This commercial is getting lots of heat--it"s pretty obvious as to why...

my team could do with some blind players to replace some of the useless wasters they currently line up

Well, the commercial is funny. Only really uptight nitwits would get their panties in a bunch over this ad. The only thing I don`t get is what this Paddy Power does. It`s not explained well in the commercial. By that standard, I can`t call it a good ad. Just funny.

The only controversy I could see here is from some PETA type organization for kicking the cat. And the cat wasn`t even harmed, as seen in the end...

Other than that, seems fine to me. It`s not like it`s screaming "HA HA, YOU`RE BLIND! THAT`S FUNNY!"

Besides, has anyone actually had a blind person watch... Oh, wait... *cough*

@Seastone erm... it is actually a real sport. the eye patches are because of different levels of blindness.

That`d actually make a good sport for the blind if there was any way for them to tell where the goal boxes were. They`d be able to get some exercise in a safe environment where they aren`t "different." They`d be better than sighted people with eye masks at it, too.

Lol that`s great! Some friends and I were playing in Ghana (we got stomped X-( ), but in the process, we kicked a chicken that was wandering around on the field.

I`ve always wondered, how does a blind man know when he is done wiping his ass?

Peta doesn`t like it when I choke my chicken.

you know, i would actually get very involved with this sport were it real. it would be quite the challenge, having to play soccer by sound. not really something that could go major league, though. imagine listening for that bell over a crowd!

When I was in college (feels like a century ago) There were a few things we did with the support of the local blind assoc. chapeters like blindfolded batting practice, and blindfolded dinners, to give people that can see a little feel of what being blind is like.

I always wondered: How would you describe color to someone who was born blind?

That`s really funny... and if you`re offended you need to lighten up. It`s only funny because it would be horrible if it were real.

Nah, it`s not controversial. They showed at the end the cat was okay, so I believe "No harm, no foul" applies here.

That`s the point: it is not offensive to blind people because the commercial was their own idea (England Blind FA), and these people in the commercial are not actors, they really are the England Blind Football Association. They are REAL Blind Footballers. And they are good at it!

Problem in uk is political correctness gone mad. People assume it will offend without actually asking people. Like the Tango advert with the Old women being tango`s when got loads of complaints, when they actually spoke to a interest group for OAP`s they thought it was hilarious and good that and old women was getting hired for acting.

Plus Paddy rocks! They`ve made me a fair bit of money over the years with extra place and money backs :)

Here is the deal: This commercial was made with the full endorsement of the English Blind Football Association, who were very pleased to increase awareness of the Blind Football Championships, hosted by England. These guys have some serious skills, too, as shown here

But the BBC gets 1000 complaints a day, presumably none of those are from blind people who have never seen the ad. My friend who works with the president of Deaf Soccer USA says that it is another case of people without disabilities trying to determine what is best for people who do, rather than letting the people with disabilities (the England Blind FA) decide for themselves.

It`s not like it was real. Plus I`m sure everyone knows kicking a cat is bad.

Oh, and to 5Cats: If this site is so dumb, then why do you have over 1900 posts on it`s pages? Fail.

Okay, seriously. I am a huuuuge animal lover, and I thought this commercial was friggin` hilarious. HE DIDN`T REALLY KICK THE CAT. Seriously, anyone who`s bothered by this is either mentally retarded, or probably thinks Lord of the Rings actually happened. Wait, aren`t those the same thing...?

Just to explain: the "controversy" was with the cat getting kicked. And by "controversy" it just means that certain animal-people made a noise about it in the way that they do, and there wasn`t enough else happening to keep it out of the news.

why? They didn`t actually kick the cat. They didn`t even show him kicking a fake cat. If there is controversy over this I don`t want to know whats going on about tom and jerry.

That`s based on an old joke about a group of blind people going to the beach and playing football with a football with bells in it, then the handler being called back from the pub when someone from the beach says "he`s kicking the hell out of my donkeys/the morris dancers!"
