They have a right to build a mosque - since *those* Muslims didn`t kill anyone. It was crazy, radical, non-American Muslims who arranged 9/11.

Pathetic! But typical liberals, eh? Wants to control the language, change the topic, do ANYTHING to stop her guest from speaking the TRUTH.
At least Baa-Baa Waa-Waa took those two to task for their childish tantrum.

What he said was indeed fact. (some) muslims did kill Americans on 9/11.

But the ladies decided to take the statement to mean much more than it actually does. Then they way overreacted. Then they did what a typical, whiny ass liberal would do and ran away from whatever was bothering them.

I am independant and hate both sides equally... FYI. But Bill did not say anything that was not a cold stone fact. How he said it (inflection) was definitely designed to roogh up some feathers which he did.

"They have a right to march down the street burning crosses and wearing white robes, after all it wasn`t THOSE KKK members who burned and lynched negros..."
Great logic there @Jasonbobdude. It fails however since the crew that`s funding the GZM ARE crazy, radical non-American Muslims, eh?

That`s not true either. Research the money trail for some of the people funding the mosque and if you dig deep enough, some of it has ties to supporting terrorist or extremist groups.

You may not be pulling the trigger yourself, but funding extremists that commit terrorism is jsut as bad.

    Wow, that man is stupid.

Did Theodore Kaczynski`s religion ever play a role in his bombings?

What happened in the US between 1993, when the WTC bomb was "set by terrorists" (according to the memorial) who came from Iraq, and 2001? Why do you feel attacked by a religion who pray to the same god as Christians do?

    Hooray to Whoopi!

Why is it that conservatives have such a hard time understanding such simple concepts?

If they can`t have a mosque near ground zero, then anywhere a Christian killed someone, they should have to tear down the churches.

Makes sense to me...or at least when I used the bubble headed Republican logic...

"Makes sense to me...or at least when I used the bubble headed Republican logic..."

You mistake isolated incidents, with one huge incident that had a huge impact on all of America and other countries. That logic you speak of is not what they are using. Instead, your logic is severely flawed.

There are better arguments against Conservatives regarding this mosque issue, but yours is not one of them.

I think something a lot of people are missing here is that the 9/11 terrorists USED THEIR RELIGION as a basis for the attacks. "Striking down the infidels" or whatever the drat excuse they made. So sure, THOSE Muslims didn`t kill people on 9/11, but their religion did. Extremely deluded members of their religion, but their religion nonetheless.

It`s kind of like saying that we should be cool with Neo-Nazis because *they* didn`t kill 6 million Jews.

I fear my previous reference may have taken it a bit far...

No it isn`t. Your statement would only be true if the people building the centre were themselves members of Al Quaeda. If you can`t see the difference in comparing Nazi`s to Nazi`s and comparing normal everyday people to terrorists then theres very little hop for you.

Wow, I hate how both sides are blind to what the other side is saying. All people want to do is fight. O`reilly was just stating that they have every right to build a Mosque there. However, since the attacks were by Muslims that it would be in bad taste. He did make a big mistake by not saying that the Muslims were extremist and not the Muslims that live here. I completely agree that they have the right to build a Mosque there. Muslims are just as American as anyone else in the country. However, no one can deny that because religion is such a hot topic among Americans; proposing the build site be located close to Ground Zero and thinking that it won`t raise alarms in the minds of most Americans, is just absurd. People on both sides of the party line need to open their minds. Realize that your not always right. No answer is Black and White, but all answers are shades of Gray. Instead of immediately getting angry hear out the other side. You might learn something.

5Cats, it is true. There are 25 disciples they pray to and their names are the Islamic versions of the main figures of the Old and New Testaments. The first I believe is Abraham and number 24 is Jesus. Number 25 is the Prophet Mohhammed.

Splurbyburbl it is true that there are links to people who fund terrorism, but those same people fund NewsCorp which is Fox News founders. I don`t have the links, but I am sure someone else does.

Behar and Goldberg are liberal ideologues, They wouldn`t dare listen to a different opinion because that could possibly loose them some friends. It`s almost impossible to be an "A-list" celebrity and have conservative views, The liberals have too much control over celebrities careers and lives. Most celebrities with conservative views just remain silent rather than risk their career or loose friends. It`s Hollywood apartheid.

get the facts straight...1. It is not a mosque , it`s a community center, where all are welcome 2. Yes people will pray there. like they have been even while it was a Burlington Coat Factory and before any of the controvercy started. Ask yourself this, if you saw a Muslim praying near the 9/11 site would you stop him/her? Republicans say they want to uphold the constitution, THEN DO IT!!

