The spider fell off because it lost its balance when the guy prodded it. How is it "attacking"?

Hey - maybe the lack of movement(the `jump` could just be lighting effects btw) is because this isn`t the spider, this is just the discarded exo-skeleton - the real spider is bigger and hiding nearby...

Ugh. I would not go anywhere near that spider. I`d just leave my house for a few days.

As soon as I saw that bowl in the guy`s hand I thought "Oh, he`s gonna crush that poor spider with a bowl that small" Am I the only one who feels sorry for the spider?

It`s not the big ones that you need to worry about, it`s the small ones like black widow, funnel web and red back.

"try sleeping with a couple of them walking around the ceiling above your bed. Impossible!"

Bollocks to that, if I knew they were living in my STREET I wouldn`t be able to sleep.

They`re not so much the type of spider you find in your bath, they`re the type of spider you find HAVING a bath.

"yeah spiders that big are just unnecessary. I would have just stared at it until it crawled to somewhere that`s NOT above my head"

I live with these spiders. They are big fast and they eat roosterroaches and geckos....but try sleeping with a couple of them walking around the ceiling above your bed. Impossible!

yeah dude....if you liked it so much...maybe you shouldn`t have used a container that had a 99% chance to snap its legs.....poo....i would have definitely just killed it...or knocked it to the ground to finish it.....ugh...i thought the scariest part of this vid was the beginning BY FAR....the beginning gave me chills...

@teampink27

How was it unnecessary? It came into his house.
Trying to catch it was completely unnecessary.

I`d try to force it out of the nearest exit rather than try to catch it.
Even if i knew it wasn`t poisonous.

Sometimes parents should listen to their high pitched children...he told you not to catch the spider.

Also, I`m gonna call not fake on this one. It twitched right before it jumped, and there`s no way you could relly predict its in-flight motion, and thses spider`s are easily that size.

Anyone with a degree in arachnology, feel free to disagree.

@SteelGrid - I have never heard of a person being bitten by a huntsman, maybe cos they don`t bite humans, or maybe cos they`re not lethal, i dunno.
They can crawl in through any tiny crack in a door jam, window, through the eaves, whatever.
And yes, we have geckos, the natives are being killed off by some sort of Asian gecko plaguing SE Queensland and keeping people awake with incessant noise.

It didn`t look like the spider attacked him intentionally. But, you never know with the giant ones, they are really smart.

Ahahahahahaha, when the spider "jumps" you can see it flapping and twisting around, surprisingly similar to a fake one...

Yea, the spider seems to `push itself up` instead of move its legs to try and escape

@ravie
normal everyday thing in Oz, those huntsmen are everywhere and btw it didnt attack him he made a complete mess of that and it just fell on him, huntsmen don`t attack people, just scare the crap out of them

Haha, even if that was fake that was pretty good. i remember spiders like that when I lived in Arizona. Nothing like walking into a room and realizing theres a huge spider chilling right above the door way. Or pulling something from a shelf only to have a huge spider come running off the shelf in your face.

After seeing the claim that this was fake I decided to look more closly at it. The spider is in fact fake. If you slow the video down you can see that the spider is pulled by someone off camera and there is tape involved. As the body raises and is pulled foward the legs do not move from their positions. After the spider is off of the ceiling it actually ragdolls instead of doing the 2 things that spiders tend to do in a freefall, either flail with their legs looking for a foothold OR spread eagle to slow its decent.

Very VERY well done but fake nonetheless.

@FatNinja01 - Actually, if you look closely enough, you can see the spider move just a split second before the dad lunges at it with the bowl.

This is so so old. The video is actually fake, he had a fake spider stuck to the roof with doubleshided tape so when he moves it it will detach and fall on him! dont worry when i first saw this i thought it was real!

oh so much human fear capture in such a tiny moment. i hate spiders...

There are so many other ways this could have been handled.....What I want to know is, how big of a hole do you have to have in the living area for that thing to get in?

Looking at the video I doubt this guy got bit. I have raised quite a few taurantulas and you can see in the video during the attempted capture that this guy actually smashes a couple of the spider`s legs. When that spider landed on him it was doing exactly what he was doing, trying to get away. Even if it escaped this guy it did not survive. Large spiders are nothing like the small ones. you crush a couple legs on a large spider and it bleeds out, quickly.

I do not know if they have any down under, but in Hawaii, keeping a couple of geckos in the house was a good thing. While it was wierd to see a lizard or 2 in the house, the cane spiders that are omipresent make it worth it.
