Home Depot = poor customer service, higher prices, and if you need something **RIGHT NOW** they are always out of stock.

Lowes = better inventory, slightly lower prices, and people who actually care enough to work and help you.

Home Depot is magical. It`s somewhere you spend hours without intending to.

I remember being a kid in there... that place was HUUUUUUGE to me then.

Also: Home Depot has hot dogs. win.

Well I actually work at Menards, a midwest local hardware store and for prices Menards beats them both hands down, everyone in my area is always complementing us on our prices. "Guest" service however fluctuates, from store to store it depends on the management and HR coordinator. If you have a crappy GM and HR coordinator then that store will be worse. However at the store that I work at their are people that know things and people that don`t it all depends on your luck.

I`ve never actually liked Home Depot because they`re way to big and I`m crap at finding stuff...especially an employee to assist me. But, I did think it was cool when they employed athletes training for the Olympics and paid them full-time wages while giving them a chance to do their regular training regiment.

have you noticed though...wherever there is a Lowes store, a wal-mart is not so far away. for the longest time we thought they had like a corporate deal or something

anyway...lowes is a better quality store. thier employees are usually much more knowledgable and helpful. and they tend to rake in the intrest of both sexes and all ages. lots of holiday decor, and plants along with home stuff. the home depo sucks, they just work there man.

For two companies that are so closely related, I would have thought that one would be the McDonald`s to the other`s Burger King (i.e., one enormous success compared to one moderate success)
But in reality, they are very comparable.

@crabcakes it is not more expensive because of the 10% guarantee, also, we may be irritating with every single associate asking "hi, how are you" "can I help you find anything" but we have no choice, I`ve seen people get written up for walking by someone and not saying anything, it`s not our fault, we know it`s annoying but if we want a job we have to do what mgmt tells us.
@zmeace helloooo from 6217.lol.did you guys bonus?

well, seeing as how i`ve worked for THD for the past 2.5 years I may be a little biased but I think HD is [email protected] beccab86,I`m almost strictly returns, and it is not possibile to return something that is in the system. We will look for it and send people to find it, but if we don`t carry it, there is not a way to return it.
@tylertooo & ryan74 lowe`s doesn`t have better prices, because we have the 10% price guarentee where if it is cheaper in any store, we meet it and beat it by 10% and because of trying to get our customer service up, we just do it. I`m not really allowed to say too much but cashiers have a certain empowerment where no questions can be asked.

Could anyone please explain to me how Lowe`s has 7 million more customers per week spending only $6 less than the average customer at Home Depot spending $55, but their revenue is almost $20 billion less than Home Depot`s?

Oh, and one of the salespeople at Lowe`s even helped me by drawing out a schematic for the cage base. We had like a 20 minute conversation about how I could do it easily with what I had already bought. It was awesome.

I went to Home Depot to build a big cage for my chinchilla and the whole time the salesmen were telling me all these sites and resale places to go to. They literally would not help me find what I needed on their own. I didn`t even bother asking for help and explain to them I wanted to build it myself.

I went to Lowe`s for everything and every single thing I bought was cheaper than in HD even though HD has a 10% lower price guarantee and these two stores were almost abutting. In a short amount of time, I became recognized by the staff and even the vendors there and everyone asked me how the cage was coming along each visit. I love Lowe`s.

Could just be those stores, but either way, Lowe`s was always cheaper and you can order online and pick up lumber at the store. And even HD didn`t have the cage wire I needed.

Home Depot:
•More expensive
•Irritating sales people (Like JESUS I want to punch these draters square in the jaw whenever I`m forced to rely on them.)
•Broader selection
•Associates tend to be very knowledgable on a variety of home improvement areas.

Lowes:
•Cheaper
•Helpful sales people
•Good luck finding things (they seriously had NO metric machine screws when I went in there. Not just none of the size I was looking for, but NONE AT ALL.)
•Not very knowledgable (At least 2 out of 3 people working in the plumbing area had no idea how to braze copper pipes together, and one could only associate flux with "Back to the Future")

I wasn`t out comparing but doing a plumbing job for a friend, we had to go to both stores. Thats when I noticed that Lowe`s had a lot of attractive women in the store and that it was well lit, bright and cheery. Then we went to "Homo-Depot" as my friend referred to it as and found it dark, not one woman and when we were going to checkout there was no one at the registers, just auto check-outs. I thought if I`m going to a giant vending machine, I`ll just buy on line. Now I always go to Lowe`s and always see hot house wives and I always give them plumbing advice when I see them in the plumbing section.

I work for lowes and the reason we have such high customer satisfaction rates because the company only focuses on customer satisfaction. Which sounds good, until you`re getting verbally abused by a douchey customer (those do exist) and you have to just sit back and take it or risk being fired. In fact, the more douchey they are, the bigger discount they get on their purchases.

Furthermore, a higher average sale does not necessarily mean that Home Depot customers buy more per visit, but spend more. They could be buying less at a higher price.

I-IS-Bored...read what I wrote again. I know what avg. sale per customer means, I managed retail before I started my businesses.

What I am talking about is the relationship between the average sale, the number of customers, and the total revenue of the businesses.

A low average sale with a higher volume of customers is still netting Lowe`s a lower revenue than Home Depot, which has a lower volume of customers (according to this graph), but a marginally higher average sale.

It doesn`t add up. Which means Lowe`s either has issues pricing lower than Home Depot, or that Home Depot has lower costs.

This could be from a more streamlined delivery process, or better suppliers, or the fact that Lowe`s pays it`s ceo`s and other employees more.

meh, whichever`s closest. I like Home Depot`s Rigid and Husky brands, but Lowe`s generally has better prices and awesome deals...

avg sale size doesn`t indicate the cost of the product, home depot being higher just means customers of home depot buy more in a visit

I`m with Jimbro. Lowe`s isn`t worth the extra 18 minute drive, especially when I`m working on a project at the house, I just want to get it done. That said, I really like Lowe`s Kobalt brand of tools, I would put them on par with Crafstman.

From the average sale/customer count/total revenue relationship, it looks like Lowe`s is charging lower prices though, which is strange because everything I`ve ever priced has been comparable.

I visit a number of different Home Depot`s and Lowe`s for my job. Home Depot always smells like wood shavings, and Lowe`s always seems to have a cleaner atmosphere to it. Lowe`s doesn`t always have as large of a selection as Home Depot, but what they have is higher quality if you can get it. Just a give and take on both ends.

Personally I go to whoever has the best price on the day I need something, but I know a guy who works at Home Depot. Did you know, they take pretty much anything back at the returns desk, even if they don`t actually sell that item (tires in the story he told us) just so they don`t piss any potential customers off?

True story.

If you noticed.. there are A LOT more Home Depot stores in the world then Lowes. I think that if Ther were an equal amount.. Lowes` revenue might probably top Home Depot`s.

This infographic, from the very outset, pissed me off by using the word "billions" to refer to revenue.

In that context, you would say $66.2 BILLION, not billions.

Plus, who the f*ck gives one sh*t about any of this information?

Overall, dumb as hell and pointless.