I think it`s absolutely insane that they are even considering building a mosque where the twin towers once stood. I am completely with Bill O`Reilly - people should give him more credit than they do.

Most of my confusion at this possibility does stem from the fact that its a Mosque. Why? There are enough hard feelings towards them that this would be just rubbing salt in the wound and would deepen whatever feelings most Americans might have for the religion, whether those feelings are based in truth or not. The other part of my confusion is why would we build a mosque instead of some sort of monument or something to replace the twin towers (another WTC) as a tribute? I would be upset if they were to build a catholic church too! Let`s build something to honor the spirit of those lost in this horrible tragedy.

    lol, here we go again:)

Yes it is a Mosque. It is referred to as such by the planners.

There isn`t anything wrong with calling it what it will be.

It will be a multipurpose facility that will house a mosque for people to use for worship.

It will not house a christian church. There will be no Hindi worship there.

You will not see Buddhists or Taoists meditating.

You will not see Catholics, those wacky Westboro Baptists, or any religion BUT Islam being allowed to worship there.

Don`t pretend this place will be some happy fun time multi religion place of worship and exercise.

It will be a mosque. And it is not the wisest thing to build two blocks from GZ.

lmao. Why would a porno shop or a McDonalds be in the same discussion as "a proposed mosque 2 blocks from GZ"?

They knew what kind of a person Bill O`Rielly is before they invited him on. It would be like inviting the KKK to discuss racial equality and getting pissed that they hate black people. Fattpill, it is obvious from your avatar that you are a devout Christian. And you claim these other people are not Christian because they pervert your faith.

Now, apply that to Islam, with Al-Qaeda being the ones perverting their faith.

Even if you can prove the Crusades were fought over money and not religion, it was the religious leadership (i.e. the Pope) who ordered them. Religion causes much wars and killing, look at Africa, look at Palestine, look at Jerusalem.

This, for me, is such a frivolous argument.

Obviously, according to our Constitution, Muslims have every right to build a mosque where they want. No one contests that. Whether it`s tasteful or not to build a mosque close to Ground Zero is an issue I take contention with.

    1) The tired (but entirely valid) argument that Islam did not kill Americans, but religious nutjobs did. How many Catholic churches are within a 5-mile radius of the Oklahoma City bombing site?

    2) Why is 2 blocks close? What if this were 7 blocks? Would it be too close then? How about 10 blocks? Where is the line and WHY are people so enraged about 2 New York city blocks??

2 is such an arbitrary number, on which people build a baseless argument. If there were a mosque built 15 blocks away, people would still be (unjustifiably) enraged.

On one hand, I`m pissed at Whoopi Goldberg for not keeping a level head and just kind of throwing a hissie fit and running off the stage like a little girl.

On the other hand, she threw a hissie fit because he said, "We can`t build a Muslim religious center because Muslims attacked the world trade center."

It was just one big drating derp fest up there.

I`ve been through this all before with everyone arguing otherwise.

By the way, I`m reading now, feel free to back down from all your assertions as soon as they get too hard to back up.

    1) Fox has closer ties to any terrorist organization than the Community Center.

    2) Christian God == Muslim God. OR Jewish God =/= Christian God =/= Other Denominations of Christian`s God. We`ve been through this. All the definitions support it. You not understanding is not the issue`s fault.

"5Cats, it is true. There are 25 disciples they pray to". Sigh... no.

    3) Quote:"Striking down the infidels" or whatever the drat excuse they made.
Let`s look it up: "Injustices against the Lebanese and Palestinians by Israel and the United States" was the drat excuse they made, that`s one hell of a mistype.

While O`Reilly means what he is saying and thinks he is right, he is being rather hypocritical to the constitution and what it stands for. This country was FOUNDED on the idea of freedom of religion, and to deny the construction of a church - for any reason - goes against that founding principle.

I am an atheist, but I would think that any decent human being would be for standing for other peoples constitutional rights. If we start telling Muslims where they can and can not build their mosques, where does it end? Where does the bigotry end? Tell Jews where they can and can not live? Tell atheists that they will be thrown out of the country if they don`t convert?

Those are NOT Christians they are Atheist attempting to give Christians a Bad name.

Let me get this straight...you really think that the more raving anti-homosexual Christians, such as the Westboro Baptist Church, are atheists operating deep undercover to give Christians a bad name?

Way to go! You`ve managed to dream up a truly bizarre conspiracy theory to give atheists a bad name. Which makes you a hypocrite as well as paranoid and delusional.

