My thoughts exactly, if you don`t want something to be public, don`t put it on a public place. Anyone who ever thought anything on Facebook was ever truly private has now learned the lesson.

I dunno, I guess because I`m a first generation net native, this is all common sense.

One thing that does shock me is the lack of concern for personal privacy. "I`m doing nothing wrong, so I don`t have to worry." Yes, yes you do.
What happens when companies figure out how to use CCTV to map your buying habits for marketing purposes? Want to start getting adds in the mail for Johnson`s Genital Wart Cream? CCTV in pharmacies. Or what about purchasing naughty items at the sex shop. Or what if you work in an abortion clinic, and find your image plastered on posters in your neighborhood by anti-abortionists?

Dna database? F*ck no! Think about this, information can be accessed by almost anyone, the F.B.I. has been hacked. What happens when you find out that a Pharma company has copywritten one of your genes, or gene sequences? They own your body.
Conspiracy? Think I should be wearing a tin foil hat? Look, listen, and question.

Google street view: If you didn`t want to be caught naked sunbathing or changing your clothes: stay indoors with the curtains closed! Anyone could have seen it walking down your street anyway, so what are you complaining about??

who gives a crap about CCTVs? That is like the camera at the gas station or the atm. I should remind whoever wrote this that Eagle Eye was fiction. To get the video of my sexy face pumping gas at the local station the cops, or homeland security, still have to go and get the tapes.

One thing I do find surprising is that people in the UK aren`t caught on camera more. With public cameras and all every where.

Also, ignorant MNs FTW! Who needs to be on Google maps when no one cares where that is anyways. I don`t know where that even is. I won`t ever know either because I don`t own a map book and I can`t look it up on street view. Actually I just Googled it. Those are a bunch of rich a$sholes in North Oaks.

1) If you don`t want someone to know something, you don`t tell them, right? If you don`t want the world to see your pics/info, how hard is it to not post them on the internet?

2) In Aus at least, Google street view legally has to censor any people it sees on the streets. I live opposite a school, and the Google van went by at home time, so there are a lot of blurred faces in my street.

3) A DNA bank would be a vast improvement and addendum to the fingerprint database currently in place, and unless you plan on comitting serious crimes, you`ve nothing to worry about.

meh. though google should be more careful about blurring out people`s faces, i really don`t think we need to be so concerned about being watched by the government and whatever unless you`re doing something the government would be concerned about. and the privacy settings are there for a reason, anyone who doesn`t change them and gets pissed when someone finds something out should only be angry with themselves.

23% of people dont change the privacy settings. If you come to think about it, that percentage are people who dont know how to use facebook, or people who just dont use it. I bet all of us changed the settings.

What do you mean? Every single thing up there is a fact, not a conspiracy theory. If they said "omg guys, they`re taking all of this info and giving it to the lizard people!!1!", that would be a stupid conspiracy theory. These are just stated facts.

I don`t care. If you are dumb enough to not change your privacy settings on Facebook then you deserve all you get. I don`t understand the google streetview controversy, a burgler could just walk past your house instead. And things like CCTV and DNA databases make no negative difference to my life.

"President Obama has backed a policy which would lead to a national database of DNA kept. On file of all people arrested, even if they have not committed a crime."

Someone explain exactly why this is a problem because I sure can`t figure out why I should be worried about this.

Who really cares? It isn`t facebooks fault is being are dumbfuls with the [rivavy settings nad post their addresses and phone numbers for the worl to know. It isn`t facebooks responsibility keep people dumb. and as for the phone calls and getting fingerprints even if you aren`t convicted of a crime that can still help with future crimes. If you have nothing to hide then what are you worried about.

@Gerry1of1 -- Agreed. Don`t post sh*t you don`t want people knowing about.

I remember when I was in high school, these girls posted pictures of themselves drinking when they were 17 on their facebook. The cops were involved, but they got lucky and weren`t sent to jail for whatever reason. For a few days, they were pissed because they didn`t want the cops to find out. Yet, they posted those pictures on facebook...

Just don`t be an idiot by putting personal info on the internet. I was taught when I was 8 years old to never do that.
And most of the info this graphic is talking about is completely public information to begin with. If some one wanted to see my house they could just drive right by it personally.
Granted, these systems could be abused by corporations or the government, so show me a single instance of this and I`ll be against it.

@Skyler92:
Probably around 150, and this was before the new privacy changes. I`m not saying I kept up with all 1400, but I would check their profile before I added them and never saw a street address listed. But like xxamsey said, they may have posted an address to an event or something; I just never saw any.

WTF does privacy even matter anymore? I have nothing to hide, why hide, if someone is willing to drive 5000 kilometers just to kill me or rob me, he`s wasting his time, he could do the same, without facebook, in his own neighborhood.

I don`t know why people are afraid of people they don`t know coming to rape them while there is so much more to rape and murder out there.

They forgot to add that free email accounts (hotmail,yahoo,gmail, etc.) aren`t free for no reason. There isn`t some kind gentle old guy with a basement full of email servers storing your poo because he really loves you. And your deleted messages just dont go poof when you hit the delete button. But don`t worry, its football season again, MMA is on, so is Dancing with the Stars so grab your sugar drinks and cheesy poofs and keep quiet.

"7% is the the amount of parents that just don`t understand that the world we live in isn`t safe anymore"

The world hasn`t changed... peoples` paranoia levels have. My mother used to tell me all the time about the days when she was a kid, where kids could go wherever they wanted as long as they were home when the street lights came on. The world is STILL like that, but parents are paranoid now. Kids are barely allowed to go trick or treating on Halloween because parents are paranoid some strange individual is gonna poison the candy. And it all stemmed from one or two cases that happened 50 years ago... The Halloween after 9/11 was a ghost town... What the hell do terrorists have to do with letting your kids out on Halloween???

All in all, I think society needs to stop being so uptight and paranoid. The more we care about such trivial bullpoo, the weaker we become...

But because most people in society are willing subjecting themselves to this situation "because we have nothing to hide" means that those who don`t wish to be monitored daily even if they have nothing to hide are still watched because if you don`t want to be watched then you are acting suspiciously.
