Yankees eat pizza and crab cakes man! This is Confederate food :)
America is fat because our food is awesome. European food well.. blood pudding, spotted d!ck and really wtf is a scone. Only poor people eat paper here. But Europe does have awesome liquor and heroin, guess that explains alot. ;)

It`s actually from a book. The average cupcake is supposed to be a brownie. It`s supposed to be a TV dinner made entirely of cupcakes.

I think the problem with this particular post is that the fat American joke seems kind of random and tacked on for no reason, although admittedly most of the posts at IAB have some sort of stereotype randomly tacked on to the description for laughs.

Anyways, my point is that with most other national stereotypes, no one actually buys into it. Very, very few of the American IABers here actually think that France is comprised solely of wussies, or that the English really do all have bad teeth, but when someone posts an American stereotype it seems like half of the comments from Europeans are about how much this makes them hate Americans, or such.

Clearly there are a good number of Europeans who are buying into the stereotypes, and, by there own words, "hate" Americans for them. And that`s what`s really aggravating.

`The problem isn`t that people are making fun of Americans, the problem is that there are far too many people who buy into the stereotypes and choose to base their prejudices off of them. `

I don`t agree with people justifying and basing their prejudices on stereotypes either, but it does seem in this case that many Americans are happy to do just that and go along with the `joke` when it`s in regards to other countries, but as soon as the table`s turned they get incredibly defensive and outraged. Which isn`t to say all Americans are like that, of course they aren`t, but the reaction to this post has been pretty telling for everyone outside the US who also sees the responses to all the other `insert vaguely offensive national stereotype here` posts on IAB (often in regards to their own country, which are generally taken in stride, disregarding the small number who are always determined to be offended).
That`s just how it appears to me.

The problem isn`t that people are making fun of Americans, the problem is that there are far too many people who buy into the stereotypes and choose to base their prejudices off of them.

It`s funny when someone makes a clever post, but too often people respond with a sincere, "This is why I hate Americans." It`s one thing to joke about stereotypes like how African-Americans like watermelon and kool-aid, it`s another thing to serve it and only it to a black friend when you invite them over for dinner based on a sincere belief that that is what they want.

On the other hand I do think someone else made a good point about how we`re basically guilty of doing the same things with Japan`s eccentricity.

Wow gatorade 75% of maryland is normal healthy weight and 20% are anorexic... so you are claiming only 5% of the population is obese because i`ve just done a little research and the average obesity levels in the USA are 66% ish. Is the whole state in a famine zone or are you just full of crap.

P.S you really need to get a few more doctors because if 20% of your population have annorexia you have a serious f-ing problem

P.P.S Get a sense of humour while you are out getting the doctors, i hope we never see you jump on a bandwagon (as im sure you never do) or somebody might accuse you of being a hypocrite

Screw sense of self deprecation, in my mind it isn`t about that. Merely reading the link sets me on edge, it needlessly goes much farther than labeling americans as fat. I imagine somebody saying this sort of thing to my face would say it aggressively, would punctuate the last word with a good amount of spittle and an unfriendly sneer, maybe spit on my shoes.
It does not have the tone or feel of a joke where past (and I`m sure future) links may have. If he next "Japan is screwy" link were to have the same tone, people would be not be amused.

I am a Yank but I have a six pack and I am 38. Most people my age and even younger think that it is a given that they will have fat. People are not active enough and eat too much crap. The additives we put into our foods is sickening. High fructose corn syrup is the main culprit. There have been studies that have established a direct link between HFCS and the obesity epidemic. It`s in bread, soda, ketchup, almost anything that uses sugar in the US substitutes for the cheaper syrup. The gov`t doesn`t care because the use of the corn derivative helps to keep the farm industry going. Just try to import pure sugar and see what taxes you get slammed with. I`d eat one of these cupcakes made with real sugar, I assume, before I`d drink a coke.

All joking aside though, it`s sad what`s happened to the pacific islanders since we `civilised` them with our modern ways and processed foods. Obesity levels have absolutely soared to the point that something like 90%+ of all adults are clinically obese. Possibly one of the last thing these people REALLY needed was a McDonalds? Maybe better healthcare and education would have been a better concept to introduce?

We KNOW this. We just aren`t up you your exacting standards of obesity yet. But cheer up, we`ll try to put a bit of extra effort in over the next week and hopefully get back to you with better results next time, chubby.

I notice the more new stories that are published that point out that England and Australia and pretty much every where on the globe, has more obese adults than the US now or is just as bad, the more internet trolls talk about "Fat Americans" as if they can keep saying it and people won`t notice that their own country is pretty much full of big fat cows.

gatorade, I take comfort in knowing that everyone`s BMI states that they are in fact, obese. Not every post is about fat americans anyways. It looks like we get more stupid posts when fancy is gone. He is back anyways, so maybe he will rein the others in a bit :)

I really don`t get bothered by offensive either. I`m more angry by the fact that this site used to have tons of funny stuff and now its overrun with the same stupid jokes appealing to the same demographics. Since I`m 18 and 140lbs I`m not offended and if you guys want to think america is fat thats great, but can we move on and not see the same thing everyday. I didnt realize someone was filling for Fancy so im relieved and will shut up. Its not funny because its true, its funny because people think its true. That`s the point of making stereotypical remarks, its satire and you should f*cking get used to it. I think it`s funny that when a caption says, "Yet another creepy Japanese commercial," or, "This one`s definitely Japan," we all jump on the band wagon and start talking about how screwed up Japan is, because, I mean, obviously all of Japan is all creepy and all screwed up. As soon as the fat American stereotype pops up, all the sudden it`s dumb and unfunny and IAB needs to stop making fun of something that doesn`t apply to everyone in the nation.

I don`t mind the whole thing really, but at the very least make the tagline relevant to the content. I mean, who knows, maybe the cupcakes were made in japan, or england. There is nothing in that picture that points to America.

I`ve visited many parts of England and everyone there is disgusting. Everywhere I went they were eating KFC and McDonalds. It`s like they took the worst part of America and made is their only source of food. Then America gets targeted as the fatty because it`s where the food originated. I can`t other states of America aren`t fat but in Maryland where I live the 75% majority is at the standard weight for health and another 20% is anorexic or underweight. I`m not big on conflict and debating and hate getting passionate but logging in to IAB everyday to see America getting ridiculed is ridiculous because it`s not true. People arguing about religion and politics is great because both opinions can be valid but in this instance it`s not and the people that administrate the site are trolls themselves that like all this drama I guess so people comment more. I liked this community a lot more years back.