There are some Christians who, with good reason, consider the Westboro bigots et alia to be so profoundly wrong in terms of Christianity that they`re not actually Christians.

There are also some Muslims who, with good reason, consider the various Muslim terrorists and their supporters to be be so profoundly wrong in terms of Islam that they`re not actually Muslims.

But you`re the first person I`ve heard babble out the undercover atheist conspiracy nonsense.

5Cats, it is true. There are 25 disciples they pray to and their names are the Islamic versions of the main figures of the Old and New Testaments. The first I believe is Abraham and number 24 is Jesus. Number 25 is the Prophet Mohhammed.

Your basic point is right (same god), but you`re way off base with the details.

Muslims pray to 1 god and that`s it. It`s right down at the foundation of the religion. It`s even the guts of the first part of the most basic statement of Islam - there is no god but god and Mohammed is his prophet. That`s so basic to Islam that if I recall correctly it`s the key statement of faith for a Muslim. Absolutely no worship of any kind of anything else, at all, ever, not even a little bit like praying to them. It`s not like versions of Christianity in which people can pray to a saint as a sort of intermediary.

They revere their prophets, but they sure don`t pray to them.

    Also...25?

While I wouldn`t outlaw building a new mosque (and yes, it is a mosque) that close to the attack site, I think it`s arrogant and brutally insensitive and they shouldn`t do it. Sure, they should have the right of freedom of religion. But they should have some consideration about using it.

Let`s say that, somehow, the medieval Inquisitions rose again and went on a killing spree, explicitly as Christians, and slaughtered thousands of Muslims explicitly as a Christian act in the name of Christianity.

Would a permanent monument to Christianity, a Christian church and a centre for advocating the spread of Christianity really be a decent thing to build as close as possible to the site of that attack?

I still believe that 9/11 was just another example of corruption by the american leader. Look at Pearl Harbour. It was well documented that Roosevelt knew that Japanese were planing an attack. Why else would he have moved most of their biggest ships out of the area? Or the Tonkin Golf Incident, where two submarines claimed to have been attacked by Vietnamese, just so LBJ could have the complete support of congress and his country. Even though it was never certain, and later was proved to be FALSE.
9/11 was certainly NOT the first time an american leader used an "attack" for a reason to go into war.
And by the looks of it, there haven`t been many of these attacks that were very concrete.

Why is there a need to keep this going?

The only reason this was done was for ratings. O`Reilly and Joy/Whoopi are almost as far-right and far-left as you can get.

Both Bill and Whoopi made some rational arguments, and I think it may not have degraded to the point it did if Joy decided to interrupt their discussion with "I`M AN AMERICAN TOO!! HURRRR DURRR!."

Bill does has a tendency to talk over people, which requires someone debating him to have a cool demeanor and logical points to shut him down.

    See here.

(Yes, Colbert is a comedian but he uses satire and nails him on some key things.)

Now I`m gonna say something very suprising, so don`t blow your brains out.

You are not smart enough to make your own decisions. You are not smart enough to realize injustice when you see it. You are not capable of critical thinking and processing reason. And very clearly you are not capable of having a productive discussion or debate to come to a conclusion without having some form of discrimination coming into it. So shut up, sit down and let someone smarter than you make all the decisions. Everyone will be a lot happier this way...

Now if only the people making the decisions weren`t so stupid.

almightybob1 - I am well aware that those 3 are called the Abrahamic faiths, and why. Mohammed took stories from Judaism and Christianity (probably taught by one of his wifes or slaves) got them or had them already told to him all wrong. The Christian God had an only begotten son - Allah did not. The Christian God exists 3 "who`s" within one "what". 3 persons in ONE God. to a Muslim that is blasphamy (sp again, sorry). The Christian God makes adopted sons and daughters of His followers: Allah makes servants. When the Christian/Hebrew God annoints a prophet, he finds a man of high morality; someone (usually) poor. Allah went looking for a prophet and found a liar, a thief, a rapist, a CHILD rapist to boot, one with a murderous heart who spread Allahs word through military conquest, took spoils and left death and cruelty in his wake. Mohammed had a womans husband and father killed in front of them, then took her for his wife. He took a 6 year old girl as a wife, a

Dax - Sure, but look at the christian god. Here`s a guy who can make a man in a day. From that guy`s rib, he can make a woman. Doesn`t specify how long that took, so let`s say an afternoon. Fast-forward to Noah. Christian god really likes this cat. Doesn`t like anyone else, so he floods the earth, makes the poor guy`s family live in a boat with 2 of each other species, then has them repopulate the earth. Here`s the messed up parts:

    1. Mankind right now is capable of wiping out all life on earth in a really short time. Pretty sure an all-powerful, all-knowing god can do it better; more efficiently. Flood totally unnecessary. Jerk move.

