POLES are for STRIPPING in STRIP CLUBS and that`s it , if you think otherwise , you`re stupid. Keep children away from the poles. Encourage them once they are old enough.

"I challenge anybody who has anything to say about it being a bad thing or a sexual thing...to get up on the pole and try to pull their legs over their head."

Wait. What?

Once, not terribly long ago, the idea that a woman could put one leg either side of a horses back and ride it was totally shocking. Absolutely the same thing- all that eroticism tied up with horses. women were considered so feeble minded that it would turn them into nymphmaniacs.

I get where people say it`s good excersise and whatnot, but it`s just not age appropriate.

These days though pole dancing isn`t always sex based, it`s a clever medium to use to dance with, and I imagine it`s very good exercise.

Takes a lot of effort and muscle into it, no different than gymnastics but it`s still a little shocking to me

I think part of the problem isn`t their association while learning to pole dance, it`s after they start getting older and learn to associate it with stripping.

Pole dancing for fitness is perceived completely different than pole dancing for sexual exploitation, the important is that these girls do not cross that line in any way.

" Unless it leads to a career in the field of dancing erotically for dirty old men... then it`s completely harmless!"

So, in your own words, the act of teaching young girls pole dancing is completely harmless, except when it isn`t. Nicely put.

I have to agree with DarkFerret... only those who decide to perceive this as sexual will believe it is so. Unless it leads to a career in the field of dancing erotically for dirty old men... then it`s completely harmless!

This will surely teach them that

i agree, the only problem with it being sexual is if you make it such. its like belly dancing, that isnt supposed to be sexual, unless you make it so.

>>Technically, pole dancing doesn`t have to be of an erotic nature. It takes flexibility, strength, and athleticism. This is what they`re trying to build in the girls, not eroticism.<<

lol `no its perfectly fine to train young girls to dance on poles for my pleasure.`

Technically, pole dancing doesn`t have to be of an erotic nature. It takes flexibility, strength, and athleticism. This is what they`re trying to build in the girls, not eroticism.

If you look at some brands of what they call SPORT poles, it usually says ages 14 or 16+. If it was meant to be used for erotic dancing and not a piece of work out equipment, they`d make it for ages 18+.

Ever the skeptic, and not doing an ounce of independant research, I must say this passage seems tounge-in-cheek suspect:

"Kids love the pole. If anything, it`s hard to get them off it because they`re such naturals."

"If you read the article they do note that the kids don`t have any sexual connection to the pole and it`s strictly for fitness."

Yeah, and mothers of 6 year old beauty queens say that its the kid`s idea to do the pagents, and NOT because Mommy wants to live through her child.

I argue it is IMPOSSIBLE for the children not to eventually make the connection with the Pole being the Penis. Even little girls have a sexual part of the brain.

I mean, not to be graphic, but the kids DO in fact have a "sexual connection to the pole." The very act of pole dancing involves rubbing the vagina against the pole. The act ITSELF will be sexually stimulating.

Working the "pole" is an unambiguous reference to the penis. Not just the phrase, but the act itself. Even prepubescent female children will eventually make the association. You know, even little girls eventually understand what vaginas are for.

Phallic symbols are stimulating because deep in our subconcious we all know that Penis goes in Vagina, and thats exciting - even to kids who don`t yet understand sex.

I mean, children can learn how to masturbate - and orgasm - before even getting their first pube.

I argue there is NO WAY to "remove" the sexual connotations from the following act: a Woman using her hands on, and wrapping her legs around, a Pole. While dancing.

Justifying it by saying "oh but its GREAT exercise" is like justifying robbing banks because it leads to having more money.

Madduck, are you an idiot? Comparing riding side saddle to teaching little girls to be strippers? Yes, I`m sure the notion of not wanting women to undress in front of strangers for money will soon fall by the wayside with other quaint notions of morality.

Its not the pole- its the associations, and surely by promoting what is a great form of exercise as just that, the association can be removed. I would love to learn to poledance, but the nearest class is too far away.We do lots of things that once had immoral connotations that now we find silly. Riding side saddle is a dying art, but once no lady would have dared!!!

As long as they`re just dancing fully clothed,it`s like whatever. At least you can admire the skill instead of just staring at someone doing a crude sexual dance that requires no skill.

If they do it at school, it can become an issue, if they`re told they can`t do it in public, thats the parent telling them there is obviously something wrong with what they`re doing.

So, they tell the kids, "you can do this but if you want to exercise at recess on the fire pole, it`s not okay" ?

@Dr4K: if it`s taught in a non-sexual manner??? It`s a pole...a stripper pole....

Or the kids could just go outside and I don`t know...jump rope, play tag, play hopscotch, ride a bike, take up karate....

No, let`s take our kids to pole dancing class...

It may be good fitness but there is no reason for 5 year old girls to be exercising on a pole. Some playgrounds have poles there...what if she was at recess and started "exercising" on a pole...and the boys start watching is it still okay then? You can`t really have a kid do something and then be like "oh you can`t do this anywhere else" because then they`ll know there is something wrong with it...wait until they`re older not 7 years old there is no reason for that, there are other ways to exercise. It`s just not age appropriate.

If its taught in a non-sexual manner I see no problem with it. As a professional dancer I really respect the physicality it requires to do something like that. I think of it as being similar to doing trapeze work which can be used in a dance setting. Also I better its a killer work out and gets you in good shape. I`d kind of like to take a pole dancing class.
