Hitler used signs during his election campaign.

    So did Obama.

    Therefore Obama = Hitler.

...It works if you use some of the logic in these signs anyway.

The only one of those that I actually liked (as an Obama-disliker myself) was #4. The one about Chicken voting for Colonel Sanders. Rather than make wild accusations, it identified a point about taxpayers paying more than they did before.

Take note, if you want to get your points across don`t make stark accusations. Stick to facts, and not facts that are mistakable.

    Stupid is as stupid does.

    On an unrelated note:

"but it looks like hes doing good for the country from this side of the pond"

The weird thing is, sentiment like that makes right-wingers hate Obama even more. Because in their right-wing logic, if he`s like abroad, he must be selling out America (instead of, you know, maintaining good relationships with Allies).

The first one is actually from where I live. >.< It just got put up in the past few days. The local news station said that the national tea party did not authorize nor stand by that billboard, though. Hmm...

There`s a fine, fine line between freedom of speech and slander, and these Tea-Baggers are milking that distinction for all it`s worth. I can`t stand when people say these things about elected officials. It`s one thing to poke fun at someone who makes a bad decision; it`s another thing entirely to make unfounded accusations about someone who is genuinely trying to make things better, even if you don`t necessarily agree with what their methods are. At least Obama`s getting off his ass and DOING something, unlike the last guy.

The birth certificate thing is funny to me. How can Americans cling to the belief that they are "the greatest democracy in the world", when immigrants are excluded from the right to run for the Presidency?

The people who insist that Obama "really is American", confuse me. The real response to those who isn`t he can`t be President because he wasn`t born in the US should be "why not?"

@Walter: It`s because, Constitutionally, the president MUST be a natural-born US citizen. The constitution was written in a time when anti-British sentiment was still rather high, and it has never been struck down because it would cause an outcry from the majority of Americans who wear tinfoil hats and think that anyone foreign is here to ruin the country.

Ironically, it`s alright for foreigners to run for public office (Including Governor, although Ah-nold isn`t exactly the best example for that...).

It`s as soon as this conservative post shows up, the $h@t hits the fan. I know I`m asphyxiating from all the B.S, so those who protest can shut up and take it. What goes around comes around.

Truth is, EVERY president we ever had, or ever WILL, have, will face people that disagree with their actions SO MUCH, they will start putting labels on them that make them out to be worse than they are.

    -Nixon was a crook... PERIOD
    -Reagan fuucked the economy
-Bush Sr sent us to a completely pointless war and FURTHER fuucked the economy
-Clinton, the best president we`ve had since Kennedy (at least in an economical sense), got in trouble for getting a little love on the side...
-Bush Jr... Do I REALLY need to explain his fuuck ups?
    - Obama has made a few errors, but you can`t blame HIM for the things that are wrong. Blame those who came before him for GIVING HIM SOMETHING TO FIX to begin with. If our country was in good shape from day 1, Obama wouldn`t be getting all the bad PR. People fear change and would rather our broken system REMAIN broken than go through the frightening process of changing for the better.

"the greatest democracy in the world"

US is not a Democracy... Its a Republic. Always has been. (Want proof? Recite the Pledge of Allegiance.) If it were a Democracy, by definition, we`d have no need for the Senate, The House of Representatives, or even Governors...

If one were to actually REALLY examine the format of our government, they`d actually find a Plutocracy (meaning rule by the wealthy, or power provided by wealth). This was admitted, even jokingly, by Kevin Phillips, whom was a political strategist for Richard Nixon.

Hitler for "National Socialism"? Um, no. The party`s name had socialism in it, but the Nazi`s were fascists, which are on the far right of the spectrum. Basically, the extreme form of conservatives/Republicans. They want communism on there, with a picture of Stalin or something.

"The party`s name had socialism in it, but the Nazi`s were fascists"

Because the Nazis approached it the exact same way our forefathers did... Tell the masses that you`re a socialist government until they believe it, relying on the idea that most uninformed don;t know what defines Socialism, and run as a Fascist government with no one knowing the wiser...

Our forefathers put together a REPUBLIC government and told everyone that we stood for Democracy, which makes no sense because in all technicality, the two are complete polar opposites. Those uninformed went on to believe we are truly a Democracy and the government continues to serve as a Republic.

News Flash people... Politicians lie to you... to your face... and have no regard at all for whether you`re intelligent enough to KNOW you`re being lied to.

    I`m very happy.