    2. Christian god then makes all life on earth incestuous. Again. He can totally make a viable population in a few weeks. Gets his jollies on this, I guess.

    3. Don`t get on Christian god`s good side?

No, Christians, Jews, and Muslims do not believe in the same god. Christians acknowledge and follow in the belief of Jesus Christ and accept him as the messiah and savior of their souls from eternal damnation. Jews only believe in the God of Abraham and did not accept Jesus. In the Holy Bible that I read, you cannot accept GOD without accepting HIS son. A Muslims worship a a god based upon the principles of the firstborn son of Abraham-Ishmael who was bitter towards GOD for giving what he deemed his "promised land" to Issac instead. Although the religions are connected in some way, they are not the same. Oh and as far as the post, I think Bill O` Reilly is a class A douche, but I do agree that building a mosque on ground zero is although in Muslims rights as Americans but highly inappropriate and insensitive to the families of the 911 victims. Why do the muslims want to build one RIGHT there of all places? Isn`t NY big enough for them to build it elsewhere

Aha Cats, at last we`re getting somewhere! Been trying to get an answer for ages on how close was permittable. 3 blocks? 20 blocks? Manhattan? NYC? NY State? The USA? At last now we have some boundary conditions to work with!

So, 2 blocks is not OK, but 7 blocks is. Got it, thanks for that. Now (sorry, I have some questions):

    1) Where exactly between 2 and 7 blocks is the "Past here is OK line" (let`s call it the PHIOKL for short). Is it 3, 4, 5, or 6 blocks?

    2) Why is the outer boundary of the PHIOKL set at 7 blocks, why not higher? I`m sure you have some logic to apply here. 7 blocks seems significant.

    3) Why is the inner boundary of the PHIOKL set at (presumably somewhere >) 2 blocks? Again, show reasoning.

@davymid: The whole point is this: The builders of GZM wanted to be as close as physically possible in order to build a Victory Mosque. 2 blocks is as close as they could get.
    >>IF they wanted to build a "muslim friendship centre" they clould build it ANYWHERE and it would be just as useful.
    >>SO IF the builders REFUSE to even CONSIDER moving, which are they actually making? A friendship centre or a victory mosque?

(I present part one as "fact" as it is the opinion of those who oppose the GZM. I can already hear the liberals whineing "wee wee wee! it`s not a mosque!" DEAL WITH REALITY most people believe it IS. If it isn`t a mosque, HOW is this a religious freedm issue? Eh?)

dax2009: The details differ, but the God is the same. If you`re going to say that different characteristics = different god, then that means Baptists do not worship the same god as Anglicans, who do not worship the same god as Presbyterians, who do not worship the same god as Lutherans etc etc etc.

And to refute some of your other points:

God condoning the seizure and rape of virgin girls after pillaging a village (and murdering their husbands and fathers and brothers - disgusting behaviour, right?) - Numbers 31:17-18, Zechariah 14:2

    God allowing polygamy - Genesis 4:19, 2 Samuel 12:8, 1 Kings 11:3

So you don`t know your God that well after all - he HAS condoned many of the behaviours you find so despicable in the Koran.

And according to the Holy Trinity, God = Jesus. So yes, Jesus (=God) did.

Jews do NOT believe in Christ or Allah.
Christians do NOT believe in Allah.
Muslims may believe that all 3 Gods are the same, but that IN NO WAY proves that they are, in fact, the same entity.
That is why I said MUSLIMS believe this. Since Christians and Jews DO NOT. Okie?
And Jews don`t accept that Christians follow the same god, because they don`t believe that Christ (whom Christians believe in) was god.

But it still is true. From the outside, you all worship the same Abrahamic God/Yahweh/Allah.

Hey Bob, guess what? As an outsider, you don`t know as much about the religions as people inside them. So even if to the outside it looks like we`re worshipping the same god, on the inside it most definitely does not. Only Christians believe in the Trinity, which all other religions reject. That means we worship a different god.

Hey Mantolwen, your argument is falling on its face. Within the Trinity is Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and....GOD. It`s just different window dressings.

It`s like three kids comparing their bicycles, all of which are 21 speed Schwinns. One kid pipes up, "My bike isn`t the same cause I got a Slimer squeeze horn on my bike!" To which one of the other kids replies, "My bike is different cause it has a card on the wheel to make motorbike sounds." The third kids looks at the other two and says, "What the hell are you talking about? Dad bought us the same bikes at Costco!"

