I am really pissed. But not because of the oil spill. The EPA took 13 days to even write a damn memo about this mess and the Obama administrations only action so far as been to "sue sue sue" and the private sector has been scrambling to get it cleaned up. I rarely agree with bill Clinton but he recently had a point. Lawsuits should be the LAST thing on anyones mind right now, getting this messed cleaned up should be the FIRST. But it wasn`t the first thing on Obamas mind. He was SO EAGER to discredit, sue and emptty the pockets of the oil industry and institute oil drilling bans that cleaning up the mess was his administrations LAST priority.

the damage is absolutely not "done" there is still thousands upon thousands of gallons of oil still spilling out of this pipe, its gonna take YEARS for them to even get part of it cleaned up, maybe even decades if there are more storms out on the ocean and it comes around florida with the current, give it a year, they will see oil surrounding the statue of liberty. people will pick up balls of oil and throw them at Lady Liberty. mankind will pay dearly, and will never see the end of this. it is the beginning of the end.

"@auburnjunky What motivates you to defend big oil?"

The fact that I drive my car for a living, and I don`t want gas prices to go up.

Also, I am not defending big oil. WTF is big oil. Would small oil be any better?

Fact is, BP didn`t cause this. Lax safety regulations did this. Also, BP was renting the rig. Trans Ocean ran it.

Out of the 250 employees on the rig, there were 9 BP employees.

    Getting pissed won`t solve anything.

I understand that complaining is not going to do anything about anything, and that we pretty much rely on oil, but seriously, the gulf is never going to be the same, and frankly, it is crazy that absolutely nothing has been done. I`m not hating on BP, or oil companies period, I`m hating on whoever is taking their sweet time planning a relief. There are hundreds of ideas rolling around. Please. Dolphins and whales are dying, and we are next. I know I can`t do much, but if anyone should listen, I think our future can be hugely affected by the lack of attention to videos like this. Will the gulf ever be the same again? First the gulf, next, the world. This is ridiculous.

    -----------
AJ for once in your life, you`re absolutely right. Lax regulation caused this. More regulation of the industry is needed. I`m sure the teabagger in you wouldn`t appreciate the increased gas tax to pay for enforcement of these more stringent regulations though.

Ultimately whether they rent the rig or not with faulty equipment. They were responsible to make sure all the equipment meets requirements.

It`s like you renting a boat and taking out on the lake. Even though you as the renter didn`t build it. Even though the company originally checked it out. You as the Captain need to inspect for safety.

Bottom line is BP should have had their inspectors check to see if the rig was up to snuff before drilling oil.

That is why still today all pilots check their plane outside and inside before authorizing for take off.

Humans... the worst parasites the world has ever known. Our cities and industries cancers of the land, unstoppable growth just like cancer, won`t know we`ve done too much damage until we`re all drowning in our own scum.

Oh how we`ve complicated everything in the name of knowing more, living easy and not being `animals`, and the irony of it all is that we know nothing more, our lives are harder and more complex than ever before, and animals live easier than we could imagine.
    C`mon everybody! Let`s be civilized. ;)

What was BP`s, Shell`s, and whatever other oil companies` collective incomes in the last financial year? Suppose they spend some (i don`t have the data, so won`t hazard to say all, or 50% OR 10%, whatever) to vacuum up the oil, and recycle or dispose of it more safely, thus restoring consumer and investor confidence in the companies, thus helping their own company in the future?

Also, recently say an article (maybe on IAB, not sure) which stated that in West Africa, entire villages are swamped regularly with oil, on a colossal scale, because whoever owns the pipes running through the jungle won`t maintain them, or secure them, so they are subject to terrorism and deterioration. Where`s the help for those villagers?

I thought the "real solution" is drilling the relief wells which are set to be complete by the end of July to Mid August. Then they are using oil eating fungi to convert the oil into food for plankton, which will take about 6 months to balance the negative effects of the oil spill and shortly thereafter reverse the effects temporarily until natural homeostasis restores some degree of habitat normalization by next summer.

What we should be doing in the meantime is preventing similar incidents from happening in the future, while supporting the people attempting to execute these currently engineered solutions.

And where are the criminals that aloud this to happen in the first place? Why aren`t they put to "torch" as well?

Oh, wait that`s in the States, the grand home of neo-liberal economics; practiced by democrats and republicans alike; where Big Business makes the rules as they see fit. Why do the citizens of that country allow this disregard of their land, air, water, and persons to continue at such a disastrous rate?

BP`s safety issues come mainly from an aquisition of an American Company and they were sorting them out but takes time. This is Trolling IAB , and attacking and destroying BP which has seemed to be the intent of many americans wont help. Th Gov. isnt doing a good job or cleaning it up. BP is doing all that is humanly possible to solve this problem, destroying their stock price and cash flow wont help. Who will pay to clean up the mess if they go bankrupt.

They would have been better of learning from other companies and holding up everyone in litigation not taking responsibility like in the Exxon spill or Bhopal incident, till the time they`re held accountable all the people claiming are dead or near enough. And where is the anger at all the other companies involved???
