JK Rowling`s Notes For The Potter Series [Pic]

Submitted by: fancylad 6 years ago in Entertainment

It"s the original hand-written plot points for the Harry Potter book series. She had everything planned far in advance.

This is magnificent. I`ve always structured my stories and essays and such. Believe it or not it allows for a more relaxed and natural writing session because you know where you`re heading, just fill in the blanks.

That aside, I LOVE JK ROWLING. She has the most fluid writing style of anyone I`ve ever read. And that`s important if you`re like me and have a short attention span.

Why is the picture sliced in the middle?

This pleases me because I use a similar design for my plot mapping before I write as well. Planning a story is better than just making poo up as it comes. Unless you have opiates.

this isn`t the plot for all 7 books, just Harry Potter and the Order of the Phonenix (5th book).

I wish I could read this! Looks like she could have benefited from a spreadsheet application.

Have no idea what that says. But what`s the problem with planning a plot in advance? Ain`t that how novels and movies are made?

Harry Potter was such a good series. When it ended it felt like I lost a dear friend.

I am not a big Harry Potter fan but I do appreciate how great her work is

She even seemed to put a lot of research and meaning into the names. If I recall correctly, a lot of the characters` names came from mythical/ancient people, or name meanings, that pretty much fit the characters` personalities.

alot of the names came from the graveyard next door to the tea shop she wrote the book in. "greyfriars" graveyard in edinburgh scotland. from the window u can see a mansion/fortress/school and also the edinburgh castle

We can like HP or not, but we all must acknowledge Rowling put real effort in her books. Some other writers should learn from her *coughMeyercough*

That`s how you write great long ass stories, you don`t just pull stuff out of your ass and make up as you go along

Hear ya Winter. I got to about series 4 before my "WTF" breaker tripped and the entire system shut down. So much potential overshadowed by an even greater amount of random.

This is how you make a series. Somebody should tell the Lost guys that.

Stephanie Meyer just wrote one draft, then put it through a computer thesaurus program, then hired someone to fix her horrid spelling and grammar (they didn`t do a good job btw).

I used to hate the harry potter series, but just a few weeks ago I found them buried in my basement, out of anything else to read, I grudgingly picked them up. Now I love em. Wierd.

@shappy- It`s a random glitch that happens from time to time. You can`t actually delete other people`s posts despite what the link says :(

Also this is pretty interesting, although half of it I can`t read. Handwriting is too small...

This isn`t for the whole series, just the 5th book (Order of the Phoenix). Things obviously changed between this outline and the final draft, which is why the titles of the chapters are different.

Since her handwriting is so illegible, a transcript of this sheet can be found here:

http://www.hp-lexicon.org/about/sources/jkr.com/jkr-com-tips.html#revision

That site also has transcripts of the other notes she`s released.

It looks more like her notes for the fifth book, Order of the Phoenix. You can see the names of the chapters, what date it happens on, and then what goes on in each one that has to do with the main plot points (the prophecy, Dumbledore`s Army, Cho/Ginny love triangle, Snape, and what Hagrid is up to). It`s fascinating really, and a good idea if you want to make sure everything adds up, and nothing important is forgotten.

unlike George Lucas, who just makes it up as he goes

it seems like it`s only for one book, i think it`s The order of the phoenix, not the whole series. it`s divided in dates and different sub-plots.
And if you`ve read the books there are some inconsistencies that make you think they weren`t written with much ahead planning

Rowling`s website has easter eggs of handwritten notes all over the place. Her penmanship is notoriously deplorable. This is the cleanest bit of her notes I`ve ever seen; not sure about its authenticity.

I know a lot of writers that start with the ending and work their way backwards. Or more often, start in the middle, write the end then fill it in. It looks cool but seriously, I can`t read 3/4 of this. I thought my handwriting was bad, but geez, if this is actually hers, it`s just chicken scratch. Doesn`t help that`s it so small.