I was raised Catholic. I know what you believe in. You`re still wrong.

All three are called Abrahamic religions, because they all stem from the god Abraham worshipped. For Christians and Jews, he is father of the people of Israel through his son Isaac. For Muslims, he is a prophet of Islam and the ancestor of Mohammed through his other son Ishmael.
All three religions stem from the one god that Abraham worshipped. It doesn`t matter whether you call him Allah, Yahweh or God. It`s the same guy, as worshipped by Abraham.

zeebeedee, I am slightly curious about what prompted your spew of angry nationalist prejudice. I see no connection between my post and the one you made that you apparently think is a reply to mine.

    Are you a troll?

    Are you an idiot?

Did the person reading the posts for you give you false information?

Are you such a massive bigot that you only looked at my location, made something up from the prejudices seething in your deranged mind and deluded yourself into thinking I`d written it?

Enquiring minds want to know. But don`t strain yourself if replying would require a lot of effort on your part. Knowing what prompted your babble is like knowing exactly what type of bird is trilling outside my window - mildly interesting, but nothing of any importance.

As a very tentative and hopefully balanced contribution to this discussion:

Replacing the word "terrorist" with the word "muslim" will most likely increase the association of muslims as terrorists. And that, I think, has been a major contributor to what seems to be many americans` view of muslims. And I honestly think that it`s unfair.

It seems to be an increasingly outdated concept, both in the `states and in many countries in europe, but I firmly believe that diversification, understanding for one another`s beliefs and open minds makes a group stronger.

Let the mosque be built. Should, forgive my generalization, americans feel that it`s a "victory mosque" of "the enemy", build a church even closer. Or, even better, build something even grander on ground zero. See it as a gesture of "We will not give in!", a symbol for the undefeatability of western culture or whatever, and then leave it at that. Point mad

Just as there are radical islamist, there are radical Americans, and believe me, when that mosque is finished it will be burned to the ground within the year, and people will get hurt. If the Muslim community really cared about the safety of its people they would try to build it some where else. There were a lot of hate crimes after 9/11 and we don`t need to start that up again just because you have a piece of land near ground zero. Build it somewhere else.

Oh and my third and final point of the morning: politics has killed many more people than religion... and it slays me when atheists blame "religion" for war and greed and everything else and we`d be SO much better without it, as if "religion" wasn`t a man-made construct (per their own belief system). So assuming it`s a man-made construct, wouldn`t man just create some other excuse to lie, cheat, steal, and kill? I`ve always found that statement ridiculous (for OTHER reasons than it being completely false anyway). What we really need to get rid of is humans.

Let`s not get started on whether different rules make it a different god. As I said, that means that Baptists, Anglicans, Catholics etc etc are all worshipping different gods, because they all believe he has different rules.

Just as all Christians worship the same Christ, no matter what they all believe in his rules for salvation etc, you all worship the same Abrahamic god.

Sigh. Lets go over the lies... again.

    1) "The same God? Who has 3 different names."
Allah (The word Arab Christians use for God), and God (the word I happily use when speaking English).

    Wiki it:
Allah is the standard Arabic name for God. While the term is best known in the West for its use by Muslims as a reference to God, it is used by Arabs of all Abrahamic faiths, including Mizrahi Jews, Bahá`ís and Eastern Orthodox Christians, in reference to God.

I`ve already explained this to you. It is in plain English.

Furthermore, you can quite happily argue that they are different Gods, however that also means no Christian groups worship the same God, Jews don`t worship the same God as Christians, or as other types of Jews, and even individual Christians with *any* differing opinions on God/Jesus/etc.

    2) Distance. I`ll leave that to a Man called charlie Booker to explain:

Perhaps spatial reality functions differently on the other side of the Atlantic, but here in London, something that is "two minutes` walk and round a corner" from something else isn`t actually "in" the same place at all. I once had a poo in a pub about two minutes` walk from Buckingham Palace. I was not subsequently arrested and charged with crapping directly onto the Queen`s pillow. That`s how "distance" works in Britain.

    2) you can argue he has different properties. That`s fine.

drating hell 5 cats. So, if I forbid a YMCA from being built in an area by screaming: "CHRISTIANS ARE DOING IT AND THEY SHOULDN`T BECAUSE THEY ARE CHRISTIAN!"

It, according to you, *wouldn`t* be a religious freedom issue because it isn`t specifically a Church?

