Mars Attacks! should be called The Worst F**king Movie You`ll Ever See.

W. The previews made it look like an irreverent comedy about Bush, but it was pretty much a biography. I wouldn`t really call it awful, but the preview set me up for disappointment.

Hancock. The trailer made it look like a hilarious comedy with Will Smith as an alcoholic, homeless, slacker superhero. It was funny for about 20 minutes, then it turned into this weird, messy drama thing about deities and power struggles and Charlize Theron being his special other half, or some crap. Terrible.

If you think movie trailers are misleading, take a look at MMORPG trailers.

District-9 was misleading to me, it looked like an action movie where the aliens were fighting US soldiers with their mechs and hightech weapons.

I don`t see why 5th Element is misleading

Trailer shows a sci fi action adventure
Movie delivers a sci fi action adventure

I`ve seen the Fifth Element quite a few times. It`s one of my favorite sci-fi flicks (go ahead and laugh, I`ll laugh with you), but that was the first time I`ve ever seen a "trailer" for it. I have to agree: the trailer is deceiving. I like the movie because it was "so bad it`s good", but that trailer just made it look awesome from the start.

There was a movie called "Man of the Year" with Robin Williams. It was advertised as being a comedy where a John Stewart-type comedian wins the presidential election. It was actually a drama about some horribly glitched voting machines and the woman who was being hunted down for trying to expose the cover-up. And Robin Williams was barely in it (I`m one of the people that likes Williams, so that was a big con for me.)

I loved In Bruges, but the trailer on that site was godawful. Every trailer, they do the same crappy effects - upbeat music which stops just in time for the punchline, that douchebag voiceover guy who I want to stab in the vocal chords... all the things that have been parodied expertly in South Park and on Cracked.com

Paranormal Activity did nothing for me. I didn`t see the previews, though. A bunch of people at my college were like "ZOMG I CRAPPED MY PANTS WATCHING IT!"
I actually WANTED something bad to happen to the guy. He annoyed me.
I felt that Toy Story 3 had more suspense. And the creepy cymbal monkey haunts my dreams.

Bridge to Terabithia was the worst god damned movie I`ve ever seen.

I thought Small Soldiers had a pretty misleading trailer. I thought all the soldiers would be good guys.

s4r4h, completely agree on paranormal activity which is why i refuse to watch the sequel. the first one was so boring that the only jump and scream in a full ass theater came form one girl in the front row at the very end of the movie. everyone else just laughed at her as she walked out embarrassed and giggling.

The first kick ass trailer I saw was the one where hit girl was introduced, so I knew exactly what to expect. And it delivered.

About the list: I went in, expecting it to be full of films that sucked, but had very good trailers. Instead it was a list of several good movies (and some meh), with misleading trailers.

@ToshSucksO

I already commented on Kick Ass` trailer, bottom of the page, but to reiterate, I agree.

Sorry to comment again. No one said anything about Paranormal Activity. The trailer showed a pretty decent semi-scary looking movie. The actual movie was just watching people sleep the whole time until the end which they put in the trailer.

@ToshSucksO I thought the Kick Ass trailer gave enough away to catch the eye of the viewer but also kept enough away from the viewer for them to enjoy the movie. I hate it when I see a trailer and it shows me everything that is going to happen in the movie, it wrecks it for me. Anyway, I absolutely adore Kick Ass, it is definitely one of the best movies to come out in a long time in my opinion.

No KickAss? The trailer (and the name) led me to believe it would be a funny movie, made up of what would happen if there was a super hero in real life. With teen-level jokes every 2 seconds throughtout the entire movie. I was expecting something similar to A Superhero Movie.

And yes, the first third of the film was exactly what was to be expected, then out of no where, a completely serious stabbing happened, and my mind went "OK, so maybe they`re switching to what would ACTUALLY happen, including serious consequences" But then, we get this off the wall completely unreal little girl and the movie turns into a completely serious movie with tear jerking moments. It gets INTENSE!

