Hear me people, Listen up... To all of you saying `it`s a waste of money` or `it`s not much use` Please pull your head outta your rear.

These pools help save lives! What can be more useful than that ? These pools help engineers design ships to withstand `Rogue Waves`. They are very dangerous at sea, Have sank many ships, Killed a lot of people. So understanding how to make ships that can withstand those forces is very important.

That`s actually kinda cool. Doesn`t do a lot of good when you`re *in* the pool, but it does make a nice show. I swear, only the Japanese would come up with it, though!

Not a whole lot of use for this invention. Besides maybe for an artistic one.

It`s made to study the phenomena of `Rogue Waves` like the ones in the movie `Perfect Storm`, and to help design ships that will be able to handle that sort of stress.

interesting, but pointless. then again, maybe someday for 20 Million dollars you can propose to your girl on the surface of Lake Erie.

"maybe this was ment for something important like stopping tsunamis or something, but the workers found it could make hearts"

Ummm dude, nothing like this could ever stop a tsunami. This moves the top layer of water. A tsunami moves everything from the ocean floor to the top layer.

It`s not pointless; it`s to see how waves and currents affect underwater oil pipelines

I agree with gary 8162- I marveled at the non-Japanese speaking Japanese, then spent the rest of it thinking "such a waste of a good swimming pool!"

The small one is an eye catcher for shopping malls and will be a commercial success.

The large one is actually a prototype for Japan`s next Olympic pool. After the games, we`ll hear them say: "Yes, we are awfully sorry that all your athletes drowned. But we are proud that Japan won gold, silver, and bronze in this contest!"

I`m surprised they didn`t shape the waves into a demonic monster f****** a uniformed school girl with a tentacle. Thankfully, they`ve made hundreds of movies containing exactly that scene! Thanks Japan!

I was more impressed with the non-japanese people speaking japanese than with the wave pool.

"We need 80 million dollars."

"What for?"

"We want to build an aquatic physics research facility."

"Um, okay. What exactly are you planning to gain from this research?"

"We will have the ability to make smiley faces and junk with waves."

"APPROVED."

The pool that generates the wave pulse is awesome for many experiments. The shape of the interference pattern is nice to look at. I don`t see how this is, in any possible way, useless at all.
If i were really bored i would build one like this at smaller scale.

Why is that a "useless invention"? Guess they built it for scientific reasons. Ever heard of "freak waves"? Looks like they are creating tiny ones in that pool...
