Two Godly retributions in one day? As pooptart pointed out: God must be a d*ck.

It is sad when a very smart person dies....we have so few..

Too bad. So sad.

It`s not happening because he`s an non-nice individual... because if you get cancer for being an non-nice individual every single one of them on earth would be stricken with cancer. He has it because he`s an unfortunate human fleshbag vulnerable to all diseases and cancers.

awwww...yeah, I didn`t care; just bc he`s dying does not mean anything. it`s not symbolic, it`s not "justice", it`s not ironic, nor is it even news worthy. he`s not asking or participating in the prayer thingie for him, so this really does not mean anything.

"Theoretically, an atheist - if they have a consistent reality - should fear death much less than a theist because they believe it is normal."

So does that mean those that believe in God find death, abnormal?

He gave the most wonderful comment- he was being interviewed and pointed out he had not helped by his lifestlye- too much drinking smoking and burning the candle at both ends. The interviewer asked what he thought about that now, his reply was ` well- it gave a lovely light`. May he go to his end with grace and dignity and no pain.

I think cancer is a nondemoninational disease.

I do believe everyone can get cancer.

@mantolwen

I think you have it backwards or at least do not understand that release from the fear of death that faith brings. Those that truly believe they are going to heaven, or whatever place their religion believes in do not fear death because they believe it to be a doorway to the next existence.

think I am wrong? Ask a suicide bomber what will happen to them after the go KA-BOOM. Then ask them if they fear death one little bit.

If an atheist gets a terminal disease, he has to accept it. After all, there`s no such thing as God, and disease and death are natural and expected. Theoretically, an atheist - if they have a consistent reality - should fear death much less than a theist because they believe it is normal.

Too bad for his disease. Although he sounds like an non-nice individual, atheist or not. I don`t care.

I`m with you Speelz. I`m not going to find answers to the afterlife (or lack of) by being preached to, and paying money to others. I will find out what happens when I die, when I die.

BTW- nothing against believers, believers by and large founded this country. Some do real Charity work (mother Teresa), but plenty more are just content to sit on their high horse and pass judgment on everyone not in their club (speaking from experience here). I`m not anti religious, it`s just not for me.

I personally have great respect for this man, as he is definitely the greatest trolls of the modern age. I love how he freely admits that it`s his "own damn fault". Hoping the guy recovers, but not praying.

That`s awesome that a belief in an afterlife helps you come to terms with the mortality, YoungOola. Just don`t assume that it is a pre-requisite. I`ve come to terms with death by learning to appreciate the beauty in the life cycle. I`m content waiting until I die to find out what happens when I do.
I think it`s official, I-A-B has a super right-wing agenda.
IAB has one agenda - to relieve boredom.
Those that are running things behind the scenes must be a bunch of tea party members and rednecks
Excuse me while I laugh.
We have mods from around the globe and across the spectrum. Some are left, some are right. Some are Christian, some are atheist, one is Muslim.
Plus, when we approve links, we approve them on the following criteria:
Is it interesting?
especially if you consider the number of typos and bad links that permeate the website at this point.
This is sometimes a problem, but just as common with our left-leaning mods as our right-leaning ones. Everyone can make mistakes.
I am so done with this site.
Well with 29 posts and exactly 0 content submissions, it`s safe to say you`ve made precisely bugger-all impact here, and will not be missed.

I don`t have to be sad about my own death. I believe in an afterlife.

...also, don`t call atheism a faith. That`s rude to both parties.

Faux news, trying to blind side anyone who is not with them yet again. But to be fair, Hitchens smokes and drinks like drating crazy, this is not much of a surprise.

"Well it looks like someone "fixed" this... what did it used to say?"

Something like "is Obama the anti-christ?"

From the Article:
"For some of his critics, it might be satisfying to see a man who has made a career of skewering organized religion switch sides near the end of his life and pray silently for help fighting a ravaging disease."

What the hell is this? He`s not praying at all. Like Charles Darwin, he`s an atheist through and through, and will not renounce his faith on his deathbed.

Holy poo!! An alcoholic who used to smoke constantly is dying of esophageal cancer. I`m sure it`s because he`s an atheist and not exhibit A in how to drat up your health.

Nuki.. I am fairly new here(as registered user, old as a passive user) but I seen a ton of religion bashing, right wing/left wing bashing and silliness all around. Seems to lean to the liberal/atheist tone if there is a lean. Which I am one and not the other but not even half offended.

Hmmmm.

Actually nunki, I`ve found I.A.B. to lean more toward a Liberal stand point, without going as far as hugging trees.

With the odd exception of a few nuts, most folks have lively debates, with some well made points on both sides, and then move on.

I quite like it here...

nunki: I can assure you that`s not the case. If anything IAB leans left of center.

I will agree that things seem to be approved to begin flame wars, But that`s nothing new.
