It`s funny! What`s with all the complaining.
It wouldn`t be funny with Oysters because anyone in England has heard of them.

The Octopus card is awesome. No fiddling for small change, no dumping more than required into the coin slot.

The rest of the world will catch up, some day.

AHAHAH Because England uses oysters as currency! I get it!

But in all seriousness, can we get a sort of tag, like NSFW, that just says "Humor required"? It seems to be taken for granted.

sidenote: My opinion may be slightly biased, as these sorts of pictures are just my kind of lol-worthy material.

"This isn`t that funny... it`s not a bad translation. That`s like saying "don`t go to England without your oysters..." See was that funny? Nope...."

Yes, Hong Kong`s smart cards for payment on the tube and also in shops. Quite convenient thing it is, bummer if you lose it though...especially if it automatically reloads from your credit card. As many said already, like the Oyster card in London.

My uncle lives in Hong Kong. When I visited there in Kindergarten they used those as subway passes, and when you would touch it to the little pad it would let you through the gate to get onto the subway.

In the UK they are called Oyster cards. Still a total bummer when you lose it.

Actually OCTOPUS is the name of the card we use for travel in Hong Kong for the buses, trams, ferries, underground... much like the UK`s OYSTER card. Not sure if it came out first in Hong Kong but Britain pretty copied that one off us anyway.

@dddoug I kind of wish they had those in other countries. It`s really convenient having one card used to pay for taxis, buses, minibuses, trains, ferries and other things like vending machines, McDonalds and 7-11`s. It would really boost people`s use of public transport.

I had (until my wallet was stolen) an Octopus card. It was pink and let me ride the train in Hong Kong. I miss my Octopus

Well, I don`t know about a whole Octopus, but I could insert a tentacle...

Or at least, I WOULD, if it wouldn`t result in an arrest for indecent exposure. And the potential for a torn... *shudder* Owww...
