Stylized = laziness now? I think it`s good how Disney isn`t using the same old animation style over and over again.

P&F are awesome! At least as far as crappy Disney kid shows go. There`s at least some modicum of intelligence.

Terrible comparison is terrible. One is a scanned artist`s work, while the other is someone`s digital camera and a TV. Try harder.

Err, so different styles are equal to laziness? I`d understand if the comparison was made to a crappy cut-out show done in bad flash, but the show`s actually pretty good in terms of quality, and that`s coming from the animation buff...

Just because some people still take time to enjoy the simpler things in life does not mean they are not adults. My college-educated English teacher, who is about 40, likes Phineas and Ferb. Most people in their twenties still enjoy cartoons, and many continue enjoying them well beyond then.

No one implied by this that IAB is suddenly a children`s site. It was just a reference between the past being better than the present, because we are mostly old enough to remember 1991 and everyone likes to think things were better in their day (especially Disney).

Are you kidding me? Most of the Disney shows today are, granted, pretty terrible, but some of the oldies are classic! I still enjoy Disney movies to this day, and some of the old shows were pretty awesome. I know not everyone my age or older is still into Disney, but still, there are some of us, and I can assure you I am a lot older than 10.

They`re not getting lazier; they`re getting smarter. They realized that kids don`t care that much about animation unless it`s in 3D or something. It`s not likely that they`re going to spend money on nice animation if the profits aren`t there.

Sometimes simplicity is best for animation. It`s cultural evolution.

For instance, evolution in architecture from decorated-with-frill everywhere stone buildings to sleek glass ones.

But I like the old ones better. The new CONTENT just sucks in general.

Call me thralled with nostalgia, but Gummi Bears is a far superior show to... that other one. It had far more rounded stories, characters, arcs, etc. While that Phineas and Ferb (may have spelled that wrong), is just another generic ripoff. I think having complex stories helps shape the minds of our children, this drivel does not.

It`s not about what the animation looks like. In the end it`s what will draw kids in. Phineas (How do you pronounce that? Fine-ass?)and Ferb looks much more colorful and energetic than the Gummi Bears. I never watched the Gummi Bears since I grew up with the Raccoons and Care Bears.

And Phineas and Ferb still looks better drawn than Powerpuff Girls, except PPG are so FTW. And Samurai Jack also FTW.

It`s these damned computers. They don`t have to pay people to draw, which can be hard and time consuming. They just have two guys re-hashing old movements a thousand times because it`s cheap and easy. And looks boring and terrible.
I think Recess was probably the last great Disney cartoon. Sure, The Weekenders and Kim Possible were good, but Recess was legendary.

I don`t understand this post at all. Phineas and Ferb were created by Dan Povenmire. Drawn by hand, the old fashioned way. I`ve seen him do a demonstration on TV for how he draws Phineas, Candace, and Perry.

What exactly is the similarity with the old Disney Gummi Bears cartoon supposed to be? I`m not seeing it.

Lando... it`s not the similarities that we are comparing, it`s the fact they are so vastly different in the sense that the animation for disney in the 90s obviously took a hell of a lot more skill than some disney animation today.

Wrong. It`s just more stylized now. The animation in modern cartoons is also generally smoother than the old "still frame with a few frames of mouth animation" style of cartoons (That is to say the cartoons on TV, not the movies.)

Honestly it all just comes down to a difference of opinion, neither is actually "better" than the other, or even "lazier". For frame by frame animation, I`d say that the gummi bears characters are probably easier to draw accurately.

I am equally impressed by both. Gummi Bears was awesome though! ;)

    all asian cartoons are lower quality, that`s why they`re cheep than doing it here. I loved Speed Racer as a kid but it wasn`t great animation. All of ANIME is just crap animation with good story lines. {I know I`ll get crucified for saying that}

Maybe the artist created simple characters that are strange shapes to make them more memorable..but most likely its the laziness thing

    simple style = suck

em....no you`re just ignorant of other types of animation and styles.

and Gerry not ALL Asian animation is inferior...most animated things are from Asia now..from the Simpsons, to Animaniacs to Family Guy. It all depends on Studio, Budget and Time.

(the only American animated show that is actually made here 100% is South Park I believe)

This is ludicrous - Phineas and Ferb is hysterical! And really the animation is really good in that show, and it`s smart as hell. Loved the Gummy Bears but Phineas and Ferb is one of the better cartoons in YEARS.

I liked Adventures of the Gummi Bears as a kid. I like Phineas and Ferb, too. I don`t have a problem with the new style.

ElSombrero: But I like the old ones better. The new CONTENT just sucks in general.

To a degree, we all do. That`s why we come to I-A-B, amiright?

"All of Anime is crap"? Everyone who makes generalities is an idiot.

Do you mean Ponyo and Princess Mononoke are also crap? I believe Japanese anime has set the mark to beat for years now. Cowboy Bebop with a wonderful soundtrack also sported some amazing detail (I love the time they spent on reflections).

Phineas and Ferb is genius. Well written. I think it`s a playful show and the artistry reflects that. Realism is just one way to animate.

The fact That Phineus and Ferb is the best thing on TV since Walter Cronkite does make me sad. But the Gummi bears as an example of good animation? Fooey. Not since the Waner Bros. Shorts has thier been animation worth watching untill the computer age.

Durrr lets compare promotional artwork created for scrutiny to a screengrab from some random moment in a show and then we`ll also blur the screengrab so it doesn`t look as sharp.
I`m sure if you took some random moment from this gummi bears thing it would look ridiculously crappy.

There is a reason for everything...if you think about it.
Maybe the writters/creaters are doing that so that the children watching dont just Focus on the fancy artwork and learn to follow the story better! Its developing their listening skills rather then having them zoning out on the pretty animation! Maybe? I mean. what would you prefer to watch.... Gummi bears.. or south Park?!?! LOL Its all about the context these days!!!!

You didn`t know that the cartoon industry is degenerating. There is no plot or content anymore. Everything seems to be a bunch of competitions to see who can be more down syndrome. It could be made with stick figures for all I care so long as kids today could grow up with something less idiodic to watch. I loose brain cells just hearing my little cousins talking about these shows.

Can`t really say that for ALL cartoons, even those in entire group. There are some Japanese animations that WAY better than American (even from graphics standpoint).

Um, no, actually. Anime uses a fairly higher frame rate standard than, say, U.S. cartoons do, thus making it more fluid, etc., and so it is, by the facts, a more quality animation. I won`t go into specifics - you can easily find it, I`m sure, if you`re curious - but that`s the gist of it. It`s obvious you just don`t like the art style of anime and prefer, I`d assume, American cartoons, and that`s fine. But do some research before spouting off things like that. :\

@Nao Mi: while i agree tthat anime is just its own style dont justify your argument with false statements. The traditional anime style is made with 8 frames per second; out of a regular NTSC television which shows about roughly 24 fps, this means one image stays on the screen for 3 frames (this is referred to as triples). American animation however uses 12, so 2 frames are shown per second (doubles).

Anime in the 80`s had lower budgets. Now it`s pretty high-quality, surpassing most western animation. In contrast, compared to 80`s cartoons like the newer Looney Toons and even Scooby-Doo, todday`s western animation relies on designs not far removed from their basic blocky shapes, usually with thick outlines. An example of this is the cartoon "Kappa Mikey", where the main character is western-animated while everything else is anime-styled. South Park, Samurai Jack, and Ben10 all have the "shaped" look, but are also well-developed in plot and individual styles, for cartoons that is.
