The good news is, they"re reading. The bad news is, they"re going to be very disappointed with reality.

This is horrible. New dating sites are going to have options like "I am a: charmingly awkward and highly relatable female, seeking a: vampire, between the ages of: 300-500 years old"

"""I personally find it more disturbing that in the last B & N I went into, there were about 4 aisles dedicated to religion compared to 1 dedicated to science.""

""That`s because you need credibility to write a book involving real science.""

"Also because there are more ways to practice religion than there are to study science."

also, most anyone is willing to talk about their opinion on religion, but many scientist have been ridiculed on what they hypothesized or theorized so dont publish until they have cold hard facts.

I feel bad for the men coming to age with these women. No one can be who these women are expecting.

@osteeng

I guess some people just prefer fiction to non-fiction nowadays...

I do NOT want to make this a US vs UK thing, but have you seen the differences in the covers between the US and UK versions of some of these books? The UK versions tend to be a bit classier, often with patterns, the US versions are more like the `Fabio with Fangs` pictures. (although both versions tend to go with the always classic "girl in tight hipster trousers, possibly carrying a weapon, but usually with a tramp stamp" look.)

The ironic thing about the caption that in the background, the books in the next section look to be World History books.

I have news for you Ollie. In 1930, that was one sexy vampire. In fact, you could say he`s pretty gay looking too. Hardly monstrous anyway. Total sex symbol. I`m sure there were plenty of people in the 1930s who whined that Bela Lugosi totally ruined the vampire myth by turning it into something sexy.

Oh stop whining. Last time vampires where non-sexualized demons was 1657 or so. The moment Lord Ruthven was written in the mid-1800s was the millisecond that vampires went from scary disgusting demons to sex objects. This was before Dracula was even written, nevermind Twilight. Heck, look back to the B-movies of the 1950s and 60s, ALL those vampires were essentially sexy rapists.

If they had an ADULT paranormal romance section, especially if it`s erotica, I`d read the crap out of it.

Actually I disagree with this "Sci-Fi for girls" analogy. The difference is nerdy guys are into that kind of stuff. The "hot 20 something nerd girls of the future" that Dixxy is referring too wouldn`t be caught dead reading this crap.

Meh, teens should just read fantasy books...instead of these...things. Most of them have a romance in them anyways, but the quality of writing is a heck of a lot better.

It`s the quarantine section of the book store, they keep it in one spot so the virulent strain of failure within them can be kept under tight watch.

"I fail to see the problem here. Yes, Twilight is stupid, blah blah blah.
BUT-- this is just like the SciFi section for teen girls. The teen girls who read these books now are going to be the hot 20-something nerd girls of the future. And we don`t want to deprive the future of that, now do we?"

they will always have chemistry and biology homework...

but seriously there is better romance in most regular Sci-Fi books than in these things...i`ve read (don`t anyone dare laugh) 1 or 2 of those "books" and they just suck...end of story...

Ya I work at my local Waterstones and the teens go crazy over that poo. There`s a dark romance section for adults too. Still mainly trash, although there are one or two half-decent ones there. Unfortunately they tend to be the ones over looked since they`re a bit more sophisticated.
