never noticed, but I guess it says something when the only movies I enjoyed from dreamworks were the shrek series and antz.

but to be fair, jack black makes that face alot, so that expression transcribed on his character made sense.

I tried watching Bee Movie with a friend the other week and the lead character was the most unbearable, least likeable character I have ever had the displeasure to watch. He kept making really unfunny quips and looking really pleased with himself.

Kung Fu Panda and the first two Shreks are the only Dreamwork films I really enjoyed. I love everything from Pixar, Cars was the weakest IMO.

@Froggybuster,

Yes there are different, but they`re also really similar, they all have a arched eyebrow and somewhat half grin.

Pixar > Dreamworks

However, Shrek (only the first one) and Kung-fu panda I will also fully endorse as well made movies with memorable comedy.

@Froggybuster: WHAT?!? You really think that Shrek compares to Monsters, Inc(which i just re-watched a couple of weeks ago and still holds true)? Wow, man. Just...wow.

Let`s face it, Shrek is right up there with Pixar`s best films. You cannot deny that.

More topically, all the Dreamworks smiles are different in the pictures. Is the author saying childrens movies should have no smiling?

"I love Pixar. Some of those movies almost make you want to cry. Toy Story 3? I was losing it."

Almost? I was bawling all through that final scene; that is my childhood, damnit! But, y`know, I cry in just about every Pixar film, they`re all so friggin` good.

I think the point here is that Pixar is wildly imaginative while Dreamworks is meh.

I love Pixar. Some of those movies almost make you want to cry. Toy Story 3? I was losing it.

except for how to train your dragon... that one was an example if what dreamworks could do if they actually took things seriously...

Seriously though, if all dreamworks films were like that one, they would actually give pixar a run for their money.

keks, i get what you are saying, its just that some of the people you listed were not making that face. you still havent shown me a face for them. it is common face in animation because it is a common face in reality.

also, screw whoever didnt like meet the robinsons. that was such a great movie.

Okay then, let`s go through some of Pixar`s short films:

Knick Knack (1989):

Geri`s Game (1997):

Boundin` (2003):

One man band (2005):

Lifted (2006):

Presto (2008):

I am not insinuating that one company is inferior or superior to the other, I`m just saying that this face is very common and it wasn`t Dreamworks who used it first.

@MrBowserPuff: She could have had a child at 18 who had a child at 18 who is now 2.5 and still be in her 30`s... it`s not like she`s the 12 y.o girl on here the other day :P

Pixar would be much much better if they weren`t working under Disney. Disney forces them to make lucrative sequels instead of more original stuff like they want (sure, the Toy Story sequels are good, but I`d rather see new stuff).

shrek 2 is still top grossing animated movie followed by finding nemo 100mil less.

lowest/highest pixar - bugs life (7.3)/TS3 (9.1) - 8.1 average (11 movies)
lowest/highest dreamworks - fish tale (5.9)/Train Dragon (8.3) - 7.0 average (16 movies)

Yup. Toy Story 3 is a classic just like 1 & 2.

I watched it online here.

Although I do think the original Shrek was a great movie by Dreamworks.

"Meet The Robinsons was just pathetic. "

Meet The Robinsons is one of my all-time favorite movies. the 6.9/10 on IMDB compared to Bolts 7.4/10 proves they were comparable movies. let me tell you, when I go into bestbuy or other stores, even 3 years after the movie release and 2 from the DVD, stores still play Meet the Robinsons, I have yet to see a place playing Bolt.

Also, on the Dreamworks side, I think that Bee Movie was Jerry Seinfeld`s best work...which isn`t really saying much.

Why would this ruin Up, SebastianLam? The point of this is that each movie put out by Pixar is inventive and different, while Dreamworks puts out the same movie over and over again. At least Dreamworks isn`t as bad as Disney`s 3D team was.

Bolt was the only mildly good movie they ever put out. Meet The Robinsons was just pathetic. Never got around to that other movie they did.

I don`t think pixar has every made a BAD film, or even an alright one.

Their `worst` film was probably cars, and even that was still a good film. Just not as good as Finding Nemo or Up.

Agreement all around. I like Dreamworks, but I feel the creativity bucket kind of has a hole in it sometimes overthere...especially when they went on their Shrek binge.

Pixar has never made a bad movie (at least, in my eyes). I think they just have their stuff together over there, because every movie is a different adventure, and every adventure is worth taking.

"Finding Nemo" is an instant classic. and "Shrek" is just too much fun. Dronkeys man! Dronkeys rule!