Secondly, what people believe, when it is idiocy, is not the same as "REALITY" which you felt the need to capitalize.

This is especially true of the GOP. Who are completely batpoo.

I`ve demonstrated before it isn`t a Mosque, any more than the one in the Pentagon.

I`ve stated before, your mind reading ability will not hold up in court unless it`s when we send you to the loony bin for your own safety.

All statements, associations, naming conventions, placements, compromises, changes, have all demonstrated the opposite. You don`t get to pick one and harp on about how "If they believed X, they`d do Y"

    Look, I`ll demonstrate.
I`d concede this argument if you give me a blowjob. If you don`t give me a blowjob, I`ll assume you aren`t doing so because you don`t believe it is correct.

Now, do I get to harp on about how "Clearly the lack of tongue by my nutsack demonstrates the correctness of my argument!"? No. That`s ridiculous.

    5) "a liar, a thief, a rapist, a CHILD rapist to boot, one with a murderous heart who spread Allahs word through military conquest, took spoils and left death and cruelty in his wake. Mohammed had a womans husband and father killed in front of them, then took her for his wife. He took a 6 year old girl as a wife, a and consummated the marriage when she was 10, still playing with her dolls. This still goes on the Muslim world. For THAT reason, even if it was ONLY that reason, I could never ever believe in Allah."

As I told you before, you instantly believe anything that is told to you in only one direction.

There is for example one source that says Aisha was 6. Every other source says she could not possibly have been below 15 as a mathematical minimum.

The rest has no more credibility than the implication that Jesus was gay because he "hung out with dudes all the time".

The polls are 70% against building the GZM, That`s called that a `Super Majority`.
    For comparison:
A 70% vote would pass a constitutional amendment in congress.
A 70% vote would override a presidential veto in congress.

Both of those are rare occasions because it`s very hard to get 70% of any large group of people to agree on anything. The vast majority of the American people do not want `Cordoba/Park 51` built there, If Rauf truly wanted to `Build bridges` he`d move it. Pissing off 70% of Americans makes Islam look pushy and unrepentant for 9/11.

Q1: If it isn`t a "mosque" Baalth, then why do they claim right of religious freedom? Them: those who are promoting the mosque, eh?
Q2: If it is supposed to improve relations between Islam and Americans, why make 70% of Americans angry, then refuse to make any concessions to placate their anger?
Answer to both questions: It`s a Victory Mosque.

    The same God?

    Yes.

    Who has 3 different names.

Hundreds, actually. In different languages. Because they`re different languages. Like Hebrew, English and Arabic. Are French-speaking Christians worshipping a different god because they call them `dieu`?

3 COMPLETELY different sets of Laws. 3 COMPLETELY different `paths to heaven`. Methods of forgiveness. Instructions for worship...

All of which are the religion, not the god. A very large part of the centuries of conflict between the religions is down to them worshipping the same god in different ways because that means each believes the others are doing it the wrong way, which can so very easily be seen as HERESY and an INSULT TO GOD. Much more so than infidels worshipping some other god(s), because they`re not CORRUPTING THE TRUE FAITH.

    It`s Judaism 1, Judaism 2 and Judaism 3.

To head off anyone who might be putting forward English-speaking Muslims saying `Allah` as a counter-argument to the "same god, different languages argument", I`ll post the counter-counter-argument in advance.

Arabic is the traditional language of Islam and has particular significance in Islam because the Koran is written in Arabic. As a result, it`s not uncommon for Muslims to use Arabic words for things of particular religious significance to them even if they`re not speaking Arabic.

Christians used Latin in the same way for centuries and Latin doesn`t have any theological significance in Christianity.

Muslims usually name their god in their native language anyway. God, allah, dieu, gott...if you believe in an omniscient deity you must believe they can understand whatever language you speak.

No idea why that is, but it is the truth. Nor would it be the same if it was colonized by left-handed people. What`s your point?

Point blank, for what ever reason countries that have a Muslim Majority just don`t do well for themselves.
Check out the economic explosion of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, where most of the world`s cranes are currently in operation building... pretty much everything. Saudi Arabia would be another fitting counter-example.

Western Society is predominantly Christian in origin and for *some* reason it has prospered while majority Muslim Countries are, as a very broad generalization, not as far along societally as western culture.

A huge proportion of Africa is Christian, yet the same cannot be said.

Dubai`s development has nothing do with islam, nor Africa`s poverty has anything to do with Christianity.
Yeah, that`s what I said. It`s far more about natural resources than religion. I think we`re both agreeing here.

