If you have an IQ of 146 you`re probably banned. They don`t want anyone in public office who thinks for themself.

(I realise that themself is incorrect but it satisfies the social mores and stops me from being called a fascist)

@Dolomyte

You are confusing the Pledge of Allegiance with "The Star Spangled Banner". The Pledge never states that the U.S. is a "free state", but does guarantee equal liberty and justice for all. Even if that`s what you`re referring to, your logical jump to an anarchy/police state dichotomy is complete nonsense.

I hope I`m just tone-deaf and you`re being sarcastic, but a representative republic is a form of democracy. You know this, right?

@Baalthazaq

If the united States is a free state as stated in the pledge of allegiance, `land of the free, home of the brave` then the use of roads and causeways would be free to all to use as they see fit as long as no persons or property was damaged in the usage. On the other hand if police regulate the use of roads and causeways then that would be a police state. Furthermore consider the discriminatory practice of these regulations by police. How many African Americans have been ticketed for simply being black? When you consider the deceptions, the abused powers, the discrimination it is no wonder police are in danger during routine traffic stops. But removing guns from traffic police will only inspire more violence, not absolve it.

"The facts are available. Look them up. "

That is the problem. Civilian deaths by police action is not properly documented. In 2006, the estimation is around 200, Basil in his argument is claiming a number in the 18,000 range, he then calls traffic cops serial killers. In my experience when an agency is not completely transparent then that agency generally has something to hide.
My position on the issue is with the police actions that interfere with the inalienable rights of the people to travel. The perceived dangerous job may be a reaction to the infringement of rights, whereas if rights were not infringed then there may be much less violent response to those actions.

I take issue with the fact that he said we are a democracy. Idiot. Evey U.S. citizen SHOULD know that The United States is a Representative Republic, not a democracy. Of course, he does appear to be drunk, so who knows.

Close Michael, but not quite.

The FBI`s 2005 report puts domestic abuse figures at 12.7% of police deaths, and traffic stops at 27.3%

Domestic abuse calls ARE actually more dangerous, when it comes to officers being *assaulted*, but not killed.

I have no idea why this is. Possibly you`re less likely to be surprised on a domestic violence call. There`s also a matter of there potentially being more traffic stops than domestic abuse calls, or vice versa. Making "most dangerous job police do" not the same as "most dangerous job to have as a policeman".

I`d rather do 1 traffic stop than 1 domestic abuse call. True.

(Made up examples below).
Chances of death.
Job X: 2%.
Job Y: 0.2%.
(Worst to do is X)

Number of times you have to do job daily:
X: 2.
Y: 30.

Results:
Job X = dead on average in 18 days.
Job Y = dead on average in 12 days.
(Worst to have is Y)

I disagree with one part of your statement, baalthazaq. Acctually, more police are killed on domestic violence calls than any other call. I don`t know where trafic stops fall on this list, but I know for sure that DV calls are the deadliest for beat cops. That said, the rest of your point is valid. Not many careers are more dangerous than police officer.

Dolomyte.
"The public opinion is most likely that traffic police have a very dangerous job."

I deleted my original message as it may breach certain board rules. Also, I apologize for suggesting that position, it was wrong of me and anatomically implausible that you could type while doing it anyway.

In summary:
The facts are available. Look them up.
You`ll find that more police are killed in traffic stops than anything else they do. Thus, they do have a dangerous job. (Ranked as the 10th most dangerous job in America. Worse than firefighters by about 25%. This is just traffic police, not all police).

Just as a small piece of advice, you may wish to learn something, and then share it. In that order, as opposed to sharing first and learning later.

I wish you all the best. Have a nice day.

I live in TN and this guy got around 3,000 votes in the primary. So for those keeping score at home, that`s about half of a percent of the vote. So we aren`t totally insane here, just partly.

He has some thoughtful debate, from what I could gather through his speech impediment. But the message I do not think will far well at the polls, `take guns from traffic police who perform traffic stops`.
I agree that most likely more civilians are shot and killed by police officers than officers shot and killed my civilians, but public opinion is formed by television and how many `cops` shows depict civilians shooting at police? The public opinion is most likely that traffic police have a very dangerous job.
When in actuality traffic police are there to ensure continuous flow not stop, harass, and infringe on sacred rights of travel. Only citations that should be handed out are in cases of injuries to persons or property.
