We thought this was Texas or Florida, but it"s California! Just because of a few pesky definitions. We"re in trouble.

If this fully happens, and is still in effect by the time my son starts school, I will be sending him with multiple mini dictionary copies to hand out to friends, and leave in class rooms. This is beyond ridiculous.

I saw the craziest board book in the library today about poo. There were colourful illustrations of a mouse pooing, an elephant with a dump 2x bigger than itself, a bear slipping in it`s own feces and some (yet) undetermined creature practically sniffing it`s turds. If toddlers can handle that book than why can`t 10 year olds handle the definition of oral sex? Stop being such a prude Mom!

Hell, back in the 80`s, we had a slang dictionary in our library. I learned the definition of "F**K a duck! And many more. Pretty sure they`ve removed that book by now.

THIS is why American public education is failing. School boards are so obsessed with what the children "shouldn`t" learn and don`t care enough about what they should. If a child is trying to expand his horizons BY HIMSELF, it should be encouraged. When you condition kids to avoid knowledge "because it`s bad", all you get are disillusioned teens who have no will to learn anything throughout High School.

***BREAKING NEWS*** California school district bans Webster`s Dictionary and replace it with Urban Dictionary. Have fun explaining to your kid when they ask what a rusty trombone, Trojan helmet, Cincinnati bow-tie, or a hot Carl lunch is.

Word of advice that may be alright where you come from to call a southern redneck a yank. However if you do it in the southern/western USA be ready to catch sh*t for it. It`s supposed to apply to North East Americans.

My issues with this story is that the School board banned the book on ONE person`s complaint and no other parent in the school revolted !!!!
Holy crap people where are your gonads??? what happened to living in a democratic society where majority rules ...if ALL parents felt the same way then the school should do something ...but 1!!! COME ON California you are a leader in progressive thinking NOT regressive!

DickenMcHunt is right and I stand corrected. the HAPPY MEAL is not banned. But San Francisco did ban the toy... so they took the HAPPY out of the Happy Meal. Who the hell wants an UNhappy meal? That`s just a burger.

Whatever their justification, it`s still the Fun Police at work.

But Dick`s wrong on the democracy thing. It was the city council that voted on the ban, not the peepul {bless their crooked hearts}.

Stories like this make me die inside a little. Smoeone thinks that a technical description of something natural is too offensive? It`s unforgivably pathetic. To restore my faith in humanity a little, I watched this. Like the article says, it`s MUCH better to read a dry, factual description of a sexual act (or organ) than to ask Google or Yahoo "Answers" about it and see some GENUINE "graphic content".

"Ha, "we thought this was texas or florida"... because a liberal utopia such as california (what a coincidence it`s the most bankrupt state too!) would NEVER want to control what children have access to! Oh wait... "

Once again Eric I see you posting half truths. The reality is that (according to the Tax Foundation and Moody`s) that the top five states with the highest debt:person ratio are as follows:

1. Massachusets
2. Alaska
3. Rhode Island
4. Connecticut
5. Delaware

California, as it happens is #23, slightly above the midway point. As it happens California is less of a liberal utopia than much of the East Coast. Another interesting fact, those states with the highest level of debt have the highest "quality of life index," some of the lowest unemployment and they`re all in the bottom #10 in terms of the poverty line. Low poverty, Better education, higher standard of life, lower crime rates, but higher debt? I t

Freak the kids don`t need no stinking dictionary hard book today. They just pull out their smart phones and look up the definition via "urban dictionary` website, and get the true meaning.

To Clarify- there is not a "ban" on Happy Meals. There has been an injunction effective immediately until Happy Meals/Kids Meals (and all packaged/prepared meals marketed for children under 17 years of age)can meet specific nutrition and health guidelines.

Not so similarly, there is an ACTUAL ban on selling tobacco, pornography and alcohol to minors. If anything- more ridiculous than imposing nutrition regulations on foodstuffs for minors is allowing 17 year old children to have sex legally- while barring them from watching OTHER people having sex, or showing them proper safe sex practices with real genitalia without violating a law.

The nature of California law is such that it functions more similarly to a genuine democracy than most states- allowing citizen to propose amendments and legislation to be ratified via "popular vote." Some stuck up parent embarrassed about sex and sexuality proposed this junk and it got beat down. Democracy in action.

You can only be surprised by this if you don`t live in California.

San Francisco has banned Happy Meals `cause kids like them too much.

California is the state where the word "minority" is banned. Yep, they erased a word from existance. When hispanics became the majority population they didn`t want to loose all those nice benefits reserved for "minorities" so the gov`ment banned "Minority" and substituted it with "People of Color". POC means anybody who isn`t white.

Also, in 3 major cities you cannot smoke in your car if your dog is with you `cause of second hand smoke.

The land of Loonies

But on the other hand, we have Paris Hilton, Mel Gibson, and Linsey Lohan so ... never mind

The pesky parent objecting to the definition of oral sex was just a convenient excuse. The REAL reason they banned it was because of those REALLY objectionable words like freedom, liberty, constitution, capitalism, self-reliance, etc. The California education system can`t abide that kind or extremist hate speech.

I don`t know whether to laugh laugh or cry at this... I mean if there are kids who are actually in need of "looking up" the definition of oral sex I would think you`d rather them check out the dictionary rather than typing that into google
