    Here`s where I stand on this issue, Illegal immigrants are here "Illegally" and should be deterred and shipped back to their home countries. Sorry your country sucks but then follow the procedures to come here legally.     *Cough* I though that the US Constitution was for US citizens? Also how is it unconstitutional for a police officer to check a persons immigration status "while enforcing other laws"? If you break the law (besides just being here as an illegal immigrant)why should you be allowed to stay?

    Next time I ever get pulled over, I`m not going to give the cop my license or any identification. If he gets mad, I`ll just say "The illegal immigrants don`t have to". I don`t think it would go over very well though.

    I wasn`t aware that the US jails all its illegal immigrants and threatens to execute them all as spies absent political concessions from Mexico, like Iran does to US citizens.

    Seems to me that the vast majority of them are able to come here and earn a living. Although anecdotal, I know a woman who snuck across the border, worked for years, got treated for cancer (without paying), and then chose to go back to her country. But you`re right, we really do mistreat illegal immigrants here...

    Seems many people here are confused. Remember the declaration of independence, "We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal and endowed with certain inalienable rights by their creator, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." `All men` not just the citizens of the US have these natural born rights of life, liberty, property, pursuit of happiness, etc. By this definition there is no such thing as an `illegal` immigrant, just immigrants because they have the right of liberty.

    I do not have a problem with immigrants(illegal or otherwise), we are all immigrants in some form or fashion, I have a huge problem with public servants infringing on anybody`s natural born right of liberty. That includes the recent Arizona immigration reforms. I have a problem with foreign groups or organizations who would commit crimes to terrorize the people of our country.

    Immigrants who refuse to learn english are unable to use the justice system in the united States of America in order to defend and protect their natural born rights and well that is their loss. As long as immigrants do not infringe on anyone`s natural born rights they are free to come and go as they please.

    Now public aid such as medicare, SSI, welfare, etc. is another topic of debate.

    First, they are not saying that it`s unconstitutional to check immigration status. They are saying that it would cause too much work for the cops. The law says that if u get pulled over for speeding they will check. That will take way too much time to do that. If they rob or commit murder they already check so its just for small stupid stuff. Second...We stole this country from many other people and the United States is not a "white" nation. It`s so f**king stupid to think that.I have no problem with illegal immigrants.     Personally, I could care less about immigrants coming to this nation. That`s what our nation was founded on. What pisses me off is ILLEGAL immigrants coming into our nation.     Just FYI you prove your citizenship whenever you get pulled over and give the cop your license. Ever since 9-11 when you apply for a driver`s license, most states issuing it requires several forms of ID which when combined prove your citizenship or legal immigrant status. At least it is that way in the state of Virginia.

    This isn`t about having your drivers license on you when you`re driving. The Arizona law made it impossible for a citizen of the USA to be in AZ without ID. That`s unconstitutional and this judge should be hailed as a hero.

    It is against the law in most places to not carry ID so if a cop asks you for proof that you are who you say you are you are able to provide it. You can actually be arrested for failing to provide it.

    The main argument I`ve been hearing is that this law is "Unconstitutional", meaning against the Constitution set up to protect the well-being of legal, American citizens.

    But these people are illegal immigrants and are, therefore, not covered by the Constitution.

    BTW - a prerequisite for ANY temporary injunction is a finding by the judge of LIKELIHOOD OF SUCCESS ON THE MERITS. I.e., the judge thinks the DOJ will probably win.

    The law doesn`t allow the police to randomly ask for ID like every extreme liberal on here likes to say. People asked for ID would have already had to break the law. I guess any legal/illegal immigrants shouldn`t go around without ID speeding or breaking laws.

    If someone decides to break the law and is detained it is on them, not on the government to feel sorry and boo-hoo over them.

    Personally, I don`t care if they legalize all the illegals and call them citizens, but Arizona has a right to do what it wants so long as it is constitutional and I don`t see anything here unconstitutional.

    My whole thing is that nobody in this country should have to show proof of citizenship because a police officer suspects your illegal. If I want to walk around without my id card then i should be able to. That is a violation of my basic civil rights. There is so many horrible things going on in this world people need to just chill the f out and count they`re blessings and quit being dicks.

    There is a good reason for all of the requirements for legal immigration. It is necessary to limit the amount of immigrants so that the local economy can withstand the influx of labor supply while the demand stays static. The main reason it is so difficult is that they are forced to correct for the estimated amount of people immigrating illegally. Cut off illegal immigration and more people will be allowed to immigrate legally.

    But you can`t just "cut off" illegal immigration. It`s a fool`s errand. You would constantly have to have military personnel along the boarder and the instant you removed them illegal immigration would once again start to rise.

    We need to allow people to come to the US and find work and shelter while working towards their citizenship. A kind of probationary period. Most illegals don`t come here because they want to, they have to feed their families and themselves and can no longer do so in their homeland.

    Besides, don`t you feel any moral obligation to help these people? They are living in poverty and gang violence partly due to our own actions.

    Feel the ride: you are right on some of your points, one i have to disagree with is that not all illegals are being paid "under the table". some are using stolen ss #s and inadvertently paying taxes. Illegal immigrants CANNOT collect any type of assistance from the government, they collect it on behalf of their natural born citizen children.

