Wait, are Canadians saying that their children are better than American kids? Canada, you have some explaining to do.

Natural selection doesn`t work as well in Canada. They have to give it an extra 6 months.

Kinda like drinking in CAN/USA... seems like we get to have fun at a younger age.

Canadian children are entitled to half a year more fun than their US counterparts. It`s in their constitution.

Don`t bother looking, it`s there trust me.
Obviously it`s some sort of consumer safety requirement that is different in the US than it is in Canada. But what I can`t understand is why they don`t just go with the country it is in. Is it directly on the border?
Maybe it moves - could be part of some kind of travelling funfair.

What kind of weapon is it? I want more than *military*.[/quote">

Why care, unless you`re planning to invade Switzerland and want to know what to plan for?

My point is that the weapons are held by soldiers under military discipline, as opposed to civilians. It doesn`t matter what the weapon is, because the point in question was the degree of gun control. In Switzerland, the gun belongs to the army, the bullets belong to the army, the bullets are in a sealed container and subject to examination for tampering.

Apparently the standard gun is a SIG SG 550.

It`s got nothing to do with the metric system. It`s only because that playground is designed to a certain safety requirement. Canadian safety advisories are more lenient, so they would allow younger children onto the equipment, whereas US advisors require higher levels of safety for younger children.

Don`t blame the metric system... blame the fact that you can`t have any fun in the US because some retard s going to sue you for any damn reason they can think of. that poo doesnt happen in Canada

@adam432823: The metric system is a system of measuring distance, mass, and volume, not time. A solar year is 365 days no matter what.
Angilion, correct me if I`m wrong but doesn`t every male in Switzerland have to serve in the army for so many years then get to keep his gun.
It`s one year with compulsory annual training afterwards and the gun is at home. Swiss men are also forbidden to leave Switzerland for periods of more than a few months without formal permission from the army.

This lack of freedom is, of course, completely sexist as well.
Given, these aren`t hand guns and I don`t know about their gun control, but that makes it sound like their guns per capita would be pretty high.
The gun in every home is a *military* weapon, to be used only if Switzerland goes to war. It isn`t a personal weapon. You can`t just use it as you please - the ammunition must be accounted for. Military discipline applies.

High guns per capita, yes, but not with "relatively little control".

Well. first off.
It wasnt a Canadian who wrote that. If you would pay a little more attention and learn the states of America you would notice that it was an American who wrote it. It was marketed by a company in Washington. you know the state under the province of British Columbia. pull out an atlas or use the idiot proof google..
Uh, shadow, total stats mean nothing. The US is #1 in tons of mortality stats, but that`s because of a HIGH POPULATION, not a high death rate. The per capita rates are much, much lower.
Not for being shot.

That`s mainly due to how common guns are in the USA, though, with relatively little control.

The overall homicide rate per capita in the USA (note that this doesn`t include the many accidental deaths that are inevitable with lots of guns around) is a lot higher than in other rich countries. About 3 times as high as Canada or UK, for example.

This is way off topic, really. This is a kiddy`s playground, not an armoury.

In china you get alot more stabbing deaths. Crazy people running into kindergartens stabbing as many kids as he can. Death by gun is not the only way to measure a homicide.

Shadow that is a useless statistic. Different countries track a gun related homicide differently. America tracks any gun related death as such even if later it is viewed as self-defense. In many countries, they go back and take justified killing (mm tasty) with a firearm off of the books if it is determined to be so. Also you are looking at countries that have very low gun ownership. I mean in some places you have to leave your own guns at hunting clubs locked up. In these countries you have fewer gun related deaths because you have fewer guns. Doesn`t mean that someone won`t beat you to death, or hit you with a car, or stab you, it just means you aren`t going to get shot.

If you think about how many people die in the country from gun deaths, yes we (canada) are better. you got 11,300 some per year, we have 500 some per year, no other country have I seen have even more than 1000 let alone 11,000! Japan: 300 some. China: 100-400 some.

The lower age difference is likely due to the different laws in each country concerning safety. The max age is completely arbitrary and chosen because toy companies use age groups when marketing their products.

I don`t want to ruin the pathetic flame war going on, but it`s likely a difference in Federal law. Companies in the US may be required to recommend this equipment for ages 2+, while Canadians just hope their kids die so they aren`t a strain on a failing socialized healthcare system. (Just kidding - flame on!)
