Actually there is a big article on this online. It`s in China in a circus, the lion jumps on the horse`s back while the trainer whips it to make it run, then the lion jumps down and a heavier tiger jumps on the horse has to keep running. All the animals are treated horribly. Later in the show the tiger is muzzled and pitted against an angry ox who stamps on the tiger while the tiger is all tied up. Great entertainment. BTW the lion weighs 30 stone, which equals 420 lbs and the tiger weighs 35 stone which equals 490 pounds. For a rule of thumb, a horse should carry about 20% of it`s body weight, a 1000 pound horse should carry around 200 pounds, or a 1000 pound horse can carry 300lbs for a "short" joy ride, not running around

What would make this truly awesome is about 10 feet ahead of them seeing a wildebeast riding a horse screaming, "hurry up he`s gaining!!"

Well thought out eskimo9..

If I see a horse with a lion on its back I won`t run, I`ll just face palm and accept the inevitable.

@MattPrince - "Like a lion needs a horse to.. Er what exactly?"

Well, when the horse chases you for however long you can run, and gets close, the lion can pounce, sprint and then tear your throat out, because it won`t be at all tired from running far.
That, and the shock factor will make most prey stop and poo themselves rather than run.

@Mikeado - I believe there was a raptor party in Fancy`s C: drive this week(end?).

the horse looks surprisingly unbothered by the lion. it`s lookin` pretty chill in fact. ears aren`t back, eyes are showing whites. it`s fine.

A lion riding a horse? My day is now complete.

Tomorrow I expect a lion riding a grizzly bear through a ring-o-fire. Wednesday needs a raptor or else I`ll be disappointed.

@ MattPrince:

i highly doubt having one lion in captivity is going to kill the lion`s majestic nature.

and let us not forget, this lion could have very well been BORN INTO CAPTIVITY. stick him in the wild and he may not survive.

did you ever go see the circus as a kid? did you see the lions? it`s the same principal. you can`t root for the circus and yet down this type of act. and i`ll say it again, both animals look well taken care of. i doubt they`re being abused or starved.

Of this quote
"this is disgusting..<snip>.This is a total disregard for animals especially majestic creatures like a lion."

Pyschegeek said

"your argument is ridiculous. these animals are way more than likely VERY well taken care of and have been very carefully trained.

i would much rather see this than see lions get poached in the wild.

so hush up. "

Sorry psychegeek, but wild belongs in the wild, put it in a cage and you`ve killed its wildness. Lessens the creature, lessens the watcher in my books.

This is no longer a lion, its now a toy for the small of brain.

@twigglepuff. I`ve seen other photos of this (I can`t remember where. The pic has been floating around the internet for a while) The trainer has a training crop for horses which does not hurt the horse. No trainer is going to beat a horse that has over come it`s natural fear of predators to allow a big cat on it`s back. That would take at least a year of training. Just because you see a "tool of persuasion" in a trainers hand doesn`t mean the animal is abused.

@ twigglepuff:

could you link the article? it`s not quite that i don`t believe you, but the horse`s coat is shiny and he doesn`t exactly look like he`s been beaten. neither does the lion. the worst thing about him looks to be his de-clawing.

where could we find the article?
