Health Concerns Over Anime Circle Contact Lens

They are possibly bad for your vision, but are rather appealing anyway. Smart or not so smart, I-A-B?

is it bad that I don`t care? I thought the health risk was far more hazardous than this. but risking blindness to look like an anime character is totally ok in my book: hopefully they will go blind and die before procreating.

You can buy legal and legit contact lenses from an eye doctor that change your iris lime green...

Why doesn`t Bausch and Lomb get their poo together and make legit version of these? Silly dummies not doing SRSBSNS when SRSBSNS is at hand...

"wth it didn`t explain at all why these things are more dangerous than normal contacts, its just not FDA approved"

agreed. FDA approval doesn`t necessarily make it healthier. For instance, many pharmaceutical drugs that are FDA approved have unsettling side effects.

And, conversely, lack of FDA approval does not mean it isn`t safe. Most tattoo ink out there isn`t FDA approved, but that doesn`t mean that with proper tattoo procedure and sterilized environments, it`s somehow "deadly."

*psht* of course they`re not healthy. They`re not even close to being natural.

But whatever - it`s cool look.

It`s just the media blowing a small risk out of proportion. They all hold the same risk for infection; the only thing that would set them apart is toxins or chemicals used to make or package them.

I would never start wearing decorative contact lenses on a regular basis, purely for the reason that I think that I would then no longer be satisfied with my own eyes. As my eyes are currently a feature that I`m very happy with, I wouldn`t want to go screwing with that.

Female 137
@FLCL_Reaper Then just don`t wear them. You don`t even open your eyes in pictures you like of yourself, I don`t see contacts being useful to you anyway.

As I said before, I have worn circle lenses for years, no health problems. I wear Wonder Eye Green (Super Nudy Green)`s and they don`t look freakish but I have large eyes anyway. I get complements on them all the time and have never received any kind of negative reaction. They are large but they don`t look animeish- don`t look like Gaga does in that video. These lenses actually became popular when the Ulzang`s started wearing them. Anime didn`t even really start this.

Oh please, people have been buying contacts off the internet for years before lady gaga. And their segment basically said the risks are the same as ordinary contacts -.-;; I mean, I`ve had contacts shatter in my eye (soft, disposable ones) so I wouldn`t really be worried about wearing some from the internet.

If they`re illegal and are likely to be causing health issues due to the fact that they`re not fitted or made to regulations; surely the issue could be resolved by making them properly and selling them legally with the right prescriptions?

Alright, people, let`s stop feeding the troll. Eventually he`ll starve or move on.

As for lolchris... We weren`t ganging up on a minority opinion, we were putting down a retarded opinion. Like Scientology.

And no, people aren`t "clamoring to buy them because of Lady Gaga`s video," the news is just claiming that because it`s easier for them to blame a trend on a well-known celebrity. It happens all the time.

People have been buying and wearing these contacts since LONG before Lady Gaga`s video, and people will continue to buy them and wear them after her popularity fades.

(Edited so people wouldn`t point out my mistake and use it against me...)

The people in the video are misinformed. Circle lenses have been around for like 10 years. Women have been wearing them all over the world way before Lady Gaga was famous.

Even So, everyone gets their ideas from someone else. Like you never styled your hair or wore clothes that you saw someone else sporting and liked the look of. Parts of your appearance were stolen from other people, I guarentee it. You got that look from someone else. Does that mean you irationally idolize that person and should copy them exactly? Of course not. You just liked how they did their hair and wondered how it would look on you.

Actually the video says, "Pop star Lady Gaga`s bad romance video has lots of young girls clambering to buy those contact lenses," so I think I can say that most of the contact lenses are being bought for the sake of looking like Lady Gaga.

As per usual, it`s another case of the media claiming that a celebrity/movie/whatever started a trend that was around long before them. They don`t even notice a trend until something famous seems involved.

As for whether I like them... They are kinda cool looking. And I know that there are people who sell them at anime conventions and all that, usually for around 40-80 bucks, but a little cheaper online.
Hand painted contact lenses are usually 150,200 bucks and up... probably a whole different quality level.
Not so much quality level, as the fact that the companies that charge that much have been *insert government regulatory faction here*-approved, so they can claim their`s are better and get away with raping your wallet.

My lenses are 20 dollars, and they aren`t cheap as far as the quality goes. They are just as durable/breathable as the colour lenses sold for much more. Its just `cheaper` because they are made in korea.

Not commenting on this anymore because its really annoying this audio auto plays, please change that, its intrusive.

I`m not sure the issue is the contacts themselves; I think it is more the issue of getting low quality ones from out of the country for "20 bucks". Hand painted contact lenses are usually 150,200 bucks and up... probably a whole different quality level.

I really don`t see how in any of their explanations they made circle lens out to be anything more than regular contact lens. Just propaganda, I suppose.
