LJL Yes, I answered your question with a quote from Jesus. It`s a relevant parable to the question. God has his own timing, That timing is appointed by God and humans have no influence on it.

What the parable basically says is don`t uproot the wheat with the weeds, It destroys the wheat before harvest time. Wait till harvest time then sort it all out. That is God`s plan in a nutshell.

Yes he could stop all evil right now, But that would cause a lot of hurt and pain for the people and world that remains. God will sort out the evil from the good on judgment day.

That`s not a sidestep, That`s the answer. The epicureans tried to `materialize` God, But their argument fails because God is spiritual not materialistic.

The job of defeating evil has yet to come, But it is coming just not at man`s direction or timing.

CrakrJak,

Ah, yes, typical xtian tactics: first, deflection. I spoke to you using logic and you return with parables. Interesting. Next, denial. You either do not understand the Epicurian Riddle or simply can`t refute it. In either case, simply duck the logic in order to deny its validity.

"The Epicureans tried to force upon God (If God doesn’t do it now, then He can’t exist). God is not subject to man, but man to God."

Epicurus never built a temporal condition into the argument. If something doesn`t get done, either in the past, the present or the future, it simply does not get done. You are the one who put in the temporal condition. Denial by misdirection will not work, here.

I also found it interesting that a: you didn`t even attempt to refute my argument about prayer, and that b: you`ve been wearing a Dudeism avatar for as long as I`ve seen you posting in these forums. In both cases, I wonder why that is.

Anyway, the be fair there are a lot more events for the Summer Olympics!

Nevermatter though, we`re Canadian. We`ll take the teasing with good humor!

It`s definitely pretty silly! Instead of coddling these kids when they get their asses kicked Slovakian style (OH SNAP) you should take them out for pizza and let them know that as long as they had fun and tried their damnedest then that`s what the games about. They`ll keep working and get better....right?...Right?

God will destroy evil just as He has said in numerous places, but it will happen at the time appointed by God, not on the timing or desires of humanity.

LJ: Jesus himself addressed this.
Matthew 13:24–30
“The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.”

Or how about the international consensus from respected science academies that have issued joint declarations confirming anthropogenic global warming, including but not limited to Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Cameroon, the Royal Society of Canada, same of the Carribean, China, Institut de France, Ghana, Leopoldina of Germany, Indonesia, Ireland, Accademia Nazionale Delle Scienze of Italy, India, Japan, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Royal Society of New Zealand, Russian Academy of Sciences, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, Tanzania, Turkey, Uganda, The Royal Society of the United Kingdom, The National Research Council of the US (did you catch that one?), Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Sigh. How did we get from Canadian kids soccer to Global Warming? That`s IAB for ya. Anyways, to address the point...

"A few dozen" you say? You know that the IPCC report on climate change was written by 620 scientists from 40 countries, right? Well, bad example, they`re obviously a bunch of liars.

Or how about the the 92% of climatologists globally who agree that climate change is real, and man-made? No, that doesn`t work either. Halfwits, all suckling on the government teat.

"God didn`t cause the leak, He`s not going to stop it. Praying for him to do so is praying in vain and insults God."

How very convenient.

But then, as we all know, "god" answer`s prayer in one of three ways: "yes," "no" or "maybe." The same can be said of praying to a can of peaches, the old oak tree out back or grandpa`s collection of used condoms left over from WWII. The result is the same: "yes," "no" or "maybe."

Also, why pray at all? If "god" has a divine plan and he always sticks to that divine plan, who are you to change it? What if what you want isn`t part of the divine plan? Do you think he`s going to change it just for you?

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.

madest:
You believe in an invisible man in the sky that you can pray to in order to make things better.
First off, That`s a bad way to pray.

Matthew 6: 7&8 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

In other words, Don`t repeatedly pray for `things` from God, He already knows what you need before you need it.

God didn`t cause the leak, He`s not going to stop it. Praying for him to do so is praying in vain and insults God.

Let`s instead pray for the people that have been affected by the explosion and leak, And those trying to stop it and clean it up.

That`s ridiculous because any team that could win by that much, will score 4 goals and then continually trip over the ball until the end of the game. In our rugby league if it reached a points difference of 50 points, the game was ended, so in one half when we went 45 points up, our coach told us to drop the ball, or knock it on whenever we got up to their 10 yard line. We smashed them for the entire game, and won 48-0.

davymid: nah, that`s just natural selection. a parent who somehow manages to kill his own kid is a retard. his genes won`t reproduce. that`s how it is in nature, retard genes get out of the gene pool, the rest stays in. but the laws help more and more retards stay alive and thus the government has to make more and more stupid laws that help them stay alive, because it`s gone too far and you apparently can`t let 100 million people kill themselves.

oh, and totally OT: neither you, CrakrJak nor me have any sufficient data about global temperatures. the only thing we know is that some guys who`s livelihood, fame, and credit depend solely on the existence of global warming (i.e. IPCC) tell us that global warming exists.

I know there`s always the individual exception, you`re obviously an intelligent guy. But there comes a point where people have to be told what`s good for them.