He`s respectable, he`s honest (don`t believe me? go on politifact.com), but most importantly, he`s working for America as a whole and not just for his own power and wealth, unlike the Republican party who are willing to overexaggerate and lie so their gullible and idiotic supporters will go out in the streets and start protesting because to them, politics is all about who can scream the loudest. Meanwhile your politicians are shooting down every single piece of legislation aimed at aiding the economy and then blaming the democrats for the state of the country, when your party put it in that state, and is keeping it in that state in order to undermine Obama just so you can put another dumbass into office at the next election.

Really? Because what I remember is that Bush caused more human suffering when he sent in the National Guard and FEMA than Obama did calling on the Coast Gaurd a week after the well blew. BTW this is BP`s mess not the Federal Government`s. The Federal Government is only a reason why it happened. It is only BP we have to blame, they should pay for it by cleaning it up AND financially.

"Obama doesnt care about what was broken he just wanted to pass his health care plan."

And with that you have proven that you have no knowledge of politics and probably just listen to what the right-wing media tells you.

Take a look at this and that.

Obama`s been up to a lot more than you`re told by Fox News.

I love the fact that when Barack Obama came into office, he was handed a country that had been flushed down the toilet over the course of 8 years. He`s been in office less than two and is expected to work miracles overnight?!?! He wasn`t in office 100 days before the moron republicans started screaming he`s ineffective and horrible. And health care does not equal welfare morons. When the economy goes down the toilet (Thank you Dubya!), what the common guy deals with first is the loss of basic health care. People are now forced to make tough decisions like "lose my health care or lose my home?"...health care is always the first to go. Not to mention the common man is getting anally raped on health insurance because of the greedy companies jacking rates to line their pockets. That`s why health care was a top issue. Has NOTHING to do with trying to make the US socialist.

    "politifact.com...propeganda to support him"

The website calls out both Republicans and Democrats (including Obama) when they lie or go against their word. Geez, those Republicans really are brainwashing you guys, eh? Anything at all that proves your party is a giant pile of wank and it must be "DEMOCRATIC PROPAGANDA".

Oh, and believe me, if the Republican Party put Sarah Palin up for presidency, Obama will be re-elected, and if not, then we all have a real reason to be afraid.

Your lack of political knowledge (along with spelling and grammar) disturbs me. I`m out of here.

Radical leader? Is he hell as like. He`s a moderate.

@Djer nice try at a logical analogy, but thats not equivalent or valid. Anyway, all media is swayed someway or another. The government isn`t doing anything to help the economy, thats with liberalism or conservative views. To revitalize the economy people need the faith in it. Thats what the national debt is for. It will take employers who will take a chance and hire people and people who will take a chance and buy. It goes in a cycle, but its not like politicians are going to listen to anyone. All anyone cares about today is his own ass, including Obama. Don`t be fed biased news bullpoo, all stations are owned by corporations which allow somethings through and some not. The thing about Obama that pisses me off is his judicial appointments. The judicial branch doesn`t need a liberal interpretation. It needs to be strictly interpreted for supreme court to make decisions not say one thing only to be taken back a couple of years later.

I want it to be very clear that the Tea Party is JUST THE REPUBLICAN BASE. FACT.

"Whether Tea Party supporters are a voting segment that is unique and distinct from the more traditional Republican conservative base . . . appears questionable."

Don`t forget that. These nutjobs are just the same old right-wing Republicans we`ve seen for years, and they are just really angry that the Democrats have the audacity to try and clean up the fricken disaster that Republican governance wrought.

WHAT IDEAS DO REPUBLICANS HAVE THIS YEAR? Ohhhh, tax cuts for the rich! Protecting corporations from responsibility for environmental damage! Cutting unemployment benefits during periods of very high unemployment! HOW NEW! HOW REFRESHING!

Thats not at all what I`m saying. What I`m saying is that the weak on-the-fence interpretation is not what the judicial branch needs. Plenty of conservatives have a liberal enough view to appease to most democrats, and having conservative justices will keep supreme court decisions simple and in effect long enough for society to change the decision, not some sway in opinion of a justice.

"having conservative justices will keep supreme court decisions simple and in effect long enough for society to change the decision"

lol, you have NO idea what you are talking about. No idea, as if "conservative" justices keep things "simple." Have you read Supreme Court opinions? Cases don`t get to the Supreme Court that are "simple," otherwise there wouldn`t be a tough question.

As for "respect for precedent" - The Roberts court overturned 100 years of precedent in Citizens United, after America had gotten used to the idea that Rich Corporations and Unions couldn`t just spend whatever amount of money they wanted to influence elections. Instead, the pro-business Conservatives simply threw it all out, ignoring entrenched precedent.

"keep supreme court decisions simple." lol! thats cute!

