Wow, you"d think Foxx & Azrin would be a little more sensitive with the title of their book considering everything...

"

If using "retarded" as an insult is acceptable, then words such as "nigg*r", "fag," and "jew" as insults should also be made acceptable.

But wait, that wouldn`t be right, now would it?"

Are you retarded?

Mentally Retarded was an accepted term at one point.
People in the UK still find it funny that in the USA you call disabled people "handicapped".

I have a developmentally disabled younger brother, and I can assure you of two things. First, "retarded" was the accepted terminology for his condition 25 years ago. Second, this was a book that needed to be written.

@daniellee, my brother is serverly mentally handicapped, he laughs at other people like him for being retarded, infact give him half a chance with a wheelchair or crutches, and he pretends hes a cripple! lol

during the week he lives in a residential home for folks with severe learning disabilities, yet he still laughs when we refer to them as `the inmates`

i totally agree with deeplick, truly retarded people dont care that they are, for the most part they just enjoy themselves, people that are offended by things like this are generally, needlessly anal and insist on making themselves out to be righteous do-gooders

deeplick, people with retardation may not be able to explain that the term technically means that they have an IQ more than two standard deviations below the mean of their age cohort. However, they certainly know and understand that it has negative connotations. They know that it means "dumb" or "stupid" to many people and they certainly know what those words mean.

deeplick-the people who are most offended by that word are people who have someone in their family who is handicapped, or people who actually care. you know, good people.

I once heard a joke about people saying retarded and how it offends others. It went something like this. "Why do people get offended when you say retarded, you see if someone was actually retarded they wouldn`t care that you said retarded because they wouldn`t know what they hell you meant. In fact it seems like the people that are offended by the term retarded are people who are not retarded."

I wholeheartedly agree with that joke. Retarded people don`t care, why do you?

I don`t get it. There is nothing wrong with the word "Retarded," especially not at the time this book was written.

If you are offended, I suggest you read this: http://tinylink.in/56Y

God damn, you people are so scared of being offended. Oh, did the picture hurt your fragile feelings? How sad. Go QQ somewhere else, and while you`re at it, read Fahrenheit 451. It`s a book about how sissy ass bitches who are afraid to be offended end up having a massively negative impact on the world.

Rickbub, you don`t have to tolerate any kind of insult towards someone who is disabled. Whether it affects you or not. People should be more sympathetic. Due to our comfortable modern lifestyles, the majority of people decide to act lazily. They don`t educate themselves because it is easier to sit back and have fun. It is easier to mock the weak than to defend them. This isn`t the case with everyone though. There are those who don`t understand and mock the unknown either to conform or to entertain themselves. Either is quite unacceptable. The people who mock the helpless should feel greatly ashamed and infinitely guilty. This picture doesn`t offend me one bit, it`s the people who go out and torment those with disabilities knowingly. If the person being victimized decides to strike out then the bully will get what they deserve. We know this isn`t the right way to behave in response to bullying but maybe we should stop the bullying before it reaches this point. I hope you all agree.

Ya know, I`m quite proud of my anti-PC sense of humor. I also have an autistic son who I love with all my heart. Because of my sense of humor, I can`t be two-faced and not be offended by any jokes EXCEPT those about autistic people, so I grin and bear it. I suggest those who are offeded by this to do the same.
