"They possess unconditional love."

I can think of some pretty salient counterexamples to this claim. A retarded boy at my school once punched another student in the head and broke his glasses. It`s not really his fault; he`s retarded, after all. But it wasn`t unconditionally loving, either.

Some non-retarded people also don`t suffer from bigotry or hatred y`know. Being retarded doesn`t automatically make you a saint. We all just ARE. Get over it.

I use to be very offended when people used the word "Retarded" to mean stupid. That was until I learned the accurate definition of the word. It was then that I began to laugh at those people. Because they are truly RETARDED.

But so is EVERYONE in the world.

EVERYONE is RETARDED, in one form or the other. If it were not so everyone would be equal.

Equal pay
Equal Jobs
Equal Education
Everyone would learn at the same pace. Everything would be the same if no one in the world was retarded in some way or the other.

It still hurts when I know that people are making fun of the mentally challenged and Down Syndrome people (considering being Downs means you have an extra chromosome). In a way the mentally challenged are more advanced than we are; they know more about being human, being kind. They don`t suffer from bigotry, or hatred. They possess unconditional love. So who is more retarded (or slow), the “menta

It`s retarded people have come up with so many different words for the same thing, and the list of what you can`t say and can changes with the decade.

There shouldn`t actually be a problem with calling someone retarded. Modern society has changed the word to have a negative connotation, so now everyone thinks it`s not a nice thing to say. Mentally handicapped just sounds strange because you`re not describing exactly what it is. People with dyslexia are also technically `mentally handicapped` because their brains function slightly wrongly, but they are not retarded.

This country has become a cesspool of spineless bitches.

I like people who say what`s on their mind, short and sweet. To do otherwise is to take up company with lying, manipulating offspring o` sluts.

Hell, retarded doesn`t even mean stupid, it technically means something that`s pulled back, or held back, or some variation of that.
But still, this makes no damn sense. He`s bright and also retarded? What?

And then he got elected President of the USA, twice. Amazing.

vv @sculptress YEah I know that the idea behind mainstreaming is OK, it`s just that I know 1st hand that they put vegatables into classrooms on a regular basis, in the name of `mainstreaming` them.

A 14 year old with:
90% blindness
90% deafness
cannot swallow, walk, or poop
has the mind of a 3 month old
will never get `better`
BUT He`s kept in his grade 8 class to "be with his peer group" Honestly! That`s just going too far.
And his teachers hate him. HATE. His classmates `put up with him` but idk if they`re learning any important life lessons when he decides to start screaming randomly.
Not urban myth, first hand knowledge.

I think in some situations it is good. For kids who are capable of the level of thinking required for a class but have a difficult time in some other way, it is reasonable for them to still be allowed the opportunity.

However, when they mainstream kids who are not emotionally or intellectually really able to handle being in a class with "normal" kids, I think it does more harm than good. There were several kids in middle and high school who were teased all the time and really gained nothing from being in the normal classes because they didn`t even take real tests or have to do the same work or anything. The teachers hated them and the other students were, by and large, mean to them. They would have done better in a class with similar students and understanding teachers that went at a pace that was less frustrating for them.

the whole point of mainstreaming is to give the kids the same chance. mainstreaming not only gives the kids a chance to reach whatever potential they could possible have through effort, it teaches all of the kids tolerance so people don`t assume you are wheeling a vegetable from classroom to classroom.

"You can be retarded in areas other than cognitive thinking."

Yeah... for example, I`m socially retarded, but cognitively advanced.

Mainstreaming retards is retarded.
Talk about `unexpected consiquences` eh? Having a vegatable wheeled from classroom to classroom, for no apparent purpose other than "mainstreaming" them. Yay.

You can be retarded in areas other than cognitive thinking.

Retarded is a word that means "slowed," which is why it was applied to those whose brain didn`t function as quickly as though around them. It`s idiotic kids like you that turned it into a pejorative, and started the ridiculous cycle of name-changing.
"Oh, retarded is bad now? We`ll call them handicapped. Handicapped bad? Disabled. No more disabled? Special." etc etc etc
