My friends and I encountered that dinosaur on New Years Day.

Most of us were tripping at the time, and it scared the hell out of us.

A-mazing. Forget the fact I can see the leg, that`s pretty damn cool and it looks pretty difficult to be able to control those things. Those actors can`t really see what their dino looks like on the outside and yet they do a very good job on moving the dinos in a way we would find realistic, despite no one ever seeing a dinosaur before.
Coooool.

wow i didn`t notice the legs until I read the commments. Seriously though that must`ve cost a lot of money to make and to make the legs stick out akwardly like that? What a waste of money

It was cool until I noticed how badly they hid the human legs. D: Really?! After all that work on those wonderful costumes... *shakes head* That was a let down.

Awesome. I was a bit disappointed when I saw the legs, and to be quite honest, it took me a while, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Give the kids some fun, aye?

There must be some kind of counter-weight system inside those, sort of like a film camera arm. Anyone have any links for the inner-workings?

To make up for the legs, they need to make a life-like seismosaurus.

No, I`m sorry but the puppeters skill is to animate the character they are playing, these guys did that brilliantly. Yes you can see legs, but we all had a bit of wonder and amazement before we did. Before the sad, bitter, cynical conditioning kicked in. Just now`n`again it`s nice to drop that and enjoy theater for what it is like we used to when we were kids, or are you all to old for that?! Does no-one remember The Muppets? Anyone who says this isn`t awesome is dead inside.

"now just make the human legs less obvious and you`ve got yourself some pretty badass dinosaurs"

In a darkened arena, where they put on these shows (from what I understand), they wear black tights and are barely visible.

Unfortunately, do to physiological differences, it is impossible to have people in the costumes without showing the legs. The dinosaur`s so-called `knees` are actually its ankles. You can see the same skeletal structure in dogs and horses.

Awesome display, in any event.

I`m not sure if this is the same as the "walking with dinosaurs" show thing that travels around, but I`ve gone to see it twice and I loved it :3 I don`t care much if some of them have legs sticking out, it`s still a really neat experience

@Barbarossa69 Compsagnathus was the chicken/small dog one, though yeah, velociraptors were nowhere near the size of the Jurassic Park ones. They were more like a german shepherd or some other big dog, around 2.5 - 3 feet high.

Velociraptors were tiny, Evil Eye, it`s impossible to fit an average adult human into one. And not every dinosaur was a velociraptor. I like to think that at least one of these in the clip is an erectopus. Just because "erectopus" sounds funny.

I bet you people would go to a puppet show and be all like, "It was awesome, but they had these STRINGS! You could see them, as if somehow, they were being move around by a person! Just terrible!"
0
Reply
Male 4,014
Those are sweet as hell. Yes, they are costumes, but still, their movements are amazingly lifelike. There is a show they put on in arenas. Robots still couldn`t move as organically (nor as safely around children).

I`m NOT disappointed because they are awesome. Its called suspension of disbelief, GET IT!

Knowing that there were humans inside operating them like puppets kind of ruined the illusion for me. If they were either fully hidden inside or fully robotic, I would be very impressed.
