@mountain:

More impressive (stupid) would be to street skate barefoot.

Longboarders tend not to push a lot hehehe.

As long as you can keep up with traffic you can be riding a dolphin, for all I care.

The dude with barefeet and short pants is nuts. The only way You`d see me here is with a complete set of hard plastic body armor.

That must be one bad-ass hill. I can`t think of any other way to maintain that incredible speed with so little pushing.

At those speeds, pebbles aren`t much to worry about. Cracks and rocks, maybe, but pebbles are only dangerous at low speeds, at those speeds, the board either goes right over it or chucks it out of the way.

"They had complete control, and I would say they were so skilled in fact, that they we not risking themselves, or others (motorists).

Now, had they seen a crack, or a pebble, or roadkill. That would have been a sick bail."

Whilst I know the skill involved as I longboard, (slalom & downhill) going on an in-use motorway is incredibly stupid, and not wearing leathers (or even shoes!) at those speeds is even more so.. Even if you are `professional` you don`t always anticipate every crack or what the cars are going to do!

To all those saying, "Lucky they didn`t hit a pebble", the guys here were riding Drop Down Decks, which means that a small rock wouldn`t have any effect on them. A Drop Down Deck looks like this:

Also, @smurficle, I resemble that remark! And they were Canadian, anyway. :P

auburnjunky-
good point, they probably have really tight trucks to help with the wobbles as well, less control, but they really didnt need to turn much anyway since they chose a straightaway

Quick lesson on longboarding so you guys will see how badass these guys are.

Now, a typical skateboard can get a speed of about 15 MPH before the wobbles throw them off. Longboards are not so different, as you can get a good 25 MPH run going before it gets scary, BUT;

These guys are going 45-50. The skill it takes to bend over in that crouch, and look around, all the time correcting your boards wobble (at speed the board becomes unstable and changes direction about once every half second) while looking for cracks, rocks, and roadkill.

Lots and lots of skill.

They had complete control, and I would say they were so skilled in fact, that they we not risking themselves, or others (motorists).

Now, had they seen a crack, or a pebble, or roadkill. That would have been a sick bail.

If you have any knowledge of long boarding you`d know you don`t just pick it up and go down the high way, cause you`ll wreck and drat yourself up. If you can`t see that your a dumbass. This poo aint easy

Courage? Nah. Humans are pretty durable and capable of fine manuevering (not that it takes that to roll down a hill). Most probably, nothing would happen, 99% of the time.

Stupid? Absolutely. As a driver who sees stupid non-nice individuals doing stupid crap all the time on the roads (one idiot nearly crashed into me in a parking lot yesterday, wtf?), I hate all people who put other road users in danger. Seriously, they could cause another car to swerve, hit them, hit another car, a tree, etc. Highways are designed to be safe, but at speeds over 100 km/h ANY risk could be fatal.

Those are longboards and can go pretty f*ckin` fast given the chance, they take practice to manoeuvre and so I approve of this video. You always take chances with you safety when skateboard anyways, part of the fun XD

"Loxen, longboarders are not what you think of as "sk8`rs." Did you even watch the video before opening your ass to talk? "

You can think long boarding is somehow special and different all you like, its the same crap to me. Yep, I watched that. Yep, I still dislike stupid people doing stupid things on a board+wheels.

Also, my ass is tight, and petite. If it talked, I could probably make a lot of money. SO thanks a ton for reminding me that I lack ass speech. Man, some peps can be so insensitive to others disabilities.

That is illegal, and I am, if nothing else, an entirely upstanding person who never, not once in my life, has violated any law. Therefore, I say poo poo!

Just kidding, looks ballsy.

@ WeePee: this is the main road (State Highway 1) of New Zealand that leaves the biggest city in the country. This is 4 lanes wide. In USA it`s called a highway.

wow. skateboard at high speed while wearing shorts, t-shirt, and no shoes...but he`s got a helmet!

He just increased his chances of survival long enough to be in serious pain should he crash.

or maybe he`ll be paralyzed and won`t feel a thing. Lucky him.

Loxen, longboarders are not what you think of as "sk8`rs." Did you even watch the video before opening your ass to talk?

Also, the truck obviously saw them and was cautious. Why do you think he booked it at the end to make the offramp?

Would I do it? No, I`m too chicken.
Do I like it? Yes.

Stupid, but only because he put other people at risk. If the road was closed, I`m all for him doing whatever he wants, but don`t risk your life and limb where a simple slip up can put you under the wheels of my car and send me careening off the road.

I hate to be a sk8`r h8`r ...but I`ve never found much liking for the genre. Perhaps I`ve been overly influenced by countless nad shots and supermen falling off rooftops. But wow... lots of tards skate. Sorry to stereotype. :/
