"Dear co-worker and friend"
"There is not going to be a service held"

Can`t have been much of a friend or a dear co-worker...

idiotfilter, just because it`s a nursery rhyme doesn`t make it any less retarded. It`s quite obvious that no one got any billy goats, whether one is a troll or not.

BTW, it isn`t a nursery rhyme... it`s a children`s book... Or maybe both, I don`t know, but I`ve only read the children`s book.

People need to be told, IMO. A lot of people mix up "past" and "passed" all the time.

@Angilion
I agree with using died - it`s more straight forward and hones. But then it would probably have read : Our dear co-worker and friend, John Doe did. Thursday 7/29/10 at 14:15 pm

What`s wrong with the word `died`? A euphemism is completely pointless. `passed away`, bleh.

I think slapping up a crappy little note that you couldn`t be bothered to check (or have checked by someone more literate) is not necessarily more respectful than correcting it. Maybe the dead person had some respect for English and the person who corrected the note knew that.

Not that I`d care for myself. When I`m dead, I`m dead. You can hump my corpse and use it as a hatstand if you like - I`m not in it any more. If anyone alive cares, they can have a service if they like, but it`ll be nothing to do with me.

"...You people do realize that a service is generally set up by the FAMILY, not coworkers? "There is no service" means "There is no service," not "your coworkers hate you." "

True, but to say "there is not going to be a service held" on a sign letting people know they died is pretty much as unnecessary as the grammar nazi edit. All in all, if I was the person who died, I`d be disappointed in every aspect with my co-workers.

Wow just did a second read of my comment and tbh I`m sorry, I went at you way too hard.

Basically I feel like it`s common ethics not to speak or act ill on a dead person. If you truly respect someone it should go beyond death.

Male 1,184
No, I don`t care if anyone respects my corpse. Why would I? I`d be dead. Your corpse doesn`t have any pride. You, however, are clearly bursting with it.

Sort of like that, Boadecia... I don`t really see any problem with ripping up a corpse either, though, except that it doesn`t sound particularly exciting. Sounds rather bloody, actually, and I`m pretty squeamish.

Female 1,677
I think he`s more "indifferent" than willing to desecrate a corpse just for the hell of it. People get so touchy about death-- we ALL die. You don`t need to freak out over respecting dead bodies-- it`s just not a big deal unless you knew the person. Pretty sure that`s where Siyanor`s coming from. I highly doubt he runs around chopping up dead bodies or something... relax.

Male 975
No you`re clearly a piece of s.hit that`s why you don`t respect a corpse, because you don`t care if anyone respects yours.
I have a lot of pride and I don`t want anyone desecrating my body after my death.

You can use all the `logic` you want but either you`re just trying to stick out from the crowd or there`s some loose ends in your brain.

How about respecting her memory by spelling a simple word correctly?
0
Reply
Male 1,184
Lando, respecting a memory is entirely different from respecting a corpse. I can respect memories. I don`t respect corpses.

And if that person truly was a jerk, I`m not going to respect the memories, either. Why respect something that doesn`t deserve respect?
I never understood "respect for the deceased" either... how can a dead person know whether or not s/he is respected?
Are you trolling or just not very thoughtful? The "respect" is for the MEMORY of the deceased, the memory that their friends and family have. So you shouldn`t say disrespectful things like "I`m glad he`s dead, he was a dickhead" because that would disrespect the MEMORY of the deceased in the eyes of their surviving family and friends. This is just common sense.

My grandmother and her twin sister had the best outlook, I think. "If you couldn`t give us flowers while we were alive to appreciate them, don`t bother after we are dead." Both wanted to be cremated and their only wish beyond that was to not spread the ashes over water because they had never learned to swim. On topic...I may not have gone as as far as to write on it, but I sure as hell would have pointed the past/passed mix up to someone...

"again, it`s not about the dead person. Spending lots of money on a funeral is a way to make the loved ones feel better about the person being dead."
______

What? So the more money you spend the better you feel about someone being dead???? Wow, please elaborate....

Anyway, there is no reason to go into debt when someone dies. And when someone dies, do yu really think the whole family gets together and pool their money? NOPE! It comes down on a few family members...been there done that. When I die, I don`t want some ridiculous service with a bunch of crying people mourning me. I say everyone go ziplining and have and have a fruity smoothie in my memory! : - )

and yet again @ Siyanor:

again, it`s not about the dead person. Spending lots of money on a funeral is a way to make the loved ones feel better about the person being dead. it`s like a glorious send-off if you will. it`s also a way to show that you value the person just as much in death as you did in life.

again, keep in mind these services are NOT for the dead person, per se.

again @ Siyanor:

Yeah, it`s your atheism talking :p I can see where it would be a little hard to honor the dead when you don`t believe they go anywhere after death.

But it wouldn`t hurt to keep people in mind who DO believe in that sort of thing, and perhaps believe very strongly in it.

@ Siyanor:

Services are NOT for the deceased person. They are really for the surviving friends/family, as a way for them to say goodbye and gain some closure. It`s a way to remember the person`s life and to honor them for what they have done, or what they meant to everyone.

I have no clue why anyone would want a service, unless that person is so engrossed in his/her religion that s/he thinks s/he will immediately go to Hell/whatever corresponds to Hell without a service. A dead person can`t see the service, and it`s quite irrational to want your family and friends to spend lots of money for a funeral service for someone who can`t see it.

"If the bulletin posting my death was misspelled and in Comic Sans, I`d like for someone to correct the spelling and smack whoever made it."

I agree 100%. this looks slapped together at the last minute. It may be just a notice about a person`s death, but even these need to show a little respect to the deceased.

For those wondering why no service would be held, there are many reasons why one might not be held. My Nanny (grandma) passed away about a month and a half ago. She worked for NASA, had many people who loved and adored her. Her wishes were to not have a service, she didn`t want a bunch of people gathering together to cry about her. She was the kind of person who didn`t want anyone to fuss about her, and everyone who knows her knew that. IDK about this person who passed away, but it`s not wrong to not have a service especially if having one would be against the persons wishes.
