Tiger Mike was an non-nice individual. He knew it and reveled in it. Copies of these would occasionally float around the office when I worked in O&G. I haven`t thought about them in years.

From what I gathered in talking to co-workers who were in the industry at the time and some who worked at that company, he could be a bit of a dick at times, but he was generally respected. O&G in the 70`s (at least in Houston) was an odd mash-up of cowboy culture and ultra-conservatism (except during OTC.) To try to disect these memos using the current mindset is folly.

there were a hell of a lot more memos in circulation from this bastard. If anyone cares to read them, copies are here

Like many "small" O&G companies, this one filed chapter 11 back in 1980.

Happy to say this jerk went out of bussiness in the mid-eighties. His sister and brother-in-law were just a mean and tight. They`d take any lunch out of the fridge and tell the poor soul who went without that he/she "owed" them a lunch because they had a job. Also had a bad habit of not paying vendors because it really was their money and they needed to keep it as long as they wanated.

this is nothing compared to some of the bosses i work for. a memo? HAHAHA. how about screaming in your face? Also SOME of the things he said at least made sense - fabricating paid expenses, using a typewriter instead of handwriting. not that much to ask for.

I don`t think it`s too much to expect your employees to do the job they`re being paid to do. If my boss caught me on IAB when I`m supposed to be working (like now), I`d expect nothing less than a reprimand.

I can only imagine that this type of memo was acceptable 9 years before I was born.

This really made me laugh. I bet he`s a really nice guy outside of work. Also, I don`t think he was disrespecting them because they "need the job", it seems to be more because they are "fabricating expenses", which I believe is a fairly reasonable thing to be angry about.

Wow! That nifty corporate logo design was pretty impressive Edward. Apparently he put the pinch as in penny-pincher to a whole new level of meaning. Hmm....dated 1977-78, so I wonder if he ever keeled over from a heart attack?

Even IAB should have corrected this.

Makes ya thin what kind of retards are running this site. No offence, but god if you don`t know the difference b/w 2 and 3 you shouldn`t be running a site.

I read them all before. He`s constantly referring how he wants his business to run like the Army. Former drill Sargent?
Honestly a lot of his demands aren`t unreasonable, but he is a major dick about it.

I get that businesses need to make money to stay in business, but there are different ways of maintaining productivity and NOT being a dick. Iv`e had plenty of hard ass bosses who challenged the employees rather than playing supreme overlord of your paycheck. And in those scenarios productivity was high, and the atmosphere wasn`t "F*ck, i want to kill my boss" so you end up ahead because your employees dont hate you, they respect you. A big difference.

"The problem with many employees today is that they seem to forget that the whole purpose of the place they work at is to make money"

And we make money so we can buy things that keep us alive and keep us comfortable and happy.

It`s rather self-defeating to make yourself miserable earning the money needed to make you happy.

This boss needs to remember one thing: most people will work the lesser-paid job that they enjoy over the higher-paid job that they hate. It`s cheaper for him to treat his employees well.

@Crabcakes, I agree whole-heartedly. The problem with many employees today is that they seem to forget that the whole purpose of the place they work at is to make money (for most jobs). 90% of the people I`ve worked with seem to think that it is their right to work, when, in fact, it is not.

Nothing brings me more pleasure in life than firing someone who never seems to give a poo, only to see him/her practically start crying. I go home and eat cake whenever that happens :D.

Here`s the deal for all you pussies calling him a dick or abusing the memos for the art or whatnot:

These memos are likely from the 70`s, as has been stated. Further, if you don`t like his attitude, then you don`t have to deal with it, but if you quit every job where the boss expects you to 1) be dresssed properly, 2)not steal poo, and 3) actually know your drating job, you`re going to go through employers pretty quick.

Personally, I wish more bosses were like this NOW. I work in a small job shop, and the company owner/president is a nice guy, but has absolutely ZERO problems with calling someone out on bullpoo. He`s old school, and great to work for because NO ONE gets away with dumb poo and the company always makes money, which means we make money from profit sharing.

See where this leads? ;)

This isn`t unreasonable. The employees aren`t doing their jobs properly and he wants to run a tight ship. Following a few simple rules like wear proper attire, type rather than hand-write, and don`t waste company money is better for both the company and the employees in the long run, as the company has to do well for the employees to keep getting paid.

Yup, those two pictures were pretty entertaining, but I definitely liked the one better than the other. If I had to chose between the two, I probably wouldn`t pick the second one, by which I mean last one, obviously.

1. do your job
2. ?
3. get paid

if you don`t add in "sleep with co-workers" or "use the boss` money to pay off my gambling bills" you should do ok

I bet this guy is cool as poo if you do things the right way.

Most hard ass bosses are like that.

If you are a good employee, they give you the world. If you suck, they call you out on it.

I don`t understand how this could be considered "unreasonable".

Don`t like working for someone else and think your boss pushes you too hard? Start your own business. You`ll learn two things. 1) Working for yourself takes a lot of discipline and is harder and more stressful than you probably think it is and 2) People always hate the boss simply because he is the boss.

1. This was made in 1977-78
2. None of it seems unreasonable. He is asking them to do their job or leave. He just says it in a different tone than what`s `normal` now-a-days.
3. It`s his company he can do what he wants, I`d rather him as a boss than some idiot who tip toes around and says nothing until the company goes broke/he get`s fired and a harder boss comes in and starts firing people.
4. Lol at the secretaries.....

Sooo, firing employees that are wasting company time, breaking dress code, and stealing company money is now being a hard ass?

I wouldn`t have written any of these memo`s. Just a phone call to pick your poo up in the parking lot, oh, and it`s raining.

Note to Edward Mike Davis:
Your logo on your memo looks like S H I T that a second grader would draw. Tigers actually die before they get that skinny. You should know better than to add an oil derrick to a wildlife scene anyway you "doosh" bag. Since these letters were written back in the late 70`s, someone has probably shot you and stuck you in a dark cave somewhere. What is that Tiger standing on anyway? Your casket?
Have a nice day, Eddie.
