Same. I wouldn`t want to be forcibly trained to perform for stupid, laughing, clapping people either when I can be free to do my own thing. It`s a sad thought, really.

at all you bleeding hearts who feel sorry for the walrus:

stop your blubbering (no pun intended). do you have any idea how good this walrus has it?? getting fed fish for doing a couple simple tricks, getting loved on by the trainers and visitors, and is protected from the harm of boats, hunters, and other animals.

99% of the time, animal rights groups keep very, very close eyes on these types of places to make sure the animals aren`t being harmed.

so stop it, the walrus is fine.

Are people freaking out because he is doing THIS?

Guys, chill...If it really bothered the walrus that much he would just rip the trainers a new one. Have you ever seen an angry walrus? It is a scary sight, let me tell ya.

He`s doing things that he would do in nature...just with his own personal sound track. Consider what you would do for your own personal sound track and that many fans squeeing over you.

The walrus (Odobenus rosmarus) is a large flippered marine mammal with a discontinuous circumpolar distribution in the Arctic Ocean and sub-Arctic seas of the Northern Hemisphere. The walrus is the only living species in the Odobenidae family and Odobenus genus. It is subdivided into three subspecies: the Atlantic Walrus (O. rosmarus rosmarus) which lives in the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Walrus (O. rosmarus divergens) which lives in the Pacific Ocean, and O. rosmarus laptevi, which lives in the Laptev Sea.

The walrus is immediately recognized by its prominent tusks, whiskers and great bulk. Adult Pacific males can weigh up to 2,000 kilograms (4,400 lb) and, among pinnipeds, are exceeded in size only by the two species of elephant seals. It resides primarily in shallow oceanic shelf habitat, spending a significant proportion of its life on sea ice in pursuit of its preferred diet of benthic bivalve mollusks. It is a relatively long-lived, social animal and is considered

a keystone species in Arctic marine ecosystems.

The walrus has played a prominent role in the cultures of many indigenous Arctic peoples, who have hunted the walrus for its meat, fat, skin, tusks and bone. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, the walrus was the object of heavy commercial exploitation for blubber and ivory and its numbers declined rapidly. Its global population has since rebounded, though the Atlantic and Laptev populations remain fragmented and at historically depressed levels.

Risin` up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance, now I`m back on my feet
Just a walrus and his will to survive

So many times, it happens too fast
You change your passion for glory
Don`t lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

It`s the eye of the walrus, it`s the cream of the fight
Risin` up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
And he`s watchin` us all in the eye of the walrus

Face to face, out in the heat
    Hangin` tough, stayin` hungry
They stack the odds `til we take to the street
For we kill with the skill to survive

Risin` up, straight to the top
Have the guts, got the glory
Went the distance, now I`m not gonna stop
Just a man and his will to survive

The eye of the walrus(repeats out)...

    Oh no! How cruel!
I mean really. The poor walrus is given a constant food source and protection boats, hunters, and other predators! People can be such monsters! :`(

How dare they train this poor beast to do five situps in exchange for a few buckets of fish. Some people should just be taken out and shot. >-(

No walrus should ever be forced to be taken care of by trained professionals and be seen by adoring fans while living a life of relative leisure!

how is that mean? really? sure, it`s for the entertainment of the people. but really, no harm done. if the walrus hated to do this, he wouldn`t do it. simple as that. nobody is there with a whip, ready to strike if he gives up. get over it, people.

For all the animal activists here, just realize that he`s living the sweet life compared to the wild. Doesn`t have to hunt for food, isn`t chased by predators, and doesn`t have to worry about poo. Not to mention if he gets sick he gets the best care possible. drat. Besides, you know how dogs like to do tricks to please their masters? I`m sure it`s the same way here. This isn`t the drating circus were they torture their animals, they care about them.

I`d say one comment is enough. You have got to be kidding me if you think this is animal cruelty. Maybe we should let him out in the wild and film when he`s torn into a million pieces by a killer whale and you can cry then.
This lazy bastard is a social animal doing tricks for food and probably loving it (as much as a walrus can love it).
If you think a walrus understands human liberties and being able to `do what he wants` then you`re a drating moron.

I can understand if you don`t like whaat they do to the other animals, but just understand that walruses are very social and cooperative creatures. You just show them how to do tricks enough times and they do it. Plus, they get a controlled environment and free food. If you`re going to protest against animal "trainers", then don`t use walruses as an argument. they`re living the good life.

I find it kinda sad that humans think its very amusing when other animals are trained to act like humans. It`s like a dog training a human to drink out of a toilet bowl for its amusement.