I will say one thing though - at least Tea Party Republicans don`t gay bash or Bible thump, so Republicans are making progress towards joining the 21st Century. (Well, they still race-bait, and Muslim bash, but progress is progress).

The only thing living free in a Republican government is big business... The people suffer... I don;t know about everyone here, but I was taught in middle school that the biggest discernible difference between the Dems and GOP is that the GOP focuses on providing cuts to the wealthy and to big business, while Democrats would rather aim their breaks to the middle and lower class...

That headline is from TODAY. Why, if Tea Partiers aren`t reliable Republican votes, is the Michigan GOP concerned with a "Tea Party" being registered in Michigan? I mean, if they are SO independent, why does the GOP want to ensure voters aren`t "confused?"

For those who support/like Obama, I have a challenge for you.

First, give 50% of your money to the government. Then go out and spend all the cash you`ve got. Then take out as many loans as the banks will give you. Then max out ALL your credit cards...

Once you`ve done that, wait a couple months and come back and tell me how you`re doing.

Every individual has to live within a budget and when we don`t, we get into a world of trouble. Why should the federal government essentially have a credit card with no limits?

I never got a job from a poor man

Finally, I love how Obama and the left demonize "rich people"...has anyone looked at their personal wealth?

    Let`s see...

Basically, what we need to do is convince /b/ that the government and banks are overrun with Scientologists.

After that, we convince /k/ that the government`s gonna take away their guns, so they should give them to all the /b/tards who are gonna start a revolution.

Afterwards, in the chaos when everyone is trying to figure out which anon should be in charge... We kick all their asses back to 4chan and set up a stable, working government.

What does everyone think of my plan?

Thomas Jefferson once wrote in a letter:

    Point #3:

    Point #4:

I always get a kick out of how the salivating Tea-Baggers call for a return to American Values, back to the good ol` days. America`s being stolen from under our feet etc etc.

What they`re really calling for is for the America of the 1950`s, which was a great time. As long as you were a Heterosexual Non-disabled Middle-to-Upper Class White American Male. And don`t even TALK to me about President Barack HUSSEIN Obama! Hussein sounds vaguely threatening, let`s throw that into every f*cking rally.

Man, those were the days, right Teabaggers?!? Let`s go back to that, for that`s the REAL America! Right?

Have you teabaggers got ANY idea how the rest of the World perceives you? In case you need a hint, the key word is a$$hole.

But hey, who am I to talk? I`m no American. You guys do your thing, while we in the rest of the World keep facing our palms and heading our desks, repeatedly, and at considerable velocity.

Well you know I actually did some research turns out Transocean, in fact, has a spotty track record before 2008. But that`s the thing, had BP considered this seriously they could`ve avoided the lease altogether ergo this whole situation they`re in. Am I wrong in saying that when you lease something you are responsible for what happens with what you are leasing? Not only did they lease the well they also leased that section of the ocean floor.

I agree Cajun, but in the same breath, I must say that Trans Ocean shares responsibility for being the ones working the rig. BP was leasing them, so they are responsible for anything that happens while they `own` it. Its like renting a car. You can;t get into an accident with a rental car and say, "Well, its a rental car, so the rental company is 100% responsible." You take some of that responsibility yourself as well because YOU were the one who got into the accident.

Wildcats, the rules are different when you`re talking about governments... It SHOULDN`T be so, but it is. As citizens, or businesses, we have a set PHYSICAL amount of money to rely upon at any one given time, when that money runs out, and our credit is spent up, we are at a loss. The government doesn`t have to work within the frame of money that physically exists. It can throw out numbers like 24 BILLION dollars and start working with it without there actually BEING $24 Billion lying around anywhere.

So shouldn`t we hold our elected representatives accountable and demand that they stop spending money that isn`t there (a la money we don`t have).

At some point it has to be there otherwise no one would get paid...

"Anyone who still likes Obama should look up the "10 Can`t Nots" of Abraham Lincoln. They were a list of principle Lincoln followed that made him a great president (and republican). They are the exact opposite of Obama`s policies."

Before we even begin, you`re clearly not as well versed in history as you like to pretend. It`s a well known fact that the "10 Cannots" are frequently misattributed to Abraham Lincoln, while infact he had been long dead by the time they were written. So it is NOT Abraham Lincolns code of ethics at all, rather someone elses who may interpreted from the actions of Abe, but there is no evidence to suggest that they were anything other than this man`s own opinions.

2.) "You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong"

But we probably can heal the sick by having everyone agree to help out with everyone else, that is called "Being a Community." Every tried to find a nice house to buy? A top consideration is always finding a "nice community." Why isn`t our entire nation a nice community? Shouldn`t we strive for that? Of course, if we do- we become anti-patriotic socialists, so until now nobody has had the nut sack to try and make America a global leader by example as opposed to explosives.

