to start watching Canadian football. It looks like WAY more fun than the stupid NFL. Canada is awesome.

It`s very simple. In Canada there`s no touchback rule. If you don`t get the football out of your end zone on a kick or missed field goal it counts as a single point (a `rouge`). Normally this means running it out to avoid getting tackled in the end zone for the point, but on rare, desperate occasions it can involve trying to kick it out even if it gives possession back to the kicking team. In a way it makes more sense than the US version of rewarding a team for being unable to get the ball out of their end zone.

Bizarre? I don`t even know what the f*** just happened. Why in God`s name did they just punt a missed FG back to each other?

I swear to God some Canadian got stoned as hell one night and said "Hey, you know American Football? I`ve got an idea".

Rammo the CFL isn`t nearly as popular as the NFL. The only people that really pay attention to their teams are folks in the prairies... Some care when their teams makes it to the grey cup but even then meh. They had the grey game here in toronto and if someone didn`t tell you that a huge CFL game was going on, you would have never known. The buffalo bills drew more hype ffs.

The league is so drating stupid, there`s only 8 teams and 2 manage to share the same name it`s so un-original.

The CFL is very popular, although not nearly to the degree that hockey is. Personally, i`m not a huge football fan and only watch a few Lions games every year, but I watch nearly every Canucks game. The CFL is more popular than the NFL, though, if that`s what you were wondering.

In Canadian Football, if you kick the ball through the endzone, you get 1 point. That is what the original kickers (Montreal) were trying to do. They failed. If the other team (Toronto) were to kneel, they would also forfeit a point, and thus lose the game. So they had to get it out. And he tried, then the Montreal player kicked it back in, then Toronto tried to kick it out, but failed, and Montreal recovered for a touchdown. In the CFL, you have to give a kicker 5 yards of space when he touches the ball, otherwise it is a penalty, and that`s what the second bit of the video was all about. If a penalty were to be called against Montreal, the play would have to be restarted.

okay, here we go.

This was the last play of the game, and the teams were tied.

In the CFL, you can get a single point by kicking it in any way through the back of the end zone. This is called a "rouge". The team that attempted the field goal knew that to win, they had to at least get the rouge.

However, either team has the option of kicking the ball at any time, giving possession to the other team.
Some things to note are that a missed field goal is still a live ball, and that when receiving a punt or missed field goal, the kicking team must give 5 yards of space to the receiver.

The Toronto player (blue) prevented the rouge, and kicked the ball out to avoid a safety. (there are no touchbacks in the CFL). Montreal (white) was lucky enough to have the ball caught by their actual kicker, who knew the rules of the situation. He kicked it back, as if it was a punt.
The ball then hit a Toronto player in the end zone, making anyone ava

Actually the history of Curling is more complicated than one might think. It`s based on a technique of delivering land mines underneath tanks in the muddy fields of WWII.

Canadians were especially adept at this task, leading to the phrase "Crazy Canuck" (this phrase was later was used to refer to a certain group of downhill athletes which shall never be spoken of by true Canadians).

Once the soldiers returned home, they had this skill which nobody knew what to do with. They attempted to integrate this into their daily lives, with disastrous results.

You see, at the time the concept of "flat" had not occurred to us. Every surface in the land was either curved or bumpy. Every attempt to curl was met with the unexpected result of an object flying through the air.

Once our Engineers had perfected "flat" injuries decreased significantly, yet was not accepted by the population. Even today if you look closely at the surface o

okay, there were no sports that ive heard of that were created in canada, only variations of pre-existing sports.

football- versions have existed as far as you can look back through history.

hockey- both egyptians and native americans had forms of field hockey, but ice hockey originated in canada

baseball- pre-existing sports in britain, but as its played today was invented in the US

basketball- invented in the US

look it up on wikipedia or any other source really.