    Also Arizona is a right to work state, unlike California. which means if you have 100 people applying for the same job the person willing to work for the LEAST amount of money will probably get the job. most of these illegals work for minimum wage, sometimes less, don`t get paid vacation or time off and cannot complain because they are illegal. we all fail to recognize that the companies that hire illegals are the reason that they are here in the first place.

    My great-grandparent`s emigrated to Boston during the potato famine. They were broke as a joke and half dead and if they had to go through the sh*t you have to now to become a citizen, I sure as hell wouldn`t be here. Not to mention that we did the same sh*t when the Irish came over, we complained and said they`d take our jobs and said they`d cause trouble and that`s exactly what they did.     I personally know of quite a few illegals here in Northern California and Fresno/San Joaquin Valley that pay taxes. You know why? Because often, when you get caught, paying your taxes and being a decent citizen help you gain citizenship. That`s true.

    Source: I used to bang a top-tier immigration lawyer here in San Francisco. You know who used to hire her firm? Corporations that would get caught with illegals.

    Don`t repeat stuff just cause you heard it on the news or in a tea party. Do your own research first. The immigration issue looms large in our country, but very few know or conduct any true statistical analysis. Find the information there is. Promise you`ll change your stance.

    @LuckyDucky I`m not saying we`d have a perfectly sealed border, but if had trained dogs, maybe some non lethal traps, and more trained people actually patrolling the boarder, there would be a lot less people and drugs getting through.

    And we could put a heck of a dent in the drug trade by just legalizing weed. Then when they can`t bring that up here to sell all the drug lords can fight it out with each other and decide who gets to bring in the coke and other drugs...

    @LuckyDucky What is wrong with using dogs to locate people? The police use them all the time. I am not saying train them to mall people, just aprehend them. Same thing for setting non-lethal traps? What is wrong with that? Do you think that we couldn`t come up with something that worked? Or do you just object to it because?

    Also what do you think we should do nothing? Stregthen our Canadian border which you apparently think is a more serious problem? Just forget about the border completely? Do tell!

    My point is only that with satellite images, heat sensing technology, dogs, traps, helicoptors, motion detectors, and a whole lot of people we could make it better it if we wanted. It would create jobs and it might not cost that much more than the specialized bilingual education programs for non-legals are costing us! Not that they shouldn`t have them because they`re here and they`re kids, but the fact is we just can`t have everyone come over at once!

    Make marijuana legal, and a quarter of the illegals have no reason to cross.

    Make hiring illegals a felony punishable with stiff jail time and monetary penalties, and there`s about half gone.

    The other 25% are here for admirable reasons (trying to make good for family) and shouldn`t be messed with. Make it easier for them to get work visas/citizenship.

    Yes, those percentages are out of my ass, but it sounds good no?

    I`ve been to a handful of other countries including Thailand, Philippines and Australia and they always ask for legal docs if they suspect you are a foreigner or they hear an accent. This isn`t racist it`s a great thing!

    As an outsider, I feel that I do not have enough information to really say one way or the other what is the right solution to "fix" this problem. I do have a question though. How is it fair to allow only those people that came from Mexico to stay and become citizens? Why would you not deport them? There are people from all over the world that would absolutely love to have the same opportunity (legally or illegally), but they lack a common border with America. It seems to me that in this debate there is a lot of bias towards Mexico and a complete disregard for everyone else.

    I`m not saying you should sue, but you should`ve filed a formal complaint. Allow someone in authority to break protocol even in the slightest way makes for a slippery slope.

    IF the cop had simply stopped and frisked you it would be a totally different story. By placing handcuffs on you and not allowing you to leave, you`re being detained, and an officer needs at the very least, reasonable suspicion. But hey, why make cops follow the law, its not like regular citizens have to.....wait a sec

    weird how many articles in the media keep twisting this issue into undocumented immigrant vs the white racist supremacist (aka the Daleks).

    I don`t like how illegal immigrants (from any where)just skip in queue in front of thousands of people who are trying to do the right thing by entering a foreign country legally.

    Now I don`t feel that the AZ is the best way to deal with our illegal immigration problem. I dont have a grand idea myself currently but feel that the `always carry your papers` will open the door for it to impede on some legal residences` rights. It is good that it got people talking about it especially those who live in parts of the US or outside the US who did not have tens of thousands of suspected illegal immigrants just show up in your hometown over tne last decade.

    I asked a man I know whose brother happens to be the sergeant of a police force in Arizona about the current situation in the state. I was opposed to the law prior to, but after clarification, have lost most of my opposition towards the bill. Apparently, most of the time, when they pulled someone over who was an illegal immigrant, the police for would call I.C.E. This immigration force is responsible for dealing with illegals, but would seldom come to the scene allowing many illegal immigrants off the hook. This new law apparently allows the police to arrest such illegal immigrants without the presence of I.C.E., so it isn`t so much a loss of rights and more of a gain in power for the police force. Many groups are showing opposition to this law in order to push THEIR agenda, and the media is blowing this up past what it should be. And that is my two cents.

    My whole thing is that nobody in this country should have to show proof of citizenship because a police officer suspects your illegal. If I want to walk around without my id card then i should be able to. That is a violation of my basic civil rights. There is so many horrible things going on in this world people need to just chill the f out and count they`re blessings and quit being dicks.