In other news, I think this Candadian initiative is retarded. Teaching kids to handle success is the easiest job in the world. Teaching them how to handle failures is hard. It happens, kids. I myself had many failures in my life, and now I`m in a good place.

Let`s nurture our kids, but let`s also equip them with the life tools to deal with it when they fail.

Here`s my take on it. F*ck this *nanny state* bullsh*t, there are many irresponsible parent out there who would happily stick their 1-year old child crawling unfettered about the back seat while dad hurtles down the freeway at 75mph. What if an accident happens? Might not be your fault, but try telling that to your kid with his prosthetic legs.

As an Adult, you have the choice whether to wear a seatbelt or not. Your limbs, your mobility, you do your thing. But for a child, he or she has no such choice. That child is relying on its parents to decide what is best for them. Hell, they probably don`t want to go to school. But at a certain point you have to say "This is how this is going to work. Get in your seat kid, and strap in.".

Crakr, I`m doing my damndest not to be insulting, I really am. I asked you before if you were a parent of a child and you refused to answer, which is your prerogative, and fair enough. You don`t have to answer my questions any more than I am forced to answer yours, and that`s all healthy in my opinion. I have no idea if you have children. I suspect you do not, but feel free to counter.

@crakrjak and davymid:

Carseats are a good thing. I use them, not because it is law, but because it is safe.

It`s about the same as seatbelt laws. I shouldn`t be forced to do something that should be common sense. If you are stupid enough to NOT do the right thing, and click it, then natural selection will weed you out.

If you are stupid enough to let your kid lay in the rear dash (like I did back in the 70`s when I was little lol) and he gets mashed, then live with the scar in your soul, and blow your head off. You were an idiot anyway.

I don`t feel like using my tax dollars to implement programs to tell idiots to do something they should do out of instinct.

The scoring system really isn`t the problem here. It`s the actions of the parents which are indirectly teaching kids that they are "entitled" to something even though they didn`t earn it. "Hey, are you losing by more than 5 points? Well, that means you win now!"

Life is inherently a competition. If you don`t realize it sooner, you`re going to be in a world of hurt later.

Yeah, I was just teasing CrakrJak. Where I came up, we had actual steel lawn darts, bee-bee guns and there was one set of brothers that had taken apart a chainsaw, gotten some welding and turned a Schwinn Lemon Peeler into a gas powered bike.

What he was talking about seemed start about 1976 so.
A mother, I think from Detroit, with a toddler and an infant bought a toy that went with the show "Johnny Socko and His Giant Robot" which had spring-loaded projectiles (first gen red plastic and second gen, yellow, I had one of each.)
She left the two kids to play "attacking giant baby monster" coming back to an infant that had choked on a finger missile.

Instead of being jailed for negligence in having purchased a toy that was marked "7 and up," she successfully sued Toys-R-Us then, went on a crusade for safer toys.

CarJack, I take it that you remember a time when kids had Jarts...

You have to realize that the time of Jarts replaced a time when it was perfectly normal for a 12-year-old to receive a .22 for Christmas or birthday
which replaced a time when a person could have a marriage and family at 14
which replaced a time when a person might work in a coal mine at 11.

About the subject, seems to me that it`s a matter of finding a balance for even matches. As tough as it is to score in soccer, if a team scores more than 2 runaway games, I think they should be temp-shifted from one class to the next and if a team that was previously up-shifted is shutout consecutively, they should be shifted back.

Seems a little overzealous to prevent kids from playing at their peak.

It`s also more insulting and damaging to the losing team. It`s better to honestly lose badly than to be overtly patronised by having the better team stupidly handicapped and still better than your bunch of useless bumblers. It`s like playing against someone who beats you with their hands in their pockets and one eye closed, just to rub it in how much better than you they are.

Yeah. The right to belittle or insult an organisation is a given right.

I can`t say I object to the rule on the whole, however. After 5 points up, the game is all but decided. Why play after that? Maybe the five point limit keeps the hope alive to turn the game around?

Not sure if automatic loss is the way to go; perhaps a five point lead limitation, meaning goals that would push over five are not counted.

Way to prepare kids for the real world. Because as an adult if I am extremely successful, I`m an abject loser by default right?

Points? Well since the team gets three points for a win, it`s impossible to get more than that.
Or do they mean GOALS?
Numpties.

(And yeah, basically this would then resolve as people own-goaling to win).

Actually, one of the alternatives suggested sounded pretty cool.

How about every time you score a goal, you lose a player. That way no matter your skill level, you`re always in a challenge.

You can score 11 goals? Great, try playing with just a goalie now.

Obviously not for international games, but awesome for training.

You know, if I was a coach, and my team was good, I`d say drat that stupid rule and tell my team to score however many points they want.

Whomever starts with the ball takes it back and scores in their own goal 6 times to win the game.

so the U.S. isn`t the only nation full of STUPID people!

Let`s not bother teaching children that sometimes you lose and how to deal with it. Or using a loss to motivate them into trying harder.

Instead, let`s create a loop-hole so he wins when he really sucked badly!
