You want to see high resolution- check out Life In the Undergrowth. I have NEVER seen insects that close before. The magnification power of the lenses they use is outstanding.

You can get a camera with that kind of resolution anywhere...it`s just a matter of knowing WTF you`re doing. Just because you have a DSLR, does NOT make you a professional. I`ve known plenty of pro photographers that just use a PNS anyhow.

I do these kind of pictures... SLR with Macro for most of them. And a few of them are very heavy close-ups, so it`s either lens reversal or (in my case) a Canon MP-E 65mm that allows to go from 1x to 5x zoom and do ridiculous pictures. There`s a major requirement for light at any kind of zoom. So add up a macro ring flash.

Other than a little color correction, these photos are all (or could be) just how they were shot.

And for the really small scale stuff, it`s not extension tubes, you just take you lens off and reverse it, commonly called "micro" photography rather than "macro". You can hand-hold you lens like this, but they make filters that screw on to the lens that allow the lens to mount backwards.

It`s a lot of fun to play with.

or by just getting a macro lens

you can actually get that effect with any SLR camera by reversing the lens, either by hand or with a reverse lens adapter.

Camera resolution is the first step. It`s all the adjustments in photoshop that makes these photos so different. Personally, I enjoy natural photographs.