Iran has some of the most beautiful churches in the world. The Saint Thaddeus Monastery near Maru and the Vank Cathedral in Isfahan are two stunning exampls, both older than your entire country. They treat religious buildings with respect.
So I agree, that`s exactly what you should do.

Even if it isn`t intended as a big "drat you" to the USA and a place to celebrate the biggest attacks on the infidels, it is perfectly suited to becoming so.

Imagine that you`re a fundamentalist Muslim who wants to impose Islam by force on everywhere and who sees the attacks on the USA as glorious holy war. A huge mosque and building dedicated to spreading Islam that overlooks the attack site...what better place for you to work and pray? What better symbol of your ongoing victory over your enemies?

The two main things I have seen in the comments (coming from the same people) on this site:

    #1: Defend the Islamic religion.
    #2: Bash religion in general.

haha not in that order though, and not saying that anything on the list is a bad thing either. Just my own little observation.

I said Jews and Christians do not worship Allah, and I still say so.
No semantical tricks posted here have offered one shred of disproof to my theory.
Jews do NOT worship Christ or Allah.
    Christians DO NOT worship Allah.
Muslims DO NOT worship Christ or the God of the Jews, they worship Allah!

So claiming the "God" of all three is IDENTICAL is pointless & stupid. Ask any Christian if Christ is the Son of Allah and they`ll say NO!

No semantical tricks posted here have offered one shred of disproof to my theory.

Your "theory" (actually a hypothesis) is solely semantics. You`re arguing that people who think they`re worshipping the same god aren`t because they use different languages to name that god, but it doesn`t count with some languages...actually, what are you arguing? I know what your hypothesis is (the Abrahamic religions worship different gods even though they think they`re the same god) but what argument do you have in favour of your hypothesis?

Ask any Christian if Christ is the Son of Allah and they`ll say NO!

Unless they know what `allah` actually means or have any knowledge of relevant history. You can`t cite common ignorance as proof you`re right.

    Simplified timeline:

Abraham: I`ve had a vision in which the truth was revealed to me. All the other religions are wrong, there`s only one god and this is how he wants us to live.

Moses: I`ve had a vision in which the truth was revealed to me. Here`s another big installment of how god wants us to live.

Jesus: I`ve had a vision in which the truth was revealed to me. We`ve drifted away from how god wants us to live, this is what he really meant.

Mohammed: I`ve had a vision in which the truth was revealed to me. We`ve drifted away from how god wants us to live, this is what he really meant.

Same god. Sure, the strange Christianity trinity/unity confusion muddies the water a lot, but it`s the same god in all three religions and in all of the numerous variants of them.

Why can`t we all just get along? The world would so much more peaceful if we all either A. were Buddhists (really, you never hear of a Buddhist war) or B. didn`t have any religion at all. I always thought that the world would be better with no religion, but when I shared this with my boyfriend, he said, "I do, too, but some people need something to believe in." which I agree with.

(the 0.01% being stubborn IABers, lolz!)

    Case remains closed.

Your interpretation of what Jesus said is WRONG! Just plain false! Do I have to quote John 14.6 again? No wonder you think they`re all 3 the same, you have no idea what Jesus taught! What`s that you said about ignorance... (I`m sure you actually do know, idk why you deliberatly muffed it).

You can make up whatever numbers you like, but they remain made up.

How many Christians are ignorant of other religions has no relevance to anything other than their own ignorance.

So the number you pulled out of the air is doubly irrelevant.

I`ve read John 14:6. I`ve just reread it because I didn`t see how it was relevant to this argument. I still don`t.

You`re arguing that Jesus didn`t worship the same god as Jews and didn`t preach that other people should worship that god...and you claim I`m ignorant of Christianity? That`s bizarre, truly bizarre.

I`ll see your John 14:6, which isn`t relevant to the argument of whether Jews and Christians worship the same god, and raise you Matthew 5:17-18, which most definitely is.

I like how you call statements of fact "semantical tricks". Also, I assume you`re using the colloquial meaning of "theory" here, meaning guess. Because it`s sure as hell not a real theory.

Do you even know what Allah means? It`s just the Arabic word for God.

Only Catholics worship Mary as the Mother of God, but Catholics are still Christians.
Similarly, only Christians worship Jesus as the son of God, but they are still worshipping the same Abrahamic God.

5Cats, do you realise the implications of the line of argument you`re taking here?

By using this populist tactic, what you`re saying is that the god is defined by what people think they know about him, as opposed to what he or she actually is. You`re essentially saying that humans define the characteristics of God.

