I had to watch it twice to see the actual MLK reference. Isn`t that enough to say that they aren`t using MLK to sell cars any more than they are using televisions or soccer stars?

Didn`t they learn that these doors sucked from the old Lambos?

MLK: fought for Civil Rights. MB: make Nazi-mobiles. Yeah, that`s a fair comparison. Especially since its all in the name of making a buck. Go Greed!
So are you saying you are 50% black...
What`s more racist than using MLK to sell cars? Saying "half black". It`s NEVER half white, always half black. Think about it.

They are just showing clips of people opening their arms. Some people just wish their was more racism then there really is. Lame post

It would`ve been funnier if someone used MLK Jr. to sell 22-inch rims and giant gold medallions.

Totally expected something really bad, or rather thought less, but they are just showing alot of historical footage to say that their car is going to be part of history. not tasteless at all. it`s marketing

Nah- totally legit. I wouldn`t say "tasteful" but it`s cool.

As a side note that is a beast of a car.

Reading the description I was expecting tacky. But they use a lot of old footage, and it`s not tacky. It`s just a commercial. Get over it.

@whocares--I know, that`s why I think all car commercials are tacky and annoying.

Also, how many people are going to open the doors on this car and smack themselves in the face? I think many.

Yeah that .5 second clip of MLK really pissed me off. NOT. That wasn`t bad at all its just like any other car commercial.

@Moosh FYI All car commercials try to insinuate that...

Female 3,598
how exactly did the USE martin luther king? did they also USE the other celebrities that they put in there? are you not allowed to depict important historical figures anymore? am i missing something about this?
0

Female 196
I think it`s tacky but just because it`s a car commercial that is trying to insinuate this car holds far more meaning than it actually does. I don`t care who`s in the ad.

Really? Trying to start a flame war over THAT? This is weaker than circus lemonade! Ok, you want trouble? Stop me if you`ve heard this one... What do you call a black man driving a Mercedes?

Tasteful.
It was half a second shot of MLK doing the same pose as everyone else in the video (arms up) to emphasize the way the doors on the car open and tying into a `eureka` or `I did it` (like the ad said) moment.

Not tacky. Sorry, but post better links if you`re trying to stir the pot.

Yeah, I`m not seeing the issue with MLK Jr. in there, he`s a powerful historical figure, and it fit well with everything they went for.
On the other hand, sweet car!

Nice to see a commercial which hasn`t got that "LOOK CONSUMERS WE`RE ALL SO VERY INDIE AND HIP" vibe.

You know, the ones with attractive young people running around in public doing something stupid like building a lifesize car out of lego bricks or chasing after brightly coloured objects.

Is it tacky? Maybe a little. Do you expect anything else from commercial-makers now? It`s a typical "look, these people are great, so are we" ad.

MLK is a very small part of a crappy advertising gimmick, there`s no drama to be had just better marketing required by Mercedes.