3.) "You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich."

Absolutely correct, but if we demand that the Rich man contributes to society in equal to what he recieves from society we are not destroying him. Instead we are demanding the he be a part of the community rather than exclude himself. If he has a problem with being an American, he can surely afford to GTFO, which is in fact what many do (i.e. Dual Citizenships, off shore account, fund exchanges to avoid taxes, filter corporations, etc...)

4.) "You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred."

Agreed. Not sure how Obama, or really any president of the last 50 years has (publically) opposed this notion.

I really hope you`re not just a boy crying wolf... I`ll keep reading maybe there actually is something in here that Obama actually does oppose.

6.) "You cannot help small men by tearing down big men."

This seems like the third time that the author has reiterated this point. It has become obnoxious and redundant and to repeat myself would force me to become such as well. Suffice it to say, no president in recent years has demanded this, with the exception of the enactment of Anti-Trust laws (which are ironically largely ignored in our monolithic, corporate, conglomerate dominated economy.)

7.) "You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer."

Which is exactly why we should eliminate the capital gains tax, (CONTINUED...)

we should provide tax breaks to small businesses within their first 3 years of operations and we should- But I digress. This isn;t about me. It`s bout you hating Obama without having a solid basis, or probably even knowing why. Once again this is the same point made three times previously and I will not dignify it further.

8.) "You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income."

This is "paying the bills with your paycheck instead of your savings." It is the most simple business model in the world: Income>Expense=Profits and it is a model for business that the American government has not followed many would argue since early 1900s and really taking hold in the late 70s. Now if expenses are greater than income there are only two ways to correct the model: Increase income or Reduce expense. Typically this would mean "Raise Taxes" or "Budget Cuts." (CONTINUED...)

Americans don`t like to be taxed, because they want to spend their money on all the hot new gizmos! But we don`t want to sacrifice the way we run our country, so budget cuts are typically thin and superficial. Only in the late eighities did we realize that economically we were on a path for destruction, and only in the 90s did the public at large become exposed to the flaws in our government spending formula. Suddenly bitching about our national debt is all the rage. During the the first half of the Clinton administration finances were stabilized and during the half for a portion had begun to drop. In 2008 the national debt exceeded 10 trillion dollars. Guess who was president? But as many business people will tell you, "making money requires spending money." This isn`t a universal truth but (CONTINUED...)

it is accurate in describing the before you can get a return on your investment you need to actually invest something; sweat off your back, your time, your knowledge or maybe your money. Something needs to go in for something to come out and for that reason I cannot fault Obama for spending more in an effort to make the fundamental changes and revisions that need to be made in order to control spending in the long run.

9.) "You cannot establish security on borrowed money."

This guy repeats himself alot. See #8.

10.) "You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they will not do for themselves."

The only potential correlation I can see between this and the current situation we have is the extension of unemployment, which really has little to do with Obama and therefore shouldn`t effect your opinion of him. (CONTINUED...)

"he`s as bad if not worse then bush during Katrina..."

Hurricane Katrina was well predicted. There was no move for federal aid before hand and very little afterwards; reports indicate that FEMA and the Army exacerbated the situation. Hundreds died, thousands were displaced and tens of thousands suffered. This disaster is the result of government incompetence.

The gulf oil spill was unpredictable. Besides tourism & ~30% of fishing grounds the gulf coast is largely unaffected. Laggy response because: The waters that the oil rig is on & that deep sea oil rigs are technically boats made assigning territorial responsibility difficult. BP either was unaware or lied about the volume of the incident and claimed control over the situation. They intervened once it became clear the situation was NOT under control. The spill is the result of corporate negligence and miscommunication.

There is very little comparison between the two events

A.) Not even close. Find out what socialism is, what their core ideals and policies are and compare it to what we have now, and what is proposed.

B.) There`s nothing inherently wrong with socialism, it`s in the implementation that America has previously had fundamental issues with. As a side note, socialism is not against the constitution; as long as our "democracy" stays in place (the system of representation,) the branches of government remain and there is a divide between state and federal legislation there is no violation of the constitution by implementing socialist values.

I wish everybody would do this research too. Transocean was actually two different companies before it wound up being called Transocean. The reason? Oh, but several oil spill distasters that it had caused. For example the Ixtoc Oil Spill was the result Sonat Offshore (a division fo SOnat) doing offshore oil drilling for Mexian Pemex in the late 1979-1980. The name was changed to Transocean after a buy of the Norwegian company of the same (untarnished) name. Previously they were known as "The Offshore Company." Look `em all up.

