First off Minecraft is a online world where you can build you own structures and there is some sort of game element due to undead(?) that will come to destroy your building.
It`s still under development and the graphics are very primitive, but the gameplay seems to be very addictive due to the way you can interact wth the environment.
I`m really looking forward to a stable version with somewhat updated graphics.

"He`ll probably be making more money than you later on in the future. So, since he`s done this in his spare time and later on will probably make more money...he`ll definitely get laid more than you."

He has a lisp and has enough free time to BUILD A PROCESSOR ON MINECRAFT!

He is not getting laid anytime soon.

uh no, he just took a circuit diagram for an ALU and built it in minecraft

@almightybob1: It`d be totally do-able to fit within 300 blocks if he were able to build it into a cubic shape.
too much jargon for a non-geek like me! i was so confused...so this thing just.......adds?
Essentially, yes.

But that`s essentially all that a basic computer processor does. You can do a lot with addition if you can do it fast enough. Subtraction, multiplication and division can be done using only addition, so it`s all covered.

Babbage invented a steam-powered mechanical computer in the 1830s. It was never built because it had many thousands of parts, was the size of a small warehouse and he kept improving the design while they were trying to build it. Initially, I thought this was going to be a working virtual model of it, which would have been seriously cool.

I jest but, I recognize a person following a path of self-teaching. Using the game engine is just giving him a way to express himself semi-physically.
I wonder what he`ll come up with when he has another moment of clarity.

It`s all about being in the correct place and time.

This guy didn`t really build a "computer" per se, he built an ALU, which is a component of a computer`s CPU (the part responsible for performing logical/mathematical operations on data). As he says in the video, there aren`t yet any registers or RAM, so it`s not *technically* a full computer (yet).

What makes you think he will be someone rich and succesful? Are you saying computer-smart people get rich and get laid? I don`t think so lmfao. You know there are millions of people who can do all that he does and more right? this kid just has no life and has time to place little blocks on a map, anyone could do it if they gave up their life.

Bob: "GODDAMMIT!!! THAT WAS $132000 IN RELAYS BUTTONS AND WIRE!!!"

Yes, it works. He demonstrated that by showing binary addition within the first few minutes of the video.

He sets the inputs to 2 (at 1:02) and 1 (at 1:13) by placing torches in specific locations (equivalent to a 1 bit).
He then tells it to add the two inputs (at 1:49), and shows the result (at 2:11) to be 11, which is binary for 3.

Man. All I`ve managed is a few AND gates and an 11-clock to make a flashing sign. This is ridiculous.

I doubt he`ll be able to build a completely functional computer though, because I`m sure I read that redstone will only operate correctly up to 300 blocks away, which gives him a limited area to use. He might not have room for the RAM etc.

What would be cool though would be if he could get it to run Minecraft... IN Minecraft.

Or you could stop being a prick and learn to appreciate intellectual things. This is, pretty much, what an intellectual, medieval group would have created if they attempted to make a computer; it has all of the components that it needs to calculate. It is really quite remarkable!

I get that he spent forever on this and it`s awesome and all, but I`m extremely distracted by his lisp(? or is it just an accent I`m not recognizing?). The 1:1 model of the Enterprise was more impressive imho. Mostly because I think it`s harder to build curves in a game only with blocks than to build a calculator within a bigger calculator.
