Wait, it looks like a revamped version of the original...
The first section of DNF is very heavily based on the end of the 3rd section of DN3D, the final section in the original release (the 4th one was added later). That was deliberate, for nostalgia and to bridge the huge gap in time. In the game, it`s presented as not DNF per se but Duke at home playing DN3D. He finally found the time to play with himself.

The other 15 sections of DNF aren`t revamped versions of DN3D levels.
How long is it taking to make this game? Did I read 12 years in one of the comments?
More than that. Talk of a fourth Duke Nukem game started as soon as the third one (Duke Nukem 3D) came out in 1996. Duke Nukem Forever was confirmed in 1997 and 3DR proceeded to make an unbelievable bodge of its development. There was a trailer in 1998. Then another in 2001. Then nothing and more nothing. It wasn`t until maybe 2008 that they realised they`d somehow managed to spend almost all of their money (3DR had a *lot* of money from DN3D, Max Payne, etc, etc) on failing to make DNF and tried to actually get it done, which they failed to do before completely running out of money.

DNF might be released in 2011, 14 years after development officially started and 15 years after it was first talked about.
This is BS, the game was canceled when 3D Realms went under.
3D Realms hasn`t gone under completely, in that it still exists as a company and still owns IPs. Maybe they`ll make a comeback. Maybe not.

The game was never cancelled. Some of the DNF dev team, including Allen Blum, formed Triptych Games and continued developing DNF in their own time. Months later, Gearbox bought the Duke Nukem IP and hired Triptych to continue the work they`d been doing.

People thought it had been cancelled because nobody said anything. Silence is 3DR`s policy and has been for years.

Old, outdated, a bad version of better games, whatever. The game is full of Ash`s one-liners from Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, which makes it epic.

"This is BS, the game was canceled when 3D Realms went under. " - Nope. 2kGames agreed to carry it on, being developed by Gearbox

How long is it taking to make this game? Did I read 12 years in one of the comments? And all they had to show is him draining one one eyed monster, then shooting at another one eye monster. Duke Nukem must be like the Dr Dre of computer games.

Duke Nukem is a great part of history. Don`t ruin things by bringing him back.

Dont forget Duke was neverabout having the best graphics, sound or whatever, it was about having fun and it looks like they`ve stuck with that, taking it even further than before.

@thatjimguy it was shown at Firstlook, a game event in Holland, so the crowd isn`t there for (just) Duke Nukem

I don`t know who is more of a tool, the presenter or the crowd for being there in the first place. How long has it been since the Duke Nukem was in his prime...15 years? I doubt the crowd is made up of 30-40 year olds.

I wonder how much hard drive space that type of coding will use...regardless, the frequent cuts simply show that they aren`t even close to done. In other words, this is probably EXACTLY what they scrapped from 3DR`s 12 years of work. You can tell by the guys unfamiliarity with the controls/game.

So what I see, is an incoherent mess that they will have to piece together (and it probably won`t be done well or they`ll have to scrap it altogether) via awkward, doesn`t really flow for FPS techniques such as, an overworld map, copious amounts of cutscenes, or ridiculously easy boss fights/enemies. Predictable boss pattern is predictable, and he didn`t seem to do much other than be a hulking mass that occasionally hurts you. The player really didn`t seem sure about what he was doing there, lol he rocket suicided, so it`s potentially even more of a let down to gamers.

The AI seems halfway decent, but there isn`t really enough of it to tell. I`ll take a wait-n-see approach to

Too soon to call, but it looks like some old school gaming is gonna hold up with modern standards if they manage to get people to dick around and have a laugh, I`m still not expecting many reviews to rate over 80%
Rather than seeing Duke take a piss from too many beers or play Pictionary...shoulda focused way more on the blowing poo up
You can blow lots of stuff up in other games. Duke Nukem is for smut, toilet humour, macho boasting, messing about with stuff and blowing stuff up.

My favourite part of DN3D was the semi-hidden almost unreachable tiny cave in a cliff which had "How did you get here?" written on the rear wall only visible with night vision goggles. It`s all about the silly stuff. Taking a piss was a signature part of DN3D and I`m pleased to see it as the opener for the demo.
When is it out?
When it`s done.

A release *year* has been given, without any firm promises.

However...3DR had finally started to make the game as a game rather than as an ongoing hobby and when they ran out of money Triptych (the core DNF team from 3DR) carried on developing it from their homes. So it was actually being made for a change. Rumour has it that the game was almost complete when Gearbox bought the IP. Randy Pitchford has a clue, so he simply hired the people who had already been working on it and who hadn`t got jobs elsewhere, including all of Triptych. He also hired another team to do the PS3 port.

In short, it might actually come out next year. Seriously. The vapour is starting to look a little more solid.

I`ll wait and see how much the PC version is a PC version and not an Xbox360 version working on a PC, but it does look properly Duke Nukem.