Guys, it`s entirely possible for a LATER religion to co-opt the God(s) of an earlier one.
MY arguement, from the start, is that Christians and Jews do NOT worship the same "God" as the Muslims.
It is certian that Christians worship the same God as the Jews, idk why you bother mentioning it. However, the Jews do NOT worship the same God as the Christians, ok?
To say all three are "the same" is insulting to those earlier religions.
Until Jews and Christians are required to wipe their bums with their left hands ONLY or "God" will punish them, THEY DO NOT believe in nor worship the same "God" as the Muslims, obviously!
The "God" of the Christians doesn`t punish me for my bum wiping! lolz! IT`S A DIFFERENT GOD!

However, it irks me to no end that Muslims are attempting to infiltrate our society, co-opt what they like and impose dhimminitude (sp?) on the rest.
Stuff like "oh there`s no difference between Allah and Jehova" just gets my goat! It`s so wrong on so many levels!

It`s a semantic trick to suggest that because Allah means "God" and Jehova means "God" that Allah = Jehova. Hey @Angi! Vishnu is a "God" too, doesn`t that mean that Hindus worship the same "God" as the Muslims? Yeesh man! Get a grip.

Good catch Crakr, but I`m afraid this is entirely our fault. IAB is glitchy as you know, and the reposting of comments is a weird thing that happens at random times, usually when logging in to another machine in another location on the same account. It`s broken.

Users actually cannot possibly post the exact same comment twice in one thread... If you copy-pasta a previous comment, the code won`t allow you to post it again (try it for yourself). The reposting in this case is entirely a glitch.

Ah, I see. You have completely failed to understand what other people are saying.

`Vishnu` is the name of a specific god. That is not the same as different languages having different words with the same meaning.

You were arguing that Muslims must worship a different god because they use a different word. Although they frequently don`t - all the Muslims I`ve spoken with use the English word `god` nearly all the time because they`re speaking English.

That was your argument that was being countered by pointing out the obvious fact that different languages have different words for the same thing.

No, not OK. Think about it.

    Jews worship one god only.
    Christians worship one god only.

It is clearly impossible for Christians to worship the same one god as Jews but for Jews to worship a different god. That`s still impossible even if you argue that Jews worship two gods, because that would still entail Jews worshipping the same god as Christians (plus the other one). But Jews don`t worship two gods anyway.

Your argument makes no sense at all. It`s utterly impossible.

As I said long ago, you`re mistaking religion (the method of worshipping a god) with the god. Different religions, same god.

    There`s a door with a handle.

Davymid walks up to it and opens it with their right hand.
You walk up to it and open it with your elbow (you`re carrying something, whatever).

    But it`s the same door.

vv Now you`re just being silly.
We aren`t talking about the Actual God OK? THAT isn`t within our ability to control or change. Or even know for certainty.
    We`re talking about beliefs.
Jews believe in 1 God, Christians 1 and Muslims 1.
Muslims believe that their God is the same as the one worshiped by Jews and Christians.
But that doesn`t make it true, and it certianly doesn`t change the FACT that Christians do NOT believe it.
So your whole point is moot, your arguement semantic and you STILL have no concept of John 14.6. Jesus didn`t "have a vision" he IS GOD. Well, 1/3 of God, who is indivisible, um, or something. NO VISIONS involved! Except Mary and John the Baptist`s mom had visions... ugh!

It`s just the Arabic word for God." Again I ask, Do the Muslims then say "The Greeks had many Allahs?" No, because Allah is the specific name of the Islamic god. There is another word in Arabic (so I have been told) that is their word for a `generic` god.

I suspect you`re trolling, because the level of ignorance of Christianity that you`re showing is remarkably high even for a Christian.

Well the owl WAS funny, and I might have been wrong about dax`s precise argument (Or was it Angi`s? I`ll be the first to admit it`s gone beyond semantics at this point..) but having read significant portions of the Quaran, I`ve come across several passages detailing exactly the same events as those described in the bible (thought in a slightly different way), and they always seem to hold God as the same deity, over the same people - Adam and Eve, the Jews in their exodus from Egypt, you name it. In addition, it codifies a particular dogma regarding the sacrilege of putting "other gods beside God," including the Virgin Mary and even Jesus himself (as you must know).

Based on their wording (which I can`t recall at the moment) it seemed to imply that they only took this to be sacrilege because they held this SAME GOD to be sacrosanct in the first place. So maybe you were right. Or was it Angillion?

What i do want to comment, is that while discussing, remember that you`re talking to a fellow human. No matter how insanely stupid he/she might seem, we`re all in this "life" together.
