    I`ve seen conflicting statistics in a lot of books saying that there`s slightly more men or women on Earth. Presumably the number of women is slightly lower because of countries where baby girls are murdered to make room for baby boys, and sex worker trafficking. Obviously the numbers will never be completely equal but I`m guessing that`s what`s responsible for the 40 million gap between women and men.

    Actually, the lower birth rate of females has to do with the environmental changes. Changes in environments result in more XY chromosomes and less XX.
    40% of females are asexual regardless of their maternal desires.

    Oh yeah, and the world is overpopulated by 5,000,000 and continues to grow thanks for two births every death.

    And the pope wants you to have more unprotected sex?

    the earth is not overpopulated as far as the earth`s ability to provide.
    the overpopulation is because of governments inability to be anything but self serving: emergency aid to disaster areas - redistributed to summer villa`s and mistress`s. Food sent to drout areas - redirected to black markets and army warehouses.
    as for energy consumption - we all make our own choices.
    live; or not, as you want; or can.

    @ malefic: Already clicked it. That "sources" tab is pretty useless, as it doesn`t tell you what information it has gathered from what source.

    Thank you for your condescension.

    Considering that the U.S. Census Bureau will not complete all of it`s operations until sometime in October, it`s a given that any information this counter uses from the U.S. Census Bureau is ten years old.

    However, after doing a little poking around of my own, I have affirmed that my earlier suspicion is correct.

    Those abortion numbers are ridiculously high.

    yeah.. for the year total 98 million births and 30 million abortions? about 1 in 4? I highly doubt that. Maybe if you include other birth control methods.

    This is meant to look dramatic, while they may have some basis in fact i wont take it as any more than a rough estimate.

    vv By "abandon" goaliegerry means "abort" which might account for some of those large abortion numbers. The `liberal mind` cannot wrap itself around the idea of `gender selection abortions` which they wholeheartedly support...

    Remember, abortion is (very nearly) mandatory in China, which has over 1 billion people... kinda skews the numbers, eh?

    All the world`s oil will be gone by Saturday, August 15, 2048. Out of the available 1.2 trillion barrels, 807 billion barrels will be used for cars. Which is 15.7 trillion gallons of refined gasoline.
    Average MPG for passenger cars is 22.5, and there are 600 million cars in the world. 590 thousand miles of driving left for each car. We only get to drive 42 miles a day!

    So logically if we drive more than 42 miles in one day we ourselves are making Armageddon come closer. Not to mention the Oil Wars that should be breaking out around 2030.

    "This is obviously fake. It`s impossible to track the earth like that."

    It`s not meant to be real!!! - just a representation of what is happening on average. Basically the number of births for example have been recorded every year and this is used to make predictions on how many will be born this year and in subsequent years...

    Basically if the number of births in:
    2001 = 1000
    2002 = 2000
    2003 = 3000
    ...
    2009 = 9000

    Then you could PREDICT that 2010 = 10000

    Then it`sa simple case of dividing 10000/365 = roughly 24/ day

    So the counter will go up by one every hour

    Obviously this is over-simplified... This isn`t taking into account the calculus involved. I.e. the population growth is determined by the population to begin with. Lets call is 10%. So initially you start with 1000 people, it then goes up to 1100 (1000+10%), the next figure is calculated by 1100+10% = 1210.

    Basic principles

    "This is obviously fake. It`s impossible to track the earth like that."

    It`s called a AVERAGE, based on the sources they say that 414 people die by fire every day, so on AVERAGE a person dies that way every, like, 3.5mins i believe. and of course the data is from what has already happened, nobody can say for sure whats going to happen in the future.

    @PsychGeek - I`d say based on a combination of census data and trends over (50 years? 100? 5?) A lot of countries have thousands if not millions of people born without birth certificates (i think) so maybe not very accurate, but a good general idea.
