Should I buy 4 singles for $8 or a 4 pack for $11?

Wow, and I thank God for math class because I can find the best price per gram when I buy cereal (ex. $5.99 for 450g of fruit loops or $8.99 for the 750g box?).

This one just seems way too easy.

If this comes as a surprise, then you really need to watch what you are buying. I run into overpriced merchandise like this at just about every store I shop at. Pay attention to the price tag and units offered and not how much or how little is in the packaging.

This also looks like Kmart who likes to overcharge for everything anyway.

The price tags have different names. It`s likely that the first package is in the wrong spot.

If anyone still isn`t getting this... look at the price of a pack of one, then of a pack of two, then of a pack of four. kthxbai.

What`s wrong with profiting from stupid people? Your government does it every day, it`s just that most of you people don`t realize it.

If you`re really too lazy to open 4 packages...you win the internet.

Davek1013, either way it`s retarded. I would probably just steal them anyway, especially from Walmart.

Meh, so? I used to work at Wal-mart, and I did notice a few items like this. It is fail but go to a different store and there`s a good chance you`ll pay more.

@jerkymeat7 I don`t know if YOU actually looked at the pic, but that one is on another rack.

Okay. Here is the trick.

ONE light is 1.99
TWO lights is 5.14 (That`s about 2.6 times more.)
FOUR lights is 10.49 (That`s about 5.3 times more than one and about 2.04 times more that the 2 pack.)

Basically it`s just stupid calculations for the value. You could get 4 lights for 7.96 by buying seperately.

If you look closely at the tag it says automatic night light above the $1.99.

donno if anyone actually LOOKED at the picture, but the bulb on the far left says MANUAL NIGHTLIGHT.It probably is worth 2$. I bet the single AUTOMATIC light is in the wrong spot.

I saw something like this at the store with batteries. There was a `sale` on a one-pack of batteries for 2/$5 and right next to it there was a two-pack, not on sale, for $4.50.

About 15% of people simply cannot do the math (in their heads at least) to figure out that 4X1.99 < 10.49, eh?
My dad, who was an accountant, was one of them, so I know this first had (plus I learned it in university later too).

At the hardware store, I noticed that 100` of drainage hose cost $24.99 How much did 50` of the exact same hose cost? $25.99... lolz!

I`ve been noticing this lately on a variety of things. Buying bulk now costs more. Companies are trying to take advantage of people who are accustomed to paying less when buying in larger volume.

Ani187 Yep I think it is too.
My Target had an "incredible" sale two months ago.
3 pairs of panties for 15! Regular price, 5 dollars each.

"If they had an 8-pack, how much would they charge?
I make it near $21 even. There`s only 3 points for a curve, but it looks like it`s asymptotically approaching $2.62/nightlight."

@osirisasce: yeah, they`ve done that to a bunch of things. put a bigger dimple in the bottom of peanut butter tubs, made soap smaller, fill bags of whatever less, etc.

A failure in pricing by the store, but people will still buy them without complaint so maybe its a win in pricing by the store.

@ CrakrJak: I`m not surprised that you`d be one to notice this type of thing...

But did you notice that a bag of table sugar still costs close to what it did before the economy went to hell?

Why, you ask?

Because a bag of sugar no longer weighs five lbs., now it weighs four.

Bastards.

"If you are stupid enough to be able to compare the prices you deserve to get ripped off."

If you don`t compare the prices you will get ripped off... You`re presenting a lose/lose scenario, and that leads me to believe you are the stupid one.

It is when they complain. Not every post is going to appeal to everyone. Oxyl`s going to complain about the quality of the posts but we have nothing to compare it to because we only know what he doesn`t like.

People always think the bigger pack is the best deal. Always do the math. Besides, Why is a battery brand making something that doesn`t need batteries?

Male 17,511
Always check for things like this, Compare prices `per weight`, `per count`, or `per fluid measure`.

Also, Check to make sure they haven`t lowered the normal measure in the box/bag/etc for a `sale`.

I noticed that Pringles went from $1 a can to $1.50 a can, But they increased the size of the can. Turns out, That the `New` size was actually the original size, From years ago, Before they started reducing it.

Jayme, it actually is fair to compare how many links a person has submitted.

If this post was lame, and Oxyl knew better stuff to post, why hasn`t he ever submitted it?

It is impossible for someone who submits 100+ things, that are worth of submitting, to have none posted....I`m proof, I submit a lot of stuff (though not as of late) and some gets through, some doesn`t.

Magicant, I really hope it did not take you 4 minutes to realize that buying these were a rip-off.

And yes this is very common. Maybe not as blatantly obvious, but supermarkets assume correctly when they think that the common person will not do the math before buying.

@Madest comparing how many links someone has posted isn`t always fair. I`ve submitted tons of stuff which was unique when i submitted it then see it several weeks later submitted by a mod. Once a comic was linked by fancy with credit given to my name....In the end just gave up submitting...

Stores do this all the time now. Because its enshrined into our brains economies of scale bulk is always cheaper. they cottoned on and changed prices accordingly. People always look at me weird when i buy 4 lots of small cream containers rather then one big one.
