Nicholicious - "Wow, heterosexuals sure do love their sanctity of marriage, huh?"

When I say sanctity of marriage I mean all forms of marriage - civil, religious or otherwise (common law -different from civil). I`m Pagan in beliefs myself but I believe in the freedom of religion but with the added mind set of as long as it does not encroach on the rights and freedoms of the other people around me. I don`t shove my beliefs down others throats, they give that same respect back with theirs.

Sometimes it works. I`ve been with my husband for almost 12 years. We met at his sister`s wedding, got together that October, moved in that December, got pregnant that February and the rest is history (1999). We get along great, yes we have our tiffs, our disagreements and what not but that`s maybe .9% of our relationship - 99% of the time life is pretty good. We even have 5 kids too. Call me old fashioned I suppose but I believe in the divine sanctity of marriage.

Marriage should be considered like a business contract now a days... cause let`s face it when it`s over most people are better off declaring bankruptcy rather then clawing there way back to rock bottom

I want to see the comments after that comment to see if she is dumb or it`s just stupidity in a group of people aka if she was lost anyway

Awww - does she list Brittany Spiers as one of her role models? Gotta love Vegas weddings, and I hear Reno does a damn good line in divorces too!

I got married in 2008. I met my girl in 1999.

Thus the average heterosexual in your sample size now waits 4.5 years.

Once a girl asked me to do that. I thought she was joking but she was completely serious. I didn`t see her again after that, we had only been on 2 or 3 dates. Creepy.

"What`s the problem? The marriage you have in Vegas stays in Vegas... right?"

I`ve been to vegas four times... got married there thrice... just kind of ignore it afterwards, divorces just seems like a lot of paperwork... I think there`s a legal understanding that if it happens in Vegas it`s just not a big deal...

well at least it isn`t a 17 year old girl with a child who JUST broke up with the father of her baby, and now, a week later, is engaged(through facebook) to some dude who calls himself a "blood" (gang) and his photos consist of him flexing his muscles, or him next to or drinking some type of alcohol. Now she has pictures on her facebook of him holding her child. WHY MUST PEOPLE BE SO RETARDED? Even the ones you love the most...

well i am SO glad I ended our friendship for good. her maturity level is in the negatives.

My finance and I joked about getting married there. Ended up just drinking and whatnot. Still maybe I`d get married there just so I don`t have to invite his mom to a wedding. :3

It is true sometimes you find the right person and you marry them very soon, but I don`t think you`d propose to your one and only in a city where there are more hookers than neon lights.

"my parents got married 3 months after they met....they just had their 36th anniversary."

Thats the exception. Not the rule. And people wonder why the divorce rate is so high. If youre going to be married forever, what`s the problem with waiting a little while to actually get to know the only person you will be involved with the rest of your life?

My then boyfriend and I helped my friend and his friend meet on a blind date. Barely 2 months later they got married. This Dec will be 16 yrs for them and they are still going strong.
As for the annulment issue actually even if it has been consummated an annulment can be granted under certain conditions. Case in point Kenny Chesney and Renee Zellweger..married four months and you know good and well it was consummated but she was still granted and annulment based on fraud.

I knew my husband for a total of 4 months when we got married. He came back from Iraq in October, met me two weeks later, and then we got married in February. We have been married 3 1/2 years and still going strong.

I find it sad that this woman can marry somebody she`s been dating for two months and if they get divorced nobody will squawk about it. If two dedicated men or women who have been dating for years want to get married, though, "Oh, no, it`ll destroy the sanctity of marriage!"

And auburnjunky, you can always lie.

tell that to the millions of gay couples who want to be married but can`t do so due to archaic, homophobic laws.

Pui true true, there are always special circumstances but for our gen there are no real consequences for getting divorced, its so easy these days. I`m not saying its a bad thing.

Pui is right I`ve known people like that myself, and i`ve also seen the opposite where 2 people have dated for years, get married and are divorced in a month.

And for the people saying that this discredits the sanctity of marriage, I think it is worse to live with a bf or gf for years without ever getting married than to make the commitment and take a chance like this couple.

Poo, I`ve been together with my girlfriend for two and a half years. We`re not considering marriage until at least another three years.

I guess people are all different.

@AmberCherry well my parents got married when they were 19 and had me when they were 20. They got divorced 11 years later (Daddy is gay lol) sooo idk either way there is no way to predict where each and every relationship will end up depending on their age or how fast their relationship developed.

My girl and I have been together for 2 months. We`re both divorcees, so we`re really not thinking about marriage anytime soon but we`ve already been discussing having kids (neither of us is gonna get any younger and we`re both nearly 30), and getting an apartment together. Our relationship has been moving rather quickly, but sometimes those kind of relationships work out simply because you get past all the nonsense early on and just focus on what matters.

Though I DO agree that in most circumstances it can lead to an absolute disaster down the road.

These kind of arrangements always make me worry. Its probably because they are waiting to have sex when they are married, and couldn`t wait any longer...seen it a hundred times with mormon friends. Pui, its probably a baby boomer thing, because my parents have been together for 35 years and they married in their teens, our generation won`t likely be as successful.

Heck my husband and I were locking lips and crawling all over each other less than a week after we met. We`ve been married 2 1/2 years so far.

Some people click faster than others.

Eh, idk. I read a story in the paper about a couple that met in Las Vegas, spent a week together and decided to get married. They are still together today, 30 years later. You shouldn`t discredit a relationship simply because it moves fast, although I will agree that 90% of the time that is a recipe for disaster.
