I don`t mind all the cars. He`s only gonna drive one at a time.

but I hate this peta-loving, eco-crazy attitude in California...

STOP telling us to use less. Population`s exploded so MAKE MORE dammit!

STOP telling me I can`t wash my gas guzzling SUV and build a damn de-salinization plant. Even if it does endanger a rare breed of mosquito!

STOP telling me I can`t smoke pot... I know that has nothing to do with this conversation but still...

I`m hyperventilating so I`m just gonna sit down and shut up .... for now

I own a library full of books- that doesn`t mean that I read them.

If anything i would consider that a form of diversified investment.

It`s also worth noting that he rents his properties out, buys carbon credits, donates millions of dollars to indisputably good causes, uses the properties to house development work for his films, many renewable energy sources on the premises such as localized windmills and solar panels.

It`s also not unusual to think about what he owns considering that he is one of the, if not the, highest grossing director(s), ever.

And even if he is a hypocrite that doesn`t mean his ideas are bad. I know plenty of non-hypocrites with poo ideas and i`m sure there have to be hypocrites with good ideas.

Proposition 23 has little to do with gaining actual jobs. It would retard the movement towards superior mechanical efficiency and alternative fuels. James Cameron can own a Chinese sex slave for all I care- Prop 23 is still bul

23 was a leading proposition that 12 other states were also in agreement to enact. But all the other states dropped out because it`s a bad idea in this economy.

Only california goes ahead ignoring reality.

but then, we have a history of that. Look at who`s governor.

Think about our Founding Fathers, they knew slavery was a bad institution but practiced it to a great extent because most of them were wealthy plantation owners. Abolishing slavery was not fought for because it would disunite the newly formed nation (it happens 200 years later).

Fossil Fuels will run out, but energy never will. I don`t know why people are always trying to "conserve energy". It`ll be around for a long time to come. The only advantage I can see might be a lower power bill. Leaving a light bulb on isn`t going to bring on "the end of energy" any sooner than it would happen naturally..if it will.

Hydroelectric power? That`s great, I see what you did there. But it`s not the point you were trying to make...
From your post, you said that energy never runs out, so you can leave your lights on all the time with no consequence. But since most of us get our electricity from fossil fuels (and not hydro power like yourself), your argument is wrong.
Energy as a general concept, won`t run out, that`s true. But the energy provided from fossil fuels WILL run out.

Good point Dixxy. I hadn`t thought of it that way. I didn`t realize how much of the world is still using fossil fuels for power..So everyone else should be conserving while those of us using hydro and wind and nuclear power don`t really have to worry about it. LOL.
One has to wonder why we are still using fossil fuels to generate electricity. All other sources (besides nuclear maybe), while having a higher initial cost, are renewable and cleaner.
I think that we should be pushing to eliminate fossil fuels as a source of power. It`s so dirty and wasteful.

vv Nuclear power may cost a lot at start, but it generates 15 TIMES more electricity than similar money`s worth of wind farms, and doesn`t stop working when it`s calm.

Everyone seems to be forgetting that wind farms NEED BACKUP POWER or they`re entirely useless. So you have 1 Gigawatt of wind power? Great! You also need 1 Gigawatt of non-wind, non-solar backup. Usually coal or natural gas.
Go green? I don`t think so.
Go nuclear! All the way baby!
(which is ironic since nuclear is the MOST green power, even cleaner than hydro, eh?)

    @Madest.

Prop 23 is actually seeking to strike down PREVIOUS legislation which mandates increase efficiency, etc. until the unemployment for California is below 5% for four consecutive quarters (NOT 12 consecutive months, on average for a year, etc.) Unemployment in California has been hovering between 10-12%

In the past similar mandates have not only been met but exceeded.

The existing legislation only fines people for not showing deliverable gains. For instance if GM doesn`t meet standard X but shows that they have technology in the pipeline that meets or exceeds X fines may not be levied or may be reduced. In this way California will be able to generate money from people not even trying, while increasing the efficiency of existing technologies which means less waste which means lower over head. This solves two problems for California, they make more money and spend less:

    Income - overhead = Surplus/Defecit

An all-of-the-above solution is the way to go. We don`t have the technology to replace oil/coal on a mass scale unless we go full-on nuclear, and that`s not going to happen unless we take away standing to sue from the environmental wingnuts.

To understate, the USA is the Saudi Arabia of coal and shale oil- we`re not going to run out of carbon based fuel for centuries to come. Humanity has gone from steam engines to the moon in 100 years; by the time we run out of fossil fuel, we`ll have found a replacement.

As far as global warming, I`m sure China and India would be happy to have us cripple our own economy by instituting cap and trade insanity (or maybe not since their #1 export market would dry up) while they go on merrily building fossil fuel and nuke based power plants. If global warming theory is right, we`re effed anyway w/o global cooperation, so why strangle ourselves with green legislation?
