I`ve had 3 corgis. I could coax them all day and I know any one of them would rather die than jump into water. This video really blows my mind.

Does this dog seriously have a life jacket on?

Dogs are natural swimmers. Owner fail.

actually its not really an owner fail. my mom had a dog that drowned in a pool, so technically they are just being careful.

you know, the reason it doesn`t want to go in the water is because it has a life jacket on. The dog instinctively thinks it will restrain its movement, hindering its swimming ability.

Wow AJ serious? Dogs may be excellent swimmers but everything eventually runs outta gas. I`d bet if you Googled "Do Dogs Drown" or "Dog Drowning" you`d realize how dumb that statement was.

I think they`d probably already determined the dog was not a strong swimmer, and that led to the decision to put a life jacket on him. Better safe than sorry.

This reminds me of my new dog. We took him to the dog beach for the first time last night, but forgot to bring a ball. He was happy playing with the other dogs, but whenever someone else threw a toy for their dog, he`d start chasing it out, stop once he was belly-high, and act like he could totally go get that ball himself, he just didn`t want to. It was funny. Obviously he`d never swam before, since he was flailing around the one time he got deep enough, so we, like these owners, will have to determine if it is safe to allow him to swim unassisted once he`s had a few more tries.

I wouldn`t do that with my dog. But then again the closest she`s come to swimming is going knee deep in the sea. And she`s only got three legs.

"Does this dog seriously have a life jacket on?

Dogs can swim, but that doesn`t necessarily mean they have great skill or endurance for it.

Depending on the breed, some dogs are excellent swimmers.

You`ll notice the lab didn`t need a vest. Corgis have shorter legs and will exhaust themselves a lot faster than a lab in the water.

Haha, that reminds me of the first time we brought my dog to the lake. She just casually walked off the dock, as if she expected to walk on the water.

    @simim:

If the dog can`t swim, it won`t go in, period.

    If it can, it will.

If it wants to, it will.

    If it doesn`t, it won`t.

No need for a life vest. It`s just being over-protective.

    All this is my opinion.

    Shut your face madest.

    sooooooo cute :)

also, for the people wigging out because the dog has a life vest, a lot of dog owners who take their dogs out on a boat or near deep water put life vests on thier dogs. The vests even have "handles" on the back so you can lift the dog out of the water. Dogs can drown just as easily as a strong human swimmer can. If they are unconscious or get too fatigued, both dogs and people can drown, even if they know how to swim. It`s just a safety precaution :)

    Lolz!
I love the life vest, I`ll bet corgis are really bad swimmers. Better safe than giving mouth-to-snout to your dog after he drowns.

Dog`s gunna go home and poo on someone`s personal belongings, probably pissed they put that damned life jacket on him. I hate little dogs, cute as they may be for girls they serve no purpose and when (if ever) there`s a global crisis in which a dog must end up fending for itself the little ones are the first to go.
