This is different from cans. this has to do with the water in the cup. cans have a rim around the bottom that keeps it up, these cups are smooth on the sides.

The trick, as he makes it appear, is impossible with a glass of sloshing water. There are a number of ways to pull it off, but the cheapest and easiest way would be to put a drop of clear silicone glue on the counter and let it sit till it`s nice and thick. You can`t see it because the camera is slightly below the level of the counter. By the time the camera moves up, it`s hidden by the glasses.

parkm: A tablecloth is not needed for the balancing on salt to work, But he could also be using magicians string or several other devices found in a magicians store. Cameras are easier to fool than human eyes and these things are designed to fool people up close and in person.

Not exactly a very good trick since you know he`s using something to hold them up as the water is still moving when he lets go which should have tipped it over. I think theres blutak or some other sticky thing behind it, thats why he only moves the camera from that low angle after he balances the glasses, this couldn`t be performed in public.

No salt. I used to do this in school with pop cans. It`s just a matter of a fulcrum/lever physics. Nothing more.

I disagree. Maybe with some pop cans, but you need the salt with glasses--especially if there is no cloth on the table (can`t tell here), and if the glasses have moving water in them.

Actually, with the salt you do need a cloth on the table, if I recall correctly--and it looks like that`s what they have here.

You can do the same thing with pop cans. Just drink the pop to a little less than halfway full then gently sit the can on its bottem edge. (It might roll around a little so be carfull.) (Wave fingers about the sides of the can for added effect. :) )
