These are all true to some degree except for the last two. I`ve never seen an occasion when someone was laying on the ground. That`s something for TV drama, I think. The deep bow one is funny though. I think only women do it like that. A guy would just bow low. It depends on the situation mostly. I think a foreigner who stays in Japan long enough would just pick up when and how to bow. Apologies, though, must always come with bowing that is the one sure fire rule. Japanese people don`t take your apologies as sincere if you don`t bow.

LOL all but the last are real. You`d be surprised how many people will take it really traditional and bow for all the different appropriate ocassions.

Yes, the majority of these are correct. For women, however, hands are to be placed in a prayer-like pose slightly above bust level.
I was a foreign exchange student last year.. got a lot of rude looks until I learned all the customs.

"I would NEVER give permission to stop. Just, take it as far as possible."
This is why in America, nobody bows down to apologize.

The deep bow one was hilarious, it was like he was doing one of those anime cosplay girls, or he needed the toilet.

Although this is done tongue-in-cheek, a bit of truth about the Japanese culture leeks in.

Used when "yours is the only child to make the grade" for example.

The Western mind says to show off when you are excellent is fun and even encouraged. Where as there; "the nail that sticks up, gets pounded down" as it were.

"Japanese Tradition" vids are jokes, mostly around misconception of Japanese culture. The funniest one is "How to Eat Sushi," which you can find on YouTube.

Actually, most of those are pretty accurate. Not quite sure how to accomplish that last one, tho. You might be better off committing seppuku at that point. the word "gomen" is probably better for the first, then gomenasai or sumimasen interchangeably, then gomen kudesai for most formal expressions of apology, roughly speaking.

`predominantly used by ninja`

ok... could you just paste a big "FAKE" sign right there?

Well, ninja did exist in a place called Japan not to long ago.

I do believe this is a gag, but in general these bows seem accurate, if a little exaggerated. Typically the second bow in the list is used by women, hands together on the thighs, I believe it`s a show of modesty as well as respect/apology.

Bowing can be either a greeting or an apology to my knowledge, though generally the situation would make the context of the bow clear.

Now im curious about what is the norm of accepting an apology :P

Do japanese cultured people on the offended side have awkward moments after being appologized to?

To properly do a "Deep Bow" hold your dong like a five year old who has to pee really really bad then lean over.