Truthfully you need a better voting system that allows more than 2 parties to run the whole show. Minority governments with mixed ideologies that have to work together can achieve a better concensus of more people.

Do you think the local gang of thugs and criminals will turn in their weapons? Absolutely not. They will go on a crime spree!

Private citizens owning guns is a deterrent against those who would do crime. You can`t say that crime would go down after a gun ban, because it has never happened. Who knows what would happen?

The republicans are UNABLE to slow down congress due to the super-majority in the senate (which they just lost due to Byrd`s death). The democrats could push anything they wanted through without even a single republican vote, but they choose to push agendas when it is politically advantageous.

"How far back does "citing sources" have to go before it isn`t needed?"

In a magazine article such as that one, there should ALWAYS be sources cited. Since there is no legit source provided, it could easily be ascertained that those numbers are false. I`m not saying I disagree with the article, because we ALL know taxes are going to go up, but I disagree with the demonizing of said tax hike.

People don`t seem to realize that taxes go to providing funding for various government movements. Without taxes, there`d be no Unemployment, no Healthcare, no clean up of the BP spill, no Disaster Relief, etc... If the taxes go up, that only means they need more to spend on things they`ve put through to try BETTER our society. Those who disagree with those methods are unable to view in a long term perspective or can`t look at the Big Picture and are fixated on themselves.

I think there`s an argument to be made that the more metaphors a movement creates, the worse a movement it is...the new "Tea Party" is a metaphor in itself, of course, whose arguments follow the pattern of something like "But x is like y!" when x 1) probably isn`t real and 2) is not much at all like y. At least most of you people are civil, though.

Even as a supporter of Obama, I don`t believe that claim. TransOcean and BP aren`t going to make enough headway and the government is going to step in and fix their mess, which is going to take tax dollars to do. Higher Tax Rates

Beginning in 2011, tax rates that were in effect prior to 2001 return. The top income tax rate goes back to 39.6 percent, and the special low 10 percent bracket is eliminated. Whether this will actually happen will be at the heart of a spirited battle in Congress during 2010.

For individuals dying after 2010, the federal estate tax returns with a $1,000,000 exemption and a 50 percent maximum rate. Congress is likely to take some action on these rules during 2010.

"Whether this will actually happen will be at the heart of a spirited battle in Congress during 2010."

"Congress is likely to take some action on these rules during 2010. "

These lines say that those tax hikes might not happen, therefore it wouldn`t be a very good source as to whether or not he taxes are definitely going to go up.

But again... Paying higher taxes is only a bad thing if the government is spending it on things that aren`t looking to help us. If we were in a good position in the country and the government turned around and said, "Well, we have a tax hike coming to bring about a surplus in the budget." THEN I`d be a bit worried because there`d be no need to further tax us when there`s nothing immediate to be spending it on.

"If the taxes go up, that only means they need more to spend on things they`ve put through to try BETTER our society. Those who disagree with those methods are unable to view in a long term perspective or can`t look at the Big Picture and are fixated on themselves."

That, or we take a look at places like CA, which have implemented many programs to "better" our society. Now they`re facing unsustainable debt and are on the verge of bankruptcy. People stand against the methods to "better" our society do so not because we can`t see the Big Picture, but precisely because we CAN see it.

Look beyond the fluff and BS the politicians put out there about all the candycanes and lollipops you`re going to get from all these programs and consider what these programs will actually wind up doing to our country before it`s too late.

I am not saying I agree with all of the programs that have been placed on the table. In fact, I can only see about a handful that I genuinely can get behind. I`m simply stating that people need to be educated about their decisions. I made my own choices as to who to vote for, and what to believe about our Government and our President. I don`t let things like the Conservative biased FOXnews and Kiplinger, or Liberal biased media garner my decisions. I do my research and I make my educated decisions. Billboards like these are from those uneducated followers. Even many Republican leaning members of IAB have looked at them and said they were retarded.

@ EmilieIsHere---- Um, taxes is only part of how they are paying for healthcare.....

The also took over all student loans

and they have no money so they are not giving out as many grants to colleges

so if you connect the dots you would see that the price of college is going up, which means that people are going to have to take out bigger students loans

Now on top of that there is no competition, so the government can raise interest on loans and there is nothing you can do about it, because now you have no other choice. So really we are making people (that already have no money in college)pay for the heathcare system.

It is retarted and makes no since.... in fact now I don`t have a choice, I am made to have some sort of healthcare. They passed the bill without reading it and now they have a crappy system that is doing nothing but harm

Incidentally, Britain has recently suffered a shooting rampage in Cumbria. The shooter legally owned his gun (a rifle, I believe).