The last half of the movie was almost opposite what the trailer said it was. But it was still one of my favorite movies EVER!

and Lblaxplaya20, totally agree on Kickass. I thought it was going to be a corny piece of crap and didn`t even bother to plan on watching it. Luckily my mom called and told me how awesome it was so I watched it and just remembered thinking "why would you have a trailer that makes your movie seem pooty when it`s the exact opposite?"

The "Very Bad Things" one was so right! I read the summary on Netflix and decided "a comedy of a bunch of guys in Vegas, this is going to be sorta like "The Hangover" then everybody either died or was left disabled including the dog :(

SW: The Phantom Menace...The trailer look like it might not suck. Probably because it didn`t have a whole lot of Lucas` crappy dialogue.

I just saw JACKASS 3D... Misleading Misleading Misleading

From the name it sounds like "The Bear" or "Benji". One of those cute animal movies. But there was not one donkey in the whole movie. Just some guys doing dumb stunts.

I think the whole title is misleading. I was ASSUMING that this was about previews that suggested one thing and the movie COMPLETLY delivered another. So with that in mind, I shall post my opinion on the biggest offender.

The movie BC, waas advertised and previewed as the story of the beginning of man. What it ACTUALLY delivered was a fantasy movie with magic, spiritual animal control and an alien god-king. Good movie but, noot at ALL what the previews made it out to be.

As far as this post, I would have to disagree with the sweeny todd one. The movie was exactly what I expected, except whats with the "Demon" barber? There was no demons in the movie at all.

Surrogates.

What trailer makes it out to be- Awesome movie, ton of action, fighting, etc., just all in all awesome.

Reality of the movie- Very little action, rather poorly made, just all in all terrible.

I went into Sweeney Todd knowing it was a musical, but then again I love musical theatre. Johnny Depp managed to sing-talk his way through, but Helena Bonham Carter made me want to strangle her. If you`re gonna make a movie musical either get people who can sing, or dub them.

Daybreakers (recent vampire film)
The trailer made it look like a film that wasn`t complete garabage and had a decent plotline / character development and so on. The film lacked all of these and was awful.

you should have never been fooled by the inglorious basterds trailer. its a tarantino film, which means a whole lot of talking, followed by some racism, followed by a lot more talking.

Kick Ass(Dont knock it until you try it)
Trailer: Very dull and slow moving child-type comedy where four average people become "superheroes" and try to fight "crime"
Reality: Very funny and action packed movie where one kid gets his ass kicked, another kid betrays his "friend" and a little girl beats the poo out of everyone that tries to stop her.

@Feiku I fully agree. Haha I actually liked Burn After Reading. Although the scene with the dildo chair was a little unconformable because I was sitting next to my mother at the time. And Inglorious Basterds is one of my favorite movies.

Yup, I agree 110% about Inglorious Bastards. I watched it right after being cheated on by my exgf (what a skank). I was expecting hilarious orgy of violence and gore that would make it all better. But I was let down... AGAIN.

Burn After Reading
Trailer: All star feel-good hilarious comedy!
Reality: Dark and dull with perhaps 2 jokes in it, not including Brad Pitt getting graphically shot in the face.

The American
Trailer: Bond-esque spy action thriler.
Reality: Slow, character study in which nothing happens until the last 5 minutes (which were all in the trailer.)

I always thought that about bridge to terabithia, it`s like a few minutes of the imagination thing, then pretty sad, then she dies and its even more sad, and no time is spent mourning or anything..wtf

Tv Tropes has an entire page dedicated to misleading trailers.

Also my personal example would be have to be Kangaroo Jack. That movie sucked BALLS.

Oh, GOD YES.

That`s the first movie that popped into my mind. It promised a Nazi slaughterfest and delivered a boring, talky movie about a girl running a movie theater.

INGLORIOUS BASTARDS

Trailers shows a fun filled romp behind enimy lines killing Nazi`s in fun, imaginative ways with funny Brad Pit "YesYesYes"

The movie is really a depressing story of a french jewish girl in hiding.

Hated It!
