To address some comments:

People have been building in areas prone to flooding for at least all of recorded history, probably before then too. It`s extremely fertile farming land, so settlements tend to start there. Ancient Egypt, for example, was able to supply most of the staple food for most of the Roman empire from lands which flooded at least a couple of times every year.

For a modern example, how about London? It`s built on a swamp that`s part of the flood plain for a river that that routinely caused massive flooding. It`s much bigger now, but that`s where the older parts of London are. Flooding was a huge problem before modern technology and is still a threat now despite the hundreds of flood defences. Should we try to move London?

So you are trying to equate me with the WBC, Just because I made the point about muslims celebrating 9/11? I never said that OBL represented all muslims, However millions of muslims certainly do share his views.

Fewer than thousand Christians share Phelps views, Yet his groups activities are showcased here on IAB at least a few times a week.

I guess it`s just safer to bash Christians and get away with it, Right ?

Come on Crakajoke. Should I call you pot, or kettle here?

Weren`t you just complaining in the Westboro post about how WBC and their "God Hates Fags" trip doesn`t represent all Christians? I know that it doesn`t... but I`ve likewise seen many vids and pics of them out in their droves picketing funerals.

Here comes the clue train, last stop, you. You quoting Osama bin Laden as representative of the views of an entire Muslim nation is akin to me quoting Fred Phelps as representative of an entire Christian nation, like America. Except I wouldn`t do that. Grow up, man.

The people of Pakistan got hit hard, and the worst is yet to come. Are you seriously advocating that we don`t help them, on the basis of their majority religious denomination?

apermal: Nevertheless, Do you see anyone here in America dancing in the streets yelling `God is great` at this flooding news ?

The fact is many muslims celebrated 9/11. You may quibble as to just exactly how many, But that doesn`t change the fact that entire streets were filled with chants of `Allah Akbar` and the burning of symbols of America.

We were shown muslims dancing in the street in several middle-east nations like Egypt, Iran, Gaza, Syria, And Lebanon from news media like Al-Jazeera and MEMRI re-broadcast on CNN.

As a Christian, I would hope America does come to their aid even if it isn`t appreciated immediately."

What you were shown was convenient footage. Convenient for news. My brother was a videographer for Geo News in Karachi, and when it happened he was told among other reporters to go to certain locations in Karachi which were showing the celebrations. `Certain` should be read as `few`. The large majority of us in the city were in shock. Many of us outraged by this. The news will only show what sells.

A month later I took a trip to Dhahran in Saudi Arabia, and even there people were outraged, shocked

You`re not familiar with the United States are you? We dont have much sympathy, if any, when people in our own country are suffering...let alone folks half a world away...especially in the Middle East nowadays. Right or Wrong...its the reality of it.

Actually, the Jewish God, Christian God and Muslim Gods are all the same Creator. Christians believe in the Jesus story, Muslims in the Muhammad story and Jews in the Moses story. Regardless, they both separated from Judaism in the first centuries of A.D. (or first centuries after B.C.)

davymid & AJ you`re so very wrong! dukat has it right.
Ever hear of the "New Testament"? That`s what Christians believe in!

"I am the way, the truth & the light, without me there is no salvation" - Jesus

Christians believe God has a Son (not had, has, present tense eh?) who died for their sins. Muslims believe NO SUCH THING.
It is a completely different God, similar in names only. The Muslims came after & co-opted previous religous texts to their advantage, m-kay?
This makes the Muslim `Allah` SIMILAR to the Christian God and Jewish Jehova, but not the other way around.

I`m sorry there Rick S but when has Pakistan EVER beaten up the US? When in fact has ANY middle eastern country `beat up` the US? I think you`ve got your facts backwards. It`s no wonder the rest of the world thinks poorly of Americans these days, with comments like that.

I`ve been wanting to see the image to go with the flooding stories.

I`m glad the US is going to their aid for two reasons. First, because doing so might help our image in the Middle East, which we desperately need right now. Second, the Golden rule is "Do to others as you would have them do to you," NOT "Do to others what they have done to you." That means that even if you`ve been beat up by someone, you still offer them a hand when they fall down, because that`s what you would want them to do for you.

Muslim Allah and my God are one and the same.

Difference, our religions have different beliefs.

They believe Jesus was a prophet sent from Allah. We believe Jesus was the son of God.

They believe Muhammad was a prophet sent from Allah. We believe he was a warlord that started a religion based off of Judaism and was defeated in a battle and sent into exile. ;)

Derp. Someone needs to read that pesky, inconvenient first half of the Bible called the Old Testament. You`ll find it`s the same dude. Spoiler: The Jews have the same God as the Muslims and the Christians. Christianity calls him "God the Father", the Jews call him "Yahweh", the Muslims call him "Allah". Whatever attributes he has (and some are pretty unpleasant) are pretty black and white, it`s all written in (the same) scripture.

I`m not making this up.

Anyways, point is, people are suffering in Pakistan, how about we rally round as fellow people and help them out?

Pizzaroll- I disagree. If a country asks for help in a situation of this magnitude, we should do all that we can to help, because they are people too. The problem is, they have to weigh the risk of inviting a country like ours to come in and "help". We have a nasty little habit of laying claim to territory and expecting something in return. If you do the right thing, you generally get back what you dish out. If not, you just have to know that you did the right thing for the sake of that thing.

That`s a really ignorant thing to say. You`re mixing up politics with people. A small group that`s made up of extremists have all the power in places like Pakistan. They`re the ones who hate western civilization and making it a hellish place to live in. Not ordinary people who really couldn`t care less about that kind of thing.

It`s actually not that bad. The houses on the side aren`t in direct path of the water, so invest on some stout walls to go down the street which will keep the buildings dry. So it`s a big U with buildings inside.

But it never does THAT! HOLY POO Thats a LOT of angry water!

Cold hard fact: there`s too many people, they`ve moved into and built homes on land which is `risky` and now, their gamble has come up snake-eyes. Mother Nature is reminding them (us) to keep their (our) population in check, as she does for ALL creatures, even ants.

These news are current, yet the flood started 2 weeks ago...it`s the first I`ve seen of it on I-A-B despite the hordes of videos and coverage available.

"Can you hear this Muslim mother`s voice?"
Because of the music, no...no I could not....and why the hell specify that she is Muslim? A mother is a mother regardless of religion... Why specify religion? I would elaborate "Can you hear this Muslim, Dark Taupe skinned, pink and purple clothing lover, mid-40`s, dark haired, Punjabi speaking, mother`s voice?"

On a realists` point of view, not trying to be a complete dick, but natural events happen, and they take precedence over our lives. We need the earth to live, it does not need us. There is nothing we can do to stop it, prevent it, or make it better, all we can do is feel bad...and throwing money at it will not make you feel better.

On the upside: Osama might have drowned.

Video report from the BBC here.

The sad thing is that the worst is yet to come. Yes, 1600 people have already drowned or died directly because of the flood which is bad enough on its own.

But consider what happens when the flood subsides. Flattened crops. Dead livestock. Deadly diseases everywhere. Homes demolished. Rapidly dwindling food reserves. Altered landscape making it hard for aid to get through. Criminals and terrorists taking advantage of the chaos.

Pakistan was already a very poor country before the flood. Now imagine what it`s going to be like AFTER this disaster.