People have been arguing that legally-armed civilians could have stopped his rampage. However, I say increasing the number of legal guns would not have been the best way to stop this rampage; reducing the number of legal guns, by at least one (the shooter`s gun), would have stopped it.

    Before it even started.

The more recent shooter, Raoul Moat, used a shotgun. I am unsure whether it was legally-owned or not. I suspect not.

"So why don`t you ban all combustable substances that may prevent bombings?"

Purchases of potential bomb-making supplies are usually monitored. That applies in your country too.

"I seem to recall some guy named Hitler banned guns and caused Germany to implode under massive totalitarian avarice along with these guys..."

Correlation =/= causation. Hitler also spoke German, and then he caused Germany to implode under massive totalitarian avarice. Therefore, speaking German causes totalitarian avarice.

In case you`re thick and didn`t get that; if banning guns was the ONLY thing Hitler did to get power, then you`d have a point. But it was not the only thing he did, by any stretch of the imagination.

Britain banned private ownership of handguns in 1997. It`s now been thirteen years. Where`s our totalitarian regime?

Sure, they may run a totalitarian government, but who has any right to say its the wrong way if its working for them? And if you want to really call Cuba `developed` it would be a stretch. Majority of the country is poor and undeveloped. Not to mention that as soon as Castro dies, Cuba will probably be turned over to a Democratic government. Plenty of countries on Earth have strict gun control laws and AREN`T falling under Totalitarian rule... Again... This is only one aspect of it. It requires far more than that. OBVIOUSLY if someone were to have an interest in ruling a country by fear, than YES, disarming the citizens would be your first priority. But on the same note, controlling the citizens` access to guns would make it harder to commit gun related crimes. And those crimes could come with a more severe punishment since not only did they commit the crime, but they owned an illegal firearm to do it. This would likely be enough to convince MOST that it wouldn`t be worth it. There will ALWAYS be those that ignore the law, but thats true with ALL laws.

I don`t need a gun to defend myself and my home. So this "Oh my god! They`re taking away my guns." crap is irrelevant to me. I have better means of defense called deadbolts, security alarms, and a metal basebal

Nothing against people who have religious beliefs, but that choice is the individuals. Which is why it should be a choice! If you don`t like it, plug your ears and cover your eyes. I will do whatever I goddamn want to with my body and it is nobodies choice but my own. End of rant.

The law is there that we can have guns, so if the killer wants to kill you, he has to say to himself "I might get killed. What if he has a gun too. I better not do this."

I don`t think any serial killer who used a gun EVER stopped to think that. That made me giggle. Thank you. :-D

Most serial killers don`t use gun, and most murderers aren`t serial killers. And most people don`t think about somebody might have a gun because there is such a stigma on owning a gun. So now more criminals (who already aren`t allowed to have guns) have guns than law abiding citizens.

Oh yes, because I`m not factoring in all those people who kill someone and never get caught. Either way, the consequences are considered, because even if they don`t catch you right away, its a good chance you`ll be found out eventually.

All I know, is that since they passed castle doctrine here in Alabama, home robberies and invasions have gone down over 80%.

For those who don`t know what that is, 31 states now have it. It designates one`s place of residence (or, in some states, any place legally occupied, such as one`s car or place of work) as a place in which one enjoys protection from illegal trespassing and violent attack. It then goes on to give a person the legal right to use deadly force to defend that place (his/her "castle"), and/or any other innocent persons legally inside it, from violent attack or an intrusion which may lead to violent attack. In a legal context, therefore, use of deadly force which actually results in death may be defended as justifiable homicide under the Castle Doctrine.

You uh... You haven`t paid too much attention to the people rotting in jail right now, have you?

That ideology doesn`t work, according to people who are anti-death penalty...

The fact is, if the guy wants to kill someone, he`s going to kill them. His thought process is either "I won`t be caught or killed, I`m too smart," or "I don`t care if I get caught or die, I want him dead."

Ever hear of the 21 Ft rule??? Anyone who has even taken the most BASIC martial arts classes learns it. As do most military. (I fall into both categories.) It states that an average person can advance 21 ft on someone holding a gun in the time it take for them to process the danger and pull the trigger.

Someone comes in my room with a gun in my hand, I already have the bat in hand because I hear the alarm or the bolt disengaging (I also have a constant cam on my front door to see who is ringing my door bell), I`ll have beat them within an inch of their lives before they even REMEMBER they HAVE a gun...

