Why is that a "useless invention"? Guess they built it for scientific reasons. Ever heard of "freak waves"? Looks like they are creating tiny ones in that pool...

The pool that generates the wave pulse is awesome for many experiments. The shape of the interference pattern is nice to look at. I don`t see how this is, in any possible way, useless at all.
If i were really bored i would build one like this at smaller scale.

The small one is an eye catcher for shopping malls and will be a commercial success.

The large one is actually a prototype for Japan`s next Olympic pool. After the games, we`ll hear them say: "Yes, we are awfully sorry that all your athletes drowned. But we are proud that Japan won gold, silver, and bronze in this contest!"

Ummm dude, nothing like this could ever stop a tsunami. This moves the top layer of water. A tsunami moves everything from the ocean floor to the top layer.

Hear me people, Listen up... To all of you saying `it`s a waste of money` or `it`s not much use` Please pull your head outta your rear.

These pools help save lives! What can be more useful than that ? These pools help engineers design ships to withstand `Rogue Waves`. They are very dangerous at sea, Have sank many ships, Killed a lot of people. So understanding how to make ships that can withstand those forces is very important.
