Hey Jagoff, wanna know something that bugs me? When people mispronounce the word cliche. It`s "clee" not "cli"

The car not starting was the whole freaking point of "Cujo". Bad example, and PS this guy is a douche.

what annoys me is that villains/henchmen always die immediately when shot but good guys (and occasionally main bad guys) take FOREVER.

James Rolfe is a true film lover. If you ever listen to his commentaries on filmmakers and such, it`s easy to see that he isn`t just the "Angry Video Game Nerd."

They forgot one...the flashlight that always goes out at the worst possible moment.

Most of them ive already noticed and hated.

i dont really mind the artsy 360 camera one, if its done right, like to show a character in huge scenery. and the comedic pause makes trailers snappy, though the record stopping ones are annoying.

The stupid villain annoys me - especially when earlier in the film, during their establishing phase, they usually kill off some random people just to show how badass they are. Then it come to the one person they WANT to kill and they fail.

Michael Bay`s over-use of the 360 shot is a cliche.

A cliché is just "anything that has become trite or commonplace through overuse."

These are clichés! He`s not misusing the word.

And the "slow clap" or the "Parrents said no but im gonna skeak out almost get cought then rush home fast as I can". Just movie stuff. Its how they are made.

@Batmanners

Completely agree. I stopped taking him seriously once he claimed the arc shot (or 360 shot as he calls it) was a cliche. If the arc shot is a cliche, then the over the shoulder shot, establishing shot, close-up shot, in fact any type of shot regularly used by directors must be a cliche as well.

The rest of these `cliches` are used to keep the level of action high, build suspense, create tension and conflict, keep the movie interesting to the audience which is the primary goal of a director.

I`d agree a few are becoming overused (like when they trip and never get back up on their feet) but the reason they`re used over and over are because they work.

I`d hate to watch a movie with this guy.

I don`t agree with the 360 shot. It`s a technique not a cliche.

What about the cat that screams when it`s stepped on while the hero is sneaking around; or the pigeons that noisily fly up in the face of the heroine when she`s sneaking around. There`s plenty that are more common than the 360 shot.

The one I keep seeing time and time again is the "absent father" plotline. So many characters in films have daddy issues.

Hell, even Up does it.

It`s never an absent mother. The trauma is ALWAYS a missing father figure. Were a lot of Hollywood Writers shunned by their dads?

You know what I hate that happens in films all the time? When they`re in France or something and everyone speaks English in a French accent but they use random French words like "bonjour" and "madame."

I also hate Russians being the bad guys, America being the "free world" and blue eyes/blonde guys playing Romans or Greeks with ancient English accents.
I HATE THAT!!

People... Cliché is NOT something you hate, it`s something that`s used over and over and that has become commonplace. There are some good clichés, and there are some bad ones. Just because it`s a cliché it doesn`t mean it`s awful.

These ARE all cliches. When something is used so much that people are recognizing that it`s being overused, it`s a cliche. It doesn`t matter whether it`s a phrase or a plot device or a filming technique, it`s still a cliche.

Crucible: "Weird how this guy (the angry video game nerd) made this video just a few weeks after The Nostalgia Critic did the same thing"

He posted this video months ago on spike.com.

I still get a kick out of the matrix parodies, and you expect someone to fall when they`re being chased, if it doesn`t happen I`m disappointed. Same thing with the car that wont start. And it`s in the villain code that before they kill the good guy, they have to have one last monologue so that our hero has enough time to do something impossible to get out of his dire situation.

Batmanners - it totally was! And hurry up to make fun of him before that becomes a cliche too ;-)

I was wondering the whole time if it was the AVGN...odd.

And many of these were not clichés, they were cinematographic techniques.

A "movie cliché" is something that happens in movies, but not in real life, and you accept it. Like cars exploding on impact is a cliché.

Imitating the Matrix is not a cliché. It`s been done a lot, it`s not funny, but that doesn`t make it a cliché.

I thought a few were good and funny, but many were misinterpretations of what a cliché is, and that made me realize I would rather have a buffalo take a diarrhea dump in my ear than watch this mindless rubbish.

i agree with the cliches that have to do with horror films.
there`s ALWAYS a fake scare, they ALWAYS trip, and if there is a car then there is ALWAYS an issue that removes the car from the movie.

"This was made by the "Angry Video Game Nerd""

I think it was made by a film critic that doesn`t understand film language. I`d would like to see whatever movies he made.
Sounds like Roger Ebert.

...And bullet time didn`t come from The Matrix, it came from Trancers (Tim Thomerson as Jack Deth, gag was called `The Long Second`) who were imitated by `Max Payne` then, Matrix.

To be fair, the mom in Cujo was bringing her car for repairs so she had a legit reason why her car wouldn`t start. however most movies there is no reason for cars not to start.

As a child, watching Dragon Ball Z, I always wondered why they didn`t just kill their opponent when they`re lying down. Or when villains explain their whole plot to their nemesis so they can formulate a plan to thwart the villain`s plan.

Then again,movies are for entertainment.

half of those make perfect sense, and are not cliches.
theres nothing wrong with the 360 shot.
fade to black in trailers makes perfect sense to use when having two completely unconnected scenes back to back, especially if there is action involved.
if you made a parody movie around the time matrix was popular, why wouldn`t you parody it? isn`t that the point?

If the creators of this video are so unhappy with the cliches we always see, and love, then show us some new examples of what cinema can do. And #5, Parodying the Matrix, inventing bullet time, he said the "the action slows down, to show a traveling bullet while the camera rotates". Not true. They did invent a new kind of shot. But it did not have a rotating camera. It was shot with dozens of camera`s spaced closely together all around the shot.