Believe me... If I here my alarm sounding, I won`t be the defender. And the odds he has his finger on the trigger ready to fire is slim unless he`s breaking in SPECIFICALLY to hurt me, which my alarm system (and cam) kinda thwarted him on. I actually had a friend try to break into my place without alerting me and he couldn`t do it. If the alarm system didn`t catch him, or the cam didn`t catch him, I was there at my bedroom door waiting to cave his skull in.

You`re not accounting for the fact that 3/4 of the American populace is a bunch of p*ssies who would hide behind their bed-sheets before actually engaging an intruder, and of the few that would...

Around 1/3 would fail horribly because they have absolutely no concept of guile or ability to get the drop on the intruder.

Another 1/3 would be like you, and actually succeed.

And the final 1/3 would be the trigger happy paranoid mother-f*ckers that end up killing their son/spouse/neighbor/etc because they (the son/spouse/etc) come home, realize they forgot their keys, and find another way to get in.

But having a gun in the house of someone who`d cower in fear and forget they had the gun wouldnt stop an intruder either.

We could all put big stickers on our front doors with a gun on it saying "Owner of the residence is armed and willing to do anything to protect their home." but if someone wants to break in, they`re gonna break in no matter what some sticker says.

That would work if all crimes, or even many crimes, were carried out by at least fairly intelligent people acting as a result of thought and reason.

Which doesn`t happen. People who commit crimes using intelligence, thought and reason very rarely commit violent crimes. If they do commit crimes, those crimes are usually indirect thefts - fraud and suchlike - or clever thefts with masses of misdirection and minimal chance of any violent conflict.

In short, your line of argument generally only applies to people who wouldn`t be doing it anyway. It`s far less useful than you`d think.

See, the second amendment was intended to give people power against a government takeover. Unfortunately, people sneak guns into schools, into churches, into malls and movie theaters. They shoot their wives in fits of rage.
The solution is simple. Obviously, you`re not gonna do much against the national guard with your little handgun, and since those are the most frequently used in crime, ban them.
People should be able to purchase assault rifles, antitank mines, mortars, etc. Because that`s what you fight an ARMY with. Not firearms. Let me see you try to sneak a mortar into your school.

No, my point was that if we don`t know enough about it to have an emergency plan (that will actually work) should something go wrong, then we shouldn`t be f*cking with it in the first place.

As for not doing deep sea oil drilling - are you going to be the person to tell the industrially developed world that their civilisation is ended and the population will have to rapidly drop, i.e. many people die? Because that`s what would happen if oil mining ends now.
No, I`m gonna be the one to tell the world that they need to CUT BACK on the excessive use of oil in the first place.

And besides that, there are plenty of other places to obtain oil. Or there would be if people didn`t f*ck up public relations with the places that have it.

And don`t try to give me any sh*t about how we "thought it would work," since this same damn thing has happened once before, and the same tactics we used this time failed to work then.

As for the idea that it`s impossible to come up with a plan that is guaranteed to work...

As true as that is, it IS possible to come up wtih a plan that

    A) Hasn`t failed multiple times in the past

and B) Has a fairly decent chance of working, with all things considered.

And you can only use "all things considered" when you know enough about the environment to actually consider all things.

In other words, STOP F*CKING WITH THINGS YOU DON`T KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT.

It`s like seeing a horde of diamonds hidden on the other end of a massive, dark tunnel in a foreign land you`ve never been to before.

Humans have a bad habit of playing with chance, and more often than not, sh*t like this is the end result.

What I`M trying to say is, don`t play with chance. Make your own damn luck by knowing all the possibilities beforehand and preparing for them.

But, obviously, common sense like this doesn`t apply when it comes to things that are valuable and can make someone tons of money.

"Yeah, go ahead, drill drill drill away. It`s not like the ocean isn`t an incredibly hostile and unpredictable environment that we don`t know enough about.
It`s not like you`re drilling in hurricane territory in the first place.
And without all those environmental possibilities, there`s absolutely NO CHANCE of a failure on the rig itself.
So obviously we don`t need to take any precautions at all against what might happen if something does fail.
And if something should fail... We`ll just do what we did last time. Not that that worked..."

Dicken: Besides tourism & ~30% of fishing grounds the gulf coast is largely unaffected.
AuburnJunky: Aside from the tens on thousands out of work due to the deep sea drilling ban.

This is unfortunately a myth. There WAS a proposed ban that was struck down by federal courts saying it was in violation of existing laws. There us a NEW proposal that works within the boundaries of the law, however it does not yet have judicial approval, and may never come to fruition. Additionally, it is a temporary plan that would only last until the 30th of November. ANother important distinction that it makes is halting offshore drilling within a certain proximity to American shore where it can cause damage to the livelihood and well-being of American people. Lastly, it is not a ban on current offshore drilling operations instead it calls for a halt on the development on new projects and and a temporary cease of all offshore drill stations for in-depth inspections and enforcement.

