Ubfwins, yeah, laughing at kids who can`t read well isn`t funny, that is, unless you`re also a kid, then it`s called normal.

The lower class will always strive for a higher place but will never get it, because no matter what they accomplish, they can never escape what they were, who they are, which is not defined by external conditions. Likewise, the middle and upper class are also bound in place, because no matter what happens to them, they will maintain something that the lower class never had: dignity.

This applies to wealth in knowledge as well. Nevermind that people are naturally smarter than others, because the only thing you can do is come close to being their equal, but you can never be the same as they are.

No, it`s arrogance like yours that drives people to "pretend to be dumb" that or they didn`t grow up in an environment that allowed them to sit at home and enjoy reading, you pompous douche :)

Picking one grammar fail and missing the other makes you look dumb as well. He should have used "highly" and not "high" we well.

"That was a bit mean. Don`t you think?"

Not at all. I spent most of my youth reading books FAR more complicated than LOTR and never had an issue with finding them "Stupid and nerdy" because I actually was capable of understanding them. I remember the kids sitting beside me in English class having trouble reading the simplest books and laughing to myself. Its most commonly not a lack of ability to read. Its usually more like the thought of "Being smart isn`t cool, so I`m gonna pretend to be dumb." And that mentality is something I laugh at to this day, because its more and more obvious that its still true. In my high school days, we had movies and tv shows that made us think. Today, its all pop culture and cheap thrill. Instant gratification has become the soup du jour instead of expanding your brain and learning new things.

It is meant to refer to the rings of power, not the one ring.

Surely if Sauron had found the ring, he wouldn`t be asking for someone to claim it? As the person would think that Sauron had the ring? Made me laugh anyways.

LOTR isn`t necessarily nerdy, I agree that the series is one of the most important works of literature around. Bear in mind, though, that elves and wizards are not to the taste of everyone, irrespective of how vast and how well it`s done.

My guess is that it`s something like a Nuva Ring, which us ladies can use as a contraceptive. It`s a little rubbery ring that you stick up your cootchie until your period. When that`s over, you put a new one in. (and you can do the naughty while it`s in there, too)

Sorry for the possible TMI, btw.

@xavroche-I`ll agree with you about the whole movies-based-on-books part, but I have to admit...I tried reading the books, and I could barely get through the first chapters before giving up. Too complicated for my tastes.

"If it does have to do with LOTR... seriously, three 20 hour movies of nothing but walking?"

Actually it`s called a book. I know many people find it tough to read and favor watching things on a screen, but come on! It`s really annoying how when a movie comes out after and based on a book people act like when you are referencing the title you must be talking about the movie. LOTR is one of the greatest works of literature ever produced. While I love the movies, it should always be assumed that when someone talks about LOTR they are talking about books.

You don`t even have to be a book nerd to have read LOTR. It`s one of the most famous works of fiction there is. Reading LOTR isn`t nerdy, it`s entry-level participation in human civilisation and culture.
...nor is it a witty quip which demonstrates the cunning of the evil Sauron since there is no one to claim the ring since no one lost it in the first place
Your naïveté is refreshing. Greedy draters steal poo all the time by claiming it`s theirs.

You`re right that it`s not funny if it has to be explained, but honestly, I didn`t find it that funny to begin with (and I got the joke)

As for stretching out the joke "far beyond what a reasonable person would find funny, but, blinded by their own nerdyness, felt the urge to share their fantasy," try googling the phrase "nice try, Sauron." Just because you didn`t get the joke doesn`t mean many "reasonable" people didn`t. Besides, the Internet is full of nerds. You appear to be the exception to the rule.

@iamboredtooo Its a super nerd joke. It isn`t about the One Ring. There are lots of other rings, and this one looks like one of the elven rings which are hidden. So if this ring belongs to you, contact `Susanna` so that Sauron would know who has the elven rings.

But I agree, a joke which needs to be explained, isn`t very funny. I imagine this will only be funny to 1% of the I-A-B population.

So are you guys who "get it" saying that the person who made the hand-written comment is imagining that Sauron put up the message as he has a ring which he is trying to encourage someone to claim and wear, thus Sauron gains control over that individual, that it is a trap? If that is the situation which we`re to find humour in, it`s not remotely referential to the novels, nor is it a witty quip which demonstrates the cunning of the evil Sauron since there is no one to claim the ring since no one lost it in the first place...plus, it needed to be explained and jokes which need to be explained are not funny. Perhaps some LOTR fanboy saw the word "Ring" and geeked out into some fantasy world and stretched a joke out far beyond what a reasonable person would find funny, but, blinded by their own nerdyness, felt the urge to share their fantasy? poor nerd. still not funny.

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne,
In the land of Mordor where the shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them,
In the land of Mordor where the shadows lie.

Sauron helped the elven smiths make 16 of the rings of power (the 7 rings for the dwarves and 9 rings for the men.) He then went back to Mordor and made the One Ring. The 3 elven rings were made by Celebrimbor, the chief smith, without Sauron`s personal help. That`s why Sauron wasn`t able to corrupt the elves.

Male 2,670
Sauron tempted and ensnared many Kings of Men with rings of power. Those who Sauron thus enslaved became Ringwraiths.

So the joke is that Sauron is trying the same method with the `found ring` sign.

You may now laugh.

that doesnt make sense because if susan is sauron, sauron already found the ring. Reference fail

Didn`t any of you watch the damn movies let alone read the books??!

Sauron gifted 9 rings to the Dwarfen race, 6 rings to the race of Man, and 3 rings the the Elven race. But secretly made one for himself, the One ring, to control them all, and to the darkness bind them.

Geez Lousis, I`m bieng kind in give up an explanation for this.

Damn noobs...*walks off muttering*