Dicken: My paychecks haven`t dropped, neither has my sisters, my girlfriends or my brother-in-law`s
AuburnJunky: How much do you make? Check this out. Not shown on that link, is the fact that taxes for those making UNDER $55k are going up 5%. That`s a massive increase that we were told WOULDN`T happen.

That sources you give are a bit misleading, as has been stated previously. 2 of the four mentioned make under 55k and two mentioned make over 55k.

Doing research I discovered that what the Kiplinger article is reffering to is the repeal of the Bush Tax cuts on individuals making over 250,000K annually (along with other factors.) More than 50% of the people effected by this are in the top 5% of income earners in the united states (brookings.edu/topics/tax-cuts.aspx) It is important to not that this is for INDIVIDUALS making over $250,000 anuually and not combined or family income. As a side not I couldn`t find any mention of a 5% increase for people under 55k anywh

Taylor Stone: Without taxes, there`d be no Unemployment, no Healthcare..."
AburunJunky: That`s the point. Extension of unemployment benefits has caused our jobs crisis to be extended.

It doesn`t make sense to me how extending unemployment benefits caused the jobs crisis to be extended. I just got off unemployment and I call tell you that it`s not pleasant. Most people made half of their income if not less. My Father is currently on unemployment and is receiving roughly 17% of his previous earned income. I`m sure that giving him barely enough money to be alive, and not enough to pay his bills is really holding him back from getting that next job. The percentage of people capable of living at a comfortable level on unemployment benefits is small, and even they probably want more than to be able to hit up blockbuster once a month. Claiming that extending unemployment has exacerbated the job crisis is not only NOT provable, or verifiable but it is also insensitive and i

Dicken: There`s nothing inherently wrong with socialism...
AuburnJunky: Obama and the dems are pushing social liberalism, not socialism.

Social Liberalism is a valid political view with legitimate values and ideals. Liberalism , Social Liberalism and Libertarianism should not be followed blindly; The belief that one party or one person is entirely correct and should be followed without contention is retarded. We should identify components that are compatible and ideal and use them to fortify, alter and enhance each other. Every system has ideas that we can adapt and incorporate; we do not have to subscribe to any system wholly. Dismissing schools of thought based on perception or bias is stupid. We should recognize that most political concepts are inherently neutral and only their implementation should be carry stigmas; thus, we can use all political concepts to inform and develop a new, more cohesive and superior unified ideal... this is what a republic is supposed to be

    @dick: (sorry about that)

    a) The deep rig workers are out of work NOW.
b)Taxes are going up across the board for EVERYONE. The largest increase, is for people making lass than 55k.
c)Why get another job when you are making money without doing anything? Ending benefits when they should be would motivate people to get off ass and look harder. Don`t forget about the people who have given up searching. Go work at McDonalds or Wal-Mart FCS.
    d) Who said is wasn`t a valid point of view? We should never, ever blindly follow one party. We should always keep an open mind.

Go work at McDonalds or Wal-Mart FCS.
    Easier said than done.

I`ve put in at LEAST 30 apps recently and haven`t gotten so much as a call. I`ve called a few of the places and found out they aren`t even hiring.

These INCLUDE fast food, Wal-marts, K-marts, a few chinese places, etc.

It`s damn near impossible to find a job anymore, especially considering that the places you`re thinking it must be so easy to get a job at, those starting places like McDonalds and the like, have reached a point where they`re cutting hours down for the workers they already have.

I have a friend who works at Taco Bell and he`s lucky to get 15 hours in some weeks.

Well. Here in Alabama, land of the lazy drats, lower tier jobs are a dime a dozen. Now hiring signs all over the place in fast food.

People are just content to collect unemployment with our jobless rate at 10%.

    Sad.

"a) The deep rig workers are out of work NOW."
They`re being employed in the control and cleanup efforts earning their typical wages.

"b)Taxes are going up across the board for EVERYONE. The largest increase, is for people making lass than 55k."
I could find no solid evidence on this, just anticipation and suspicions of this happening in the near future. It`s also important to note that the executive branch does not have a direct hand in taxes, his only legislative power is the threat of the veto. I can understand being butthurt at congress when/if the tax hike occurs but people want to bitch at the figure head because they forgot how our legislative system works.

"d) Who said is wasn`t a valid point of view?"
I wasn`t arguing against anything, just making a point and due to characters limits it got squished together- I get long winded, sowwy... I go off on tangents all the time.
